There is an old MTV interview someone dragged up couple of years ago where they asked Tom & Ed's feelings about the success of Cake's cover of "I Will Survive". And I recall Tom being very gatekeeper-ish towards the roots of that legendary Gloria Gaynor disco track. Essentially saying their cover besmirches the essence of the original. Oh, tom...

If I were to guess he's probably moved off of that opinion, but funny it exists. We all have some bad takes once and a while, and Cake is pretty great band in its own right.

I'll always will have a soft spot for "Long Shirt/Short Jacket" they mention my first car (and exact color)...
