I think so.
Track sounds promising.
The teaser sounds like the song will be a heavily Chems-flavoured upbeat pop track, which we all need in these times.
@Wolkenkrabber: there was a lot of tracking crap in the url, I deleted a bit too much. It should work now.

Not sure about the 35sec we hear so far, need to listen to the full song.
So that means no "single" with b-side for Live Again and no more remixes for LA?
Love how cheerful it sounds.
Still surprised that we didn't get the Dreaming as the single tho.
My bet for the one more single is either Dreaming, or Goodbye
so from what I hear, Halo Maud and Beck both are singing the chorus of the song (and maybe a falsetto from Tom?). I need to hear more to get a sense how I feel about the track, but it does sound radio friendly.
Hope this turns out good, I can see Chems (or just Tom) returning the favor and help Beck produce something in the future.
Not really feeling that snippet... It feels more and more like this album is going to be a Born in the Echoes 2.0

Have you even listened to no reason, live again, feels like I'm dreaming?!! It's a pure rave album and skipping like a stone sounds like the sprinkling of psychedelia the album needs...
I will say the snippet comes in at a strange place in the song which makes it a bit abrupt.
I still think this could be the best album since Further.
Quote from: Ben_j on Aug 16, 2023, 06:20Not really feeling that snippet... It feels more and more like this album is going to be a Born in the Echoes 2.0
This is probably just an awkward snippet but it sounds more lively than a lot of the echoes stuff, granted I would say it could be heavier on bass and kick who knows how the rest of the song will sound
the released songs and teased songs we've heard in the live show genuinely say otherwise about this being another echoes
Ah man, such a teeeeeaaaaser! It does have me wondering where in the song that snippet takes place. Like where is the build up to that point, what comes after. Such a tease. But I like the upbeat, trippy feel of this song and am looking forward to the full reveal! Soon!
I'm not so sure this will be Born In The Echoes 2 or repeat of a previous work. No two Chemical Brothers albums are alike, I don't think. :) We shall see (hear)!
The snippet cuts in such moment that you just want to hear what's next, especially hearing that glimpse of intensified beat

So a little less of a wait...
Personally, I'm really excited! Beck's 'Odelay' was my first cd album, I see Beck at the end of the month, and Chems about to release a second track with Beck.
I'm ready to skip like a stone. Let's go!
Monday is much better! I don't like to do 'snippets' so I'm eager to get stuck into the whole thing.

Not so rare thing, genius use to do that all the time when the tracklist is avalible
Edit: moved video to 1st post.
Wow, the snippet prepared me for a lot of fun things, but "It Doesn't Matter"-level bass frequencies was not one of them. This track really pops off when it pops off!
Wow! I f**king love this. That bit around 2.15 where it takes off again is 👌👌👌. Really cannot wait for this album now.🤖
So there are two versions up on youtube, Csar posted the shorter one (4:01). The other is around 40 seconds longer (4:43), but not described as extended version =>

Not really feeling it. I hope it's the low point of the album 😬
It starts off a little light...but then really gets into its flow. The synthy stabs towards the end are beautiful.
I think this album is going to be a listen straight through album like further, where every track is a different part of the journey.
First impressions has left me feeling cold.
Another cheerful dopamine banger, the bass drop was a massive jaw dropper for me.
Im definitely feeling this. Yes, I got my Beck bias, but this is a really interesting tune to my ears. Love the shifting sounds!
Between 'Live Again', 'Skipping Like A Stone' and "The Darkness That You Fear', there feels like a strong attempt to put color into sound. The vibrant artwork that has been promoted with this album, really matches up in my mind.
Another Banger from the Bros & Beck
My prediction: this will make it into the live set
The beginning is probably a seque from the previous track?
Honestly, I was unsure with the 30 second snippet, but I think this one delivered. I can at least say I prefer it over Live Again. The snippet definitely felt a little lacking, especially in the bass area, but as many have pointed out, I'm SUPER glad more bass came in later! It was already vibey and bouncy, but the bouncing bass a la "It Doesn't Matter" (one of my fav tracks) makes it just that much better. Might be a playlist contender, I'll have to give it more listens!
The lyrics are quite addictive and beautiful, and well sung by Beck and Halo Maud (she has backing vocals on this, right? Pretty sure that's her near the end). I especially love the moments at 2:10 and 3:45 that have those more unconventional and acid-y sounds that gives this song the Chemical feel.
Also, according to the newsletter email, there's a video coming soon as well!(about:invalid)
Excited to see what they do with this track.
Also, I think this would be awesome for the live set! Maybe an act 1 closer? We'll see!

I have a request for Team Chembase. When a new single/remix/album is dropped (or news relating to it), could we consider

Becks vocal starting "When you feel like nothing really matters" is at 0:36 on the short version and at 1:06 on the longer version. So 30 seconds of the time difference is in the intro. I don't think the longer intro is part of the previous track. I think the longer version is simply the album version (we know that's the correct timing), and the shorter version is the single.
Quote from: sneakerbeater on Aug 21, 2023, 17:10First impressions has left me feeling cold.
My first impression of Wide Open left me cold, or at least underwhelmed. Now I think it's one of the best proper songs ever released under the Chemical name. Admittedly part of the reason for my cool reception to Wide Open was the radio/EDM production, and that version remains my least favourite. The remixes and live version really helped bring me around. I think this one will be a grower too.
Quote from: 𝒥𝑅𝒮𝒵 on Aug 21, 2023, 17:27Another cheerful dopamine banger, the bass drop was a massive jaw dropper for me.
It's less melancholy than Wide Open. Would make a good "coasting along"/driving tune. And I would actually like an even bigger and longer version than the album version.
Quote from: Bosco on Aug 21, 2023, 17:42Between 'Live Again', 'Skipping Like A Stone' and "The Darkness That You Fear', there feels like a strong attempt to put color into sound. The vibrant artwork that has been promoted with this album, really matches up in my mind.
Bosco getting deep and arty. And why not! I imagine the artwork was chosen for a reason. If you're getting some synergy between colour and sound then maybe the desired effect is seeping through.
Using the longer version of the track, some more specific thoughts on the track:
The opening choral sound at the start is reminiscent of Krafwerk's Uranium for me, (or Blue Monday which sampled it, if you prefer).
The opening synth drum sound also reminds me of something. A sped up version of the Trans Europe Express rhythm maybe? A hint of Schoolly D's What Does It Mean, maybe?
The bit at 3:46 is very reminiscent of TDTYF - the descending percussion sounds at around 2:15 on the long version (https://tinyurl.com/yk2kt8fb).
Beck's opening vox from 0:03 to about 0:20 remind me of Animal Collective, Beach Boys and um, Beck himself!
The high pitched choral vox (0:23) have me thinking of the female vox in The Stones' You Can't Always Get What You Want (album version around 6:50). But not in a directly borrowed/sampled way.
Agree that the bass that kicks in circa 2:15 is great.
Listening now for the 7th or 8th time my head is swaying from side to side like a toddler in a high chair or something. I'm not 100% sure about the overall structure of the track, but there's definitely something here that's worthwhile.
I don't see an extended version on Soundcloud or Beatport yet, but we know there will be one since it comes as an extra track on the USB stick. Perhaps it will come with a remix in the near future as Live Again did on streaming services?
Quote from: Wolkenkrabber on Aug 21, 2023, 20:13Listening now for the 7th or 8th time my head is swaying from side to side like a toddler in a high chair or something.
I think that's a lot of what this track is about! With the pulsing synths and dreamy backing vocals, this is a very bouncy and sway-y track and I quite like that. Have the Chems done it better in the past? Sure, but there is something very much of value here.
It's a banger! I need a 10 min extended version. Btw, another Kraftwerk sample? the beginning sounds like Uranium.
Quote from: nekoland on Aug 21, 2023, 20:33It's a banger! I need a 10 min extended version. Btw, another Kraftwerk sample? the beginning sounds like Uranium.
That's what I said above! I don't think it's a direct sample though. Inspiration.
I really really really REALLY really needed to hear this today. And didn't get a chance to until just now and I'm in deep 3 listens so far. Listens are still evolving (there is so much going on to discover in this track!) but I'm here reading
@Wolkenkrabber and am like, yess! YES! This is definitely the way more cheerful of the two Beck collabs. It is interesting to compare the two. Wide Open didn't leave me cold but it didn't leave me floored as the album closer - hearing it live did beautiful things to my brain. But it is a bit longing and melancholic i whereas Skipping Like A Stone feels like the sunny-side-up opposite. I know I sound cheesy but it's like a shot of happiness, like sunshine on my face. The song is so vivid, it sounds (feels) like it's bursting with color. I think I kinda love it already. <3

Quote"Skipping Like a Stone" is featured today on Apple Music's New Music Daily, and The Zane Lowe Show will air an exclusive interview tomorrow, August 22, at 9am PT.
QuoteThe video for "Skipping Like A Stone," to be released soon, is directed by New York based directors Pensacola and features a rare appearance from the world's greatest stone skipper, Kurt Steiner.
QuoteThe Chemical Brothers also recently announced details of a career-spanning retrospective book. Paused in Cosmic Reflection is due for publication by White Rabbit on October 26. The book is made up of new interviews with the band as well as many of their friends and collaborators from the past three decades, including Noel Gallagher, Aurora, Wayne Coyne, Beth Orton, Michel Gondry, and many more.
Beck reflected on the band in the book, writing, "The Chemical Brothers have a great predilection for exploration. Their records always seem to take you to different places. They kind of sit in an unusual place between different eras of electronic music and DJ culture. It's like they have one foot in multiple decades at the same time in a way that is utterly unique among their peers. They are rare in that they are always making stuff year in year out and amassing such a rich and impressive body of work."
Hmmm.
I wonder if we'll get an instrumental of this.
These might be my least favourite Chems lyrics ever. "I'm dancing in the center of love" - I'm not, sadly.
I've always appreciated Becks approach to lyric writing; much more about the sound of the words than the meaning. And even with Wide Open, there is a story behind the lyrics but it's not spoon fed to you. This just ain't it for me.
I will give it some more listens as there's always interesting new things to hear each go around (I do enjoy the ending from 3:15) but I'm currently with BenJ on this one. Hoping this is the 'Taste of Honey' of the album.

So the extended mix isn't just longer, it has additional "dancier" production - that bass-y synth sound that squelches along. Nice.
The extended mix is much MUCH better than the single/album versions. The weird "voice-like" synth that I hate is really toned down
Aw man, that extended mix sounds so much richer than the shorter versions. Feel a bit short changed unless the album version is somehow different to what we've already heard.

A hundred %. They could play it back to back/mixed with Wide Open and they wouldn't need to pitch shift anything.
It already sounds pretty great smashed together in Traktor!
My fantasy booking for live "Skipping": pull a "Hey Boy Hey Girl"/"The Test" or "Got Glint"/"Catch Me I'm Falling", with it coming after a revived "It Doesn't Matter" and carrying over a bunch of percussion/sound effects (eg the "No Time Or Space" sample, or the noise that comes in each time before the third beat) like those previous examples. Maybe as an encore thing.
They really should start uploading extendeds on streamings too...
Edit: Ok, I've heard it and it's not only simple extended, it's basically a "club mix" of the song, a bit different, more dj friendly cut.
Hope some songs will get a simillar treatment.
I'm glad that I've picked that usb edition too, mostly as interesting musical gimmick, right now let's hope they put the 24bit flacs, or something like that on it, or various formats, would be cool with usb .

- Tom loves Santa Barbara Bowl ("every week!", "residency!"), would love to bring show back to America, East Coast and "that bit in the middle"
Throughout the interview Zane is frequently reminiscing, complimenting, and very grateful for having him as part of their past "Down Under" journeys.
Duuuuuuude
@Bosco I'm dying over here with that last bullet point, haha! Yes bring it back to America (and I know it would be impossible and all for all kinds of reasons) but a residency at Santa Barbara Bowl would be all kinds of fucking amazing.
And back to Skipping Like A Stone. The extended mix is so, so good!
WHAT THERE REALLY IS AN EXTENDED MIX OF 7:15 I THOUGHT THAT WAS A JOKE I THOUGHT THE 4:43 VERSION WAS THE EXTENDED MIX
Can't wait to listen to it when I get home from office today.
It's funny, I definitely thought listening to the song that Tom could've done it (as Becks vocals are lighter on this than many of his songs, and more I. The register of Tom's). I really am enjoying this song. The Halo vocals add an awesome touch to it too. I think the heavy drums/bass will make it a good live track. ✨✨✨🪨
I'm all for a Santa Barbara residency too. That was a really awesome venue.
Interesting that both "Wide Open" and "Skipping Like A Stone" began life with Tom Rowlands guide vocals (some of which apparently made it to the final release, in the latter case). Possible that Beck is Tom's idea of "me if I was a good singer"?
Quote from: Bosco on Aug 23, 2023, 03:09there's an early demo version w/Tom on vocals that will never see the light of day.

Extended mix is also on their Bandcamp:
https://thechemicalbrothers.bandcamp.com/album/skipping-like-a-stone-feat-beck
Ok but that Extended Mix though :music :music
That's the build-up we deserve
When the album is out I'm gonna make my own version with all the extended version. Hopefully they'll also blend if the songs are mixed.
Listened on Bandcamp, the extended makes the album version sound like a radio edit.
I like the extended mix a lot more, but I can get why it was shortened, as albums can have a certain cadence to with track lengths depending on its direction/structure (yes, yes, Escape Velocity excluded) and having an unusually long song mid-album might throw that off that pace.
With that being said, the extended version of this would sound awesome as an ending track for the album, where a song like this could take its time as a cathartic ending (think TPPR). The Pitchfork review of BITE made mention of how Radiate should've been the last track the album, and I kind of agree (move Wide Open to after Just Bang?), and think the emotional vibe of this song for the same reason would make a good ending.
But then again, I haven't heard the actual ending track yet, so maybe Biff doesn't know what he's talking about... ʅ(´◔౪◔)ʃ
I actually think the radio edit is plenty good. That's not to say I don't enjoy the longer versions more, but I honestly think the magic of the song is captured in the edit.
I hate to put a cynical spin to this, but my guess to why there is a push for the release of the shorten versions (radio edit and album version) is because of the return on royalties for streams is much greater than an extended mix at 7:14. I don't know if artists get payed out for fractional play-throughs, so I would imagine a shorter condensed track with complete repeated plays, nets more than one long track that's nearly double the length.

My GOODNESS, that would incredible! Me and some others expected a revived "It Doesn't Matter" after they played it in full in the 2022 DJ sets, but it has yet to happen (Saturate did come back though, urgh.) With the removal of Under The Influence, Hoops/EML Ritual/Free Yourself, and Out Of Control/Do It Again, the second act is severely lacking in the dark, rave-ey energy that those tracks brought to it in previous setlists which I adored. It Doesn't Matter could bring that energy back (though they should also bring back all of those tracks they dumped and leave Saturate out of it) while bringing back a beloved and absolutely incredible thumping track.
It hasn't had it's own full segment since... ever? I'd say it was used more as an interlude in 1997, and past that point it was mostly mashed up with Under The Influence, right? That's an amazing mashup, and I love both tracks, but It Doesn't Matter would absolutely shine on its own. That, paired with Skipping Like A Stone would be INCREDIBLE - especially since, as many have mentioned, the two tracks share a similar (albeit lighter) thumping bass.
And them being in the encore would be amazing as well, as, beautiful as Snow/S2A and the Reel are, it's not as fun or unique as previous encores. I'd love more unique tracks in the encore that are more dark or fast. Flashback was incredible, Das Spiegel was an amazing encore track, Got Glint was amazing as well. Imagine Work Energy Principle in the encore. That would be incredible. I wonder, will Skipping Like A Stone be added to the main set or the encore? And if the encore, which song, if any, will be added to the main set? I'm curious to see. Anyway, this isn't the live shows thread, so excuse my side tangent.

Hm, interesting thought, that is absolutely a possibility. Curse streaming services for making Chems records shorter! I need an album over an hour! Although, I'd rather have more shorter tracks than fewer longer tracks (Looking at you, Further). The variety is appreciated. The more tracks, the more excitement, for me at least!

I think you're on to something. I believe streaming platforms pay out at 30 seconds of playback, and that is absolutely encouraging people to release shorter recordings.
a 7 min song isn't less likely to get a payout, but there is an opportunity cost to it. if someone listens to a 7 min song that's one listen. instead that same time could be used to listen to two and a bit 3 min songs and get three listens.

Getting stuck in again! Well it's certainly no secret that streaming has 'made' artists cut the length of their intros in order to hook people in, and yes cut the overall length of tracks too. But if that was part of the Chemical plan here, I would have expected a 3 minute edit TBH.
Right back as far as the 1980's it was perfectly normal for there to be an album version, a single (7") edit, and a 12" (extended) version. So this release doesn't really strike me as odd or cynical. Or at least no more so than 40 years ago.
The only thing that is a bit weird is that they put out the album version already. Why not make us wait for the album release to hear that, and just release the single as an edit and an extended version?
PS I wonder if we'll get "external" remixes? Perhaps at the same time as the video release? Or the album release?
I'm surprised they didn't release this track a week before the album as a sort of "hype" thing. It's surely too late to release another one before 8th September?

If there was going to be a big name, great remix of Skipping, I'd
guess hope it's planned for the week before/week of the release.
Again. Woozy synths and Beck vocals would sound just terrific with a touch of DJ Koze...
I'm not going to get too ruffled by the extended version vs the album. I am confident the album as it will be presented on release day will be the way the Chems want us to hear it. :) The album version is wonderful, and the extended version is extra wonderful (and for me the preferable version). I've been playing it again and again throughout today and it's just so gorgeous!
Here I go comparing again. The different versions remind me of the album version of Wide Open, and the By The Light Of The Moon Mix. Both versions are beautiful solid listens but for me, the extra that is the By The Light Of The Moon Mix... that swimmy dreamy version has my whole heart.
Quote from: Wolkenkrabber on Aug 23, 2023, 20:51Why not make us wait for the album release to hear that, and just release the single as an edit and an extended version?
imagine what that would do to us here on the message board.
The Beatsource page for the extended version has been removed for some reason. Are they a legit company?
Quote from: Wolkenkrabber on Aug 23, 2023, 20:51BeatSource also has it listed as 89BPM. Maybe Universal sent out some bum info. It's about 128 isn't it?
Quote from: Ford on Aug 24, 2023, 07:12The Beatsource page for the extended version has been removed for some reason. Are they a legit company?
Well both Beatport and Beatsource have now updated the BPMs to 128 (yay, I was bang-on).
They have however, also
both wiped the Extended Mix. No longer available. But it IS still on the Bandcamp site ATM. If they (Universal?) "fixed" the BPM, maybe they also "fixed" the availablilty of the extended mix (it wasn't meant to be out yet?), but forgot about Bandcamp (?).
Incidentally Beatport & Beatsource both list the original mix as being in C Major and the Edit as being in F Major. What's that about?
Might be AI deciding the what key it's in. The choir on the extended mix might be causing the difference.
128 BPM has been a common tempo for the Chems, so it might give clue to where it would be in a live set. Same tempo as Star Guitar and (IIRC) Hey Boy Hey Girl. 🤔
Late to the party here. Track is now buzzing on loop in my mind. Agree with enjoyed's sentiment on Koze style vibes (as I am currently listening by to the koze remix of whomadewho). Feeling this more than Live Again.
Am seeing this as part of the SG/Swoon run in live. That or paired with the new Setting Sun...even with Sun being referenced in the choir line of Skipping.

From my limited experience, these sites that have automated info like this rarely gets it right. I was surprised seeing it for more obscure Chems tracks, and tested it, and found it was often wrong. Not sure why they put that information when they can't be confident about it.

They tend to pick "new" artists to give them some visibility, but I'm always hoping for a Soulwax remix.

I'm actually gonna wait till the album release. Kind of want to prevent myself from peeking this track, and in some ways, going through almost half of the album already before it's release.

SKIPPING LIKE A STONE

Only Tom is credited on it, so it may have been him working with some other artists for some project or something. Anyone got an idea of what it could be, though?
Melck, Berry and Rowlands would be Ariel. Though I'm not familiar with Time to Burn.
Interestingly, there is an 'Ariel' remix of Time To Burn by Storm (different guy). I wonder if it was mistakenly attributed to the band?

I reckon this is a massive f**k up.
Remember when SACEM got The Boxer by Simon & Garfunkle mixed up with The Boxer by The Chems? That was on the track "Why'd You Lie?" by Brick and Lace, discussed here (https://forum.thechembase.com/index.php/topic,1074.msg28855.html#msg28855). It's still showing on SACEM. I'm guessing it's some crappy AI error.
There
is an Ariel remix of Time To Burn but, as you say, it's a different Ariel, it's this guy (https://www.discogs.com/artist/5408-Ariel-3). Which makes sense, as Time To Burn (and its remixes) came out in 2000, but Tom's Ariel had split by about 1993, so it was unlikely to be Tom & Matt & Brendan.
So SACEM has (1) given a writing credit to a remixer of Time To Burn (which it probably shouldn't) and then (2) it has credited/identified the wrong remixer!
A slightly less full-on f**k up happened with Deeper Throat's Mouth Organ on SACEM (still there). In that case, it did at least identify the correct remixer (The Chems) but the writing credit shouldn't have been given to T&E, cos it's not their track, just their remix.
Hope this makes some kind of sense!
oh PS...

If you're not familiar with Tom's Ariel then check Discogs here (https://www.discogs.com/artist/119708-Ariel) and scroll down to T-Baby for the first ever remix credited to T&E. They have said that this remix of Ariel signalled the end of Tom's 'old' band and the start of the Chemical Brothers (Dust Brothers at the time).

Someone's done a "homemade" separation of the vocals from the instrumentation. It strips away not only the lead vox, but also the choral stuff. Which is why you have to wait 15 secs before you hear anything.

Nice work! Could they separate "ahh", "oye" one-shots from Live Again?
I caved in (geddit?) and have now listened to this track before the album release. I absolutely echo the exasperated feeling that others on here share over the decision to not include the Extended Mix on the album. It feels criminal, to be honest. A real let down.
This is a good song (!), but the Extended structure, musical choices and production are so superior, its omission is a real puzzler. An expanded running time has often been Tom and Ed's friend, allowing ideas to flourish patiently and satisfyingly, and obviously key to the success of winding and shifting tracks such as Escape Velocity, The Sunshine Underground or Hoops.
Oh, to know we could have had it so much better ...
Makes me wonder if they would release an "Extended" version of the album. I would have a completely different feel to it based on what we've heard so far.

Why is a knifeman attacking a dancer? (They still put a dancer in there BenJ!)
Is the woman in the lift/elevator being gassed or enveloped by smoke? Is the stone saving her with ventilation holes? And then selecting a safe floor?
Why is there a can of Beavertown Brewery beer from London in there (and also thanks to the brewery at the end)?
Where does the stone get all that kinetic energy from?
Maybe Kurt Steiner is just that good...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx-wrprpIoI
@rynostar yup, reminds me of The Boxer video. And now that you mention it, it's an accidental meta connection. If you're a basketball fan. There is urban slang for passing a basketball, it's referred to as "pass the
rock". Rocks are stones, skipping a stone is like throwing a bounce pass with mad-spin.
What a funny coincidence that a man named Steiner is the record holder for stone skipping. "Stein" is the German word for stone.
The video is great, but the album track is just awfully edited/structured. This gliding "guitar" sound is getting on my nerves. It comes in way too early and almost goes on forever. Also, I just can't stand this choir for its main melody. This song could be such a great one.
@Csar You'll be disappointed to hear this is one of my favorite tracks on FTBF...
and I think the music video is a really fun concept. Recommend the video

That Kurt Steiner mini doc was very interesting and even made me want to go out and skip some stones (always loved to do this). He seems like a really nice guy. Like Stefan mentioned: What are the odds of a stone skipping man bearing the name Steiner (Stoner)?!

So beer steins were originally made from stone, and that's where they get their name from?
Perhaps the 'cameo' from the Beavertown Brewery beer should have been in a beer stein and been drunk by Mr Steiner?

:D
I honestly had to look that up because I had never heard of this before. Wiki says this:
QuoteThe English word is attested from 1855. It is borrowed from German Stein, which has – aside from its prevailing meaning "stone" – elder regional meanings "beer mug"and "beer measure of 1 litre or 2 Schoppen".
The word can be compared to Old English stæne "pitcher, jug".
The word Stein alone is not used any more to refer to a beverage container in standard German; rather, Krug, Humpen or, especially in Bavaria and Austria, Seidel are used. Oktoberfest usage is Maßkrug.
We call it a Krug, Maßkrug (MAH-s-kroog) or Humpen (hoom-pen)

Also, with this slightly more isolated version of Beck's vocal, can we at least agree that Mr Hansen could have annunciated the 'SHA' part of 'Shadow of love' a little more clearly? It still sounds very, very much like he's starting to sing the word "center".

Yes there's a 6:59 version on Beatport (https://www.beatport.com/release/skipping-like-a-stone-gerd-janson-extended-mix/4276372).
I like this remix (might work well in "the clubs") but I'm still leaning towards the extended mix as my favourite at the moment.
Can't get gatekeeping the extended mixes for beatport, etc just to release them later as the part of remix release, etc, instead of putting them right with the main and edit cut. (Same with remixes)
When it comes to the remix - I like it, but the short one doesn't even use the titular line, so that's funny.

I'm not a fan of most remixes of Chems work in recent years, but this one is fantastic!
The extended version is, as usual, much better.
The extended mix is a massive step up from the original. Definitely a lot of breathing room on a 7 min track. Should've been on the album, as the original keeps me thirsty for more.
But all in all, Beck and Halo Maud sound good together. Especially her on the heavenly chorus at the end.
Count me in with the crowd who thinks the extended version is best and should have been on the album.
Oh my. The remix is fabulous and so FUN!! It's like getting a burst of fresh air when you're on a hot sweaty dance floor. Well done Gerd Janson!
Album version vs Extended - If weighing the two versions outside of the album's context, the Extended Mix is everything I love about the FTFB version x1000. (I have the same feelings for Wide Open No Geo album version compared to By The Light Of The Moon Mix... same with Do It Again Extended vs the We Are The night version....) I guess... I'm not trying to make a point one way or another and I'm babbling. I'm happy to have whatever different versions they are willing to share.
I love Skipping Like A Stone as it is within the album. I'm enjoying For That Beautiful Feeling so much right now, so I am not really bothered by the exclusion of Extended Mix. Maybe those feelings will change later on.

Oh good point, I thought Beatport was the only place to find it.
Shall we embed it? They're keeping us on our toes re: where to play which tracks (regular "Extended mix" is on YouTube but not Soundcloud...)
I must be the only one here who doesn't think the extended version is better than the regular one. Don't get me wrong, I really like it! After all it's longer and has some new elements but, in my opinion, that long intro made the track lose a little of its energy.

Skipping will be released on 7" with a different design cover for "War Child Presents Secret 7"" – a collection of seven songs by seven musicians on 700 records with each featuring unique artwork with all records set to be exhibited and free to view at NOW Gallery from March 2 to 17, 2024.
The concept of the charity initiative, which initially ran from 2012-2021, takes seven tracks by seven musicians, pressing each one to seven inch vinyl 100 times, creating 700 records.
The sleeves for each are then designed by 700 creatives, ranging from renowned artists to newcomers. All sleeves will then be available to purchase via auction after the exhibition. However, the designer's identity is only revealed after the record is sold.

Anyone bidding on a Secret 7" record to get a single of"Skipping Like A Stone"?
I totally see the goal to raise funds for a good cause but the concept is imho just plain stupid: 7 tracks from 7 different artists are pressed on 700 records. Each of the tracks is only pressed 100 times and each single one of them comes with a different sleeve. When bidding for one of them you don't know which track will actually be pressed on the record you buy - only the sleeves are visible. Many record I checked are $100 or more and the auction is still running. So it's possible that you spend $1000 or whatever and still haven't got the music you want...

Just found out an acquaintance through work did one of the Chems sleeves. I was tempted to bid on one's knowing it was the Chems but felt it was too rich. Perhaps if the track was unique it would be more worth it.
