Realized that we have not yet created an actual thread for Jon Hopkins.

Anyone listened to Singularity yet? I'm a bad boy and got a leaked copy. I'm still going to buy it, for anyone interested in my moral standing.

I was absolutely blown away.

I'll post some more reactions to it later in case anyone hasn't yet listened, but I tried to temper my expectations beforehand, with little success. And yet despite my failure to temper my expectations, they were nonetheless met. Exceeded, even.

We talked about it a little already but yeah, I also listened to the leak and loved it.
Need to head back in for another listen but I definitely loved how immediate it sounded. And super impressive as well. Such an interesting way of putting sounds together. Yum yummy yum yum.

Lauren is joined in the 6 Music Live Room by the electronic musician, producer and Ivor Novello-nominated film composer Jon Hopkins, who releases his new album on Friday.

Titled Singularity, it's Jon's first solo effort since 2013's Immunity (though he has been otherwise engaged, collaborating with the likes of Brian Eno and King Creosote).

The album has been shaped by his experiences with meditation and trance states, flowing from techno to transcendent choral music, and from solo acoustic piano to psychedelic ambient.

The album will begin and end on the same note - from "the opening note of foreboding to the final sound of acceptance" - and is intended to be listened to in one sitting, as a complete body of work.

Lauren also has this week's Memory Tapes, a celebration of a listener's favourite playlist. There's more new music for the Just Added playlist and we pause for another Headphones Moment

I've listened to this album probably 20 times through at this point.

This has become one of my favorite album of all times--I listen through the entire thing from start to finish; I'm excited to listen to it from start to finish; and it's honestly getting *better* with each listen.

Emerald Rush is one of the best tracks I've ever heard produced, ever.

Amazing energy flowing through the entire album in general. This is a great year for electronic music.
