They updated In A Minute to include the synth that was missing from the release version (ca. from 3:30 onwards):

The digital version of the song, which you can buy from Beatport, was also updated. Can't check on any Streaming services because I don't use them.

Much appreciated!

Now, make it longer and reprise the vocal theme like in the live version! Honestly, why didn't they do that for the studio version and rather cut it short? That melody is just too good to only have it during the break.

Not updated on Spotify (yet?) sadly

Updated on YouTube music.

Boy. What a strange time we live in that an album can just be hotfixed like that. Guess I'm glad I have the vinyl and CD for the... original version??

What if you liked a version of song pre-update? Shit out of luck if you want to stream it?

I've listened to @Stefan 's YouTube post and I've listened to Spotify which @Ben_j says hasn't been updated, and I'm struggling to hear the difference. Can someone describe the added synth please?

At 3:36, that live melody comes in in Stefan's YT link.

This here was the "original" one

- although. as has been stated by Aurora, it's actually not because they "forgot" to put it in for the album ::tcat

CDs and Vinyls now will be worth more, like a misprint of stamps or coins  ;D

In my music collection I've now changed the album version to the updated song and made a separate entry for the Missing Synth Version.

Really not sure how I feel about this. I've been curious about the possibility of it happening but always kind of hoped that once something was released it would remain kind of sacred. I guess that is/was kind of naive.

It's 237!  That's also the best number because it would make you the Turbo Nutter of the deluxe owners

Ah Ok, it seems Spotify was already updated (for my region anyway), and I had got so used to the live version that I had forgotten what it sounded like before.
Now if we could just have the same thing for the additional top line synthy stuff on I Drink The Light (Manchester, Live) I would be very happy.

Also, one day when Tom retires and throws all his demos etc on to the internet for free, I look forward to getting the penultimate version of C.H.E.M.I.C.A.L which had a hook/riff that didn't make it to the final cut.
IT'S MORNING TIME!

So I guess folks with a physical copy are the only ones who will have the true "original" mix as it was upon release, hey?

Like Wolkenkrabber I have listened to the live version quite a few more times so when I listened on Spotify today it didn't occur to me that it was updated. I'll have to get the LP out tonight to A/B/C the Coachella, streaming and physical copy versions.

Remind me where she said this? I wasn't doing too well keeping up with all the press leading up to the release.

Even though Aurora makes it seem like it was the Thing that was missing a synth, I believe she actually means In A Minute instead. Because she mentions its synth lead, and I don't remember any such synth in the live version of The Thing. And now we get the updated version for IAM.

Yes, please! Or any of the live versions. I wonder why Tom shied away from including those kind of live vibes for the album.
Perhaps it's this egg-hen-phenomenon that's making me a bit biased towards the live ones. If I may have listened to the album first, these live versions may just have felt like the "usual" improvements. But now that I had watched the videos first instead and then listened to the album, it felt a bit like the spice was take out at places. Nothing huge, but noticeable, something like "Ahh, that's not in there - why?".

Thanks! Tom actually corrects her quickly when he says "Oh In A Minute", so you're right that she mixed them up. Towards the end of the clip they both talk about re-releasing the track and Tom says something about maybe a live version coming out, and that is what I really wish they would have done.

As I said before, I feel like it should have been kept "as-is" online once released. Although I hadn't encountered it before, I did assume that it is possible for artists to augment digital releases after the fact, but don't at all agree with it in practice. As a fan, I thought it was pretty special to have this extra bit in the live show and for super fans like us who have cool internet forum friends to share the recordings with. I really believe they should have released "In A Minute (Live Edit)" or something as a follow up single and kept the album version as is, even if it turns out that's not what they originally intended. Imagine this new version being a 12" Extended Mix with a physical / digital release!

I believe that this disconnect between the physical and streaming versions will negatively affect fans'  listening experience. I know I'll listen on Spotify more than the LP purely out of convenience, and when I do pull out the LP I'm afraid I won't be able to get past the missing synth even though I still truly love the "original" mix as is.

Sorry for the ramble!

Yeah, perhaps it would have been nice if they had kept the originally released version and simply added the "new", originally intended one rather than sneaking the missing part in like that. But then again, I can relate to the idea of wanting to get the "right" version out if you slightly "messed up" the release by forgetting a crucial part of your track :) I can almost see Tom slapping his forehead asking himself "why did I forget this?!" after Aurora brought it up :D.
But I totally agree with you and Enjoyed in general on this new possibility of having songs clandestinely altered. That's the bane of the digital era of music, I suppose. You never know if that what you fell in love with might still be there in the future - even if it's technically still there. The spectre of the original Star Wars movie releases says hello.

I wouldn't go that far, imo. There's so much more going on live. This "simple" addition does not really take away any excitement in the live experience - at least for me.
