I was reading that Yuma acts will be covered on weekend 2, so stuff like Groove Armada and Royksopp can be caught next weekend. If you want to see something in Sonora watch it NOW, because it wont be available next weekend. 

And on the DJ front, I did catch a little of Tiga before I went to bed the other night. He's still really good!

I mean, I really love that ambient music, tbh, but that just sucks. 25 minutes is real bad. They didn't even clean that up in the replays.

Just going through some streams. Then this Yousuke Yuk1matsu comes up. Pretty eclectic mix of all sorts of styles but mainly (cheesy) technoy stuff... Wasn't that interested and skipped thru the set... Then he plays Sigur Rós' Ara Batur...  What? What's going on? And almost in full length?! And the crowd cheers. That was unexpected as f*ck.

I've just been reading up on The Rapture. Should I be boycotting their performance right now? Sounds like performing with Jenner wasn't the most pleasant experience. And I had no idea Matty Safer wasn't a founding member. Weirdly his name is the only one I know from the band.

I do absolutely love the bassist's t shirt. The word "sorry" written in the Korn font. Bloody brilliant.

Nine Inch Noize...  I liked the music and I can live with the fake LIVE vocals, but I hated the ridiculous over the top stage production.  Way too much for my liking. They took a bleak and demented style of music and turned it into a sleek and sterile freak show?

Ha. Thanks! Even though it came out of nowhere, I really like his intention of exposing his audience to this wild mix of styles and bands who most of them probably had never heard of. A great way to expand the musical palette. I gotta respect that.

I didn't think Enya would be cool enough for Diplo, but I guess he respects the production side of her work.
Also she was once sampled bigly by The Fugees, so maybe that makes her cool?

The YouTube algo wanted me to watch this video. OK it starts out going for easy prey: "influencers", but it actually gets better once it dives into the price of everything. What did that guy pay $10k for???

I can't imagine forking out $$$ for a festival where the headliners are Justin Beiber and Sabrina Carpenter. As for Karol G, I just had to google her and I'm thinking: nope.
I'll probably never go to Coachella but the point about prices reflects other festivals and gigs too, I think. I yearn for the days when more people bought records and less people went to live shows. It used to be cheaper and easier to go. And maybe the FOMO angle is partly social media's fault.

YouTube then offered me another video on the subject which further delves into the jump from Pearl Jam and their anti-corporate stance to ...whatever Coachella is now.

FOMO for an event that is streamed live on the Internet is kinda crazy to me. My buddy and I watched Sabrina's Week 2 set together from the comfort of our perspective couches and we felt very much a part of the event.

I will remember watching TOMORA week 1 for a long time too. All I missed out on was sticky heat, more people than I'm comfortable being around, and spending the $$$ you mentioned!

Might be kinda sad, but it was more Fun On My Own.

Coachella is worthy of all its criticism and worthy of all of its praise.

It was once a really great music festival, it's now different. If you're a Coachella veteran from the past, you can still see the spirit of the original festival lives on, albeit, to a much smaller degree.

I suffer from migraines, I easily get overheated, I still went multiple times, and would still go again if it weren't so expensive.

The main Coachella fest negatives in my mind, apart from price, is the capacity has only gotten larger since I've been there in 2013, and the motivation of the crowd has drastically changed. Furthermore, I would not be happy around all the influencers.

Beating up on the lineup in terms of quality, seems silly to me now. YES, the headliners suck it's gone Pop. And there's certainly been some down lineups over the years... But there's definitely a path for music minded folk at this festival. You got to be open to different genres, and go with the flow. Obviously, don't go if nothing whets your appetite from the get-go, just don't assume your gonna hate everything you might not fully be invested in.

What maybe doesn't translate to everyone, is the location is one-of-kind. It's a beautiful atmosphere, the weather is almost always perfect, and nowhere else will you experience: flat, lush, manicured, green grass, at a large scale music festival.

This is the type of Coachella I remember:

The first three years I went, I never spent over $1000 for the whole weekend/trip. As a matter of fact, I never spent $1000, and I came home with a whole bunch of merchandise. It used to be feasible and very much worth it.

Was happy to experience when I did, thankful for people on this forum detailing their experience back in 2005. I would have probably never taken the chance if you didn't open my eyes to it.



By the way, I happened to catch the Groove Armada, Royksopp, and Fatboy Slim (WKD 1) streamed sets. They all at one point played Radiohead's "Everything in Its Right Place"
