I did see the EPs from Exit Planet Dust newly released on streaming services though
Oooh, this is fantastic news! Does this mean we get some HD remastered videos for Let Forever Be, HBHG, Star uitar (if this is even possible since it uses dated cgi) or even the entire Further album-movie?

Me too!
Does anyone get an eerie feeling that Tom and Ed might not be doing this for too much longer? I hate to think that way, but I just worry that they might be planning a very long hiatus after they are done touring this album.
I sure hope that they come back to the States in 2020 beforehand if they do.
As this is their second year of this tour, I do not expect them to continue into 2020.
Also, a hiatus of 2-3 years at least is usual after a major album release.
From the recent interviews, I got the feeling that they still have fun making music together. I remain hopeful that there will be a 10th album* and another tour sooner or later.

I unfortunately think that at the end of this year, the touring stops for this album as well. How the hell did they not come through Chicago?!!?!? :(

We thought this before when Ed didn't tour and Direct Buki ended with "Goodbye, thanks to all of you". We were wrong.
They are clearly having a lot of fun on tour, and the interviews are sounding infinitely more positive than they did around the release of BITE and the couple of years afterwards. They may not tour for a little (a well deserved rest I would say) but there is definitely a renewed enthusiasm from Ed, which combined with Tom's inhuman need to create audio magic on a daily basis, should give us a lot of hope for more to come.

I wonder if the teaser for Surrender is something totally separate from the Flashback (cue the song of that name) Friday? I know it's being called a box set but I wonder if the other albums will have stuff similar like they indicate. Also, I wonder if they'll put NG stuff up since it's in the teaser (granted expectations with a grain of salt). Maybe at lease the instrumentals and Fantai will be online with No Need🙏?
Quote from: Enjoyed on Jun 07, 2019, 17:10We thought this before when Ed didn't tour and Direct Buki ended with "Goodbye, thanks to all of you". We were wrong.
The use of old material and some old tour stuff in the BITE gigs sometimes led me to believe that it is some kind of farewell. But after pre-NG tour i believe that they just fucking feel it in a new way.
Has it even happened before that they tour for more than two years?
Since I follow them, the tours were 2010-11, 2015-16, 2018-19.
Between were a few DJ gigs.
Chems release decent new album, release "singles" with expensive videos, go on a big ass tour with new visuals, announce a box set of Surrender, then say: we're also gonna remaster some classic videos and update our Spotify with some rarer stuff. Oh they also did a two hour Essential Mix with at least one new unreleased Chemical track on there (as well as a couple of shorter DJ mixes for Lauren Laverne and Annie Mac).

Looks kinda upscaled. The aliasing effect in the windows are pretty noticeable. Or is it my weak graphics card? Also, the video upload date shows 2008. I don't how this works, but can you reupload content without changing the date?
Also, also, why is BRB in 16:9 whereas the others have are in their almost original aspect ratio of 4:3? Did they crop? Looks like the singles 93-03 DVD were cropped.
Quote from: Csar on Jun 14, 2019, 13:07Also, the video upload date shows 2008. I don't how this works, but can you reupload content without changing the date?
I noticed that as well. The post seemed to indicate it was "newly" remastered and re-released but a 10+ year old upload date contradicts that. Kind of odd..
Either way, good excuse to revisit a couple videos I haven't seen in ages. I'd even forgotten where the T&E cameo was in Elektrobank! :))
You can reupload videos without changing the date, I believe.

They probably did some different versions. Maybe it was done for artistical reasons or, more likely, due to restrictions regarding broadcasting violence on certain airtimes? I wonder whether they were broadcasting that violent one after 10 on MTV?

It also seems these remastered music videos is not just Chemical Brothers, but Universal Music Group is going all out with a bunch of artists and will be swapping out a ton of music videos with newer copies over time. It seems the Chems used this moment as part of their Flashback Friday. I know another major electronic whose music videos will be a part of this. :)

Good question. But to be honest, those aren't really 4ks and HDs anyway. They're looking real good though for remasterd video material.
These prices for the EPs are a bit insane though. Music Response and Out Of Control are almost 14 pounds each on Qobuz. I went onto a Japanese lossless site and they wanted $28 each!!! WTF, Chems?

They are indeed insane. The newly uploaded/extended releases combined are basically as expensive as the whole Surrender CD/DVD box set (physiscal release).
I just looked up YT for new Chemical content and UMG apparently has also updated some tracks. Among them is Leave Home and this thumbnail really caught my eyes

They've also got "Let's Leave" by Ida Maria, which suggests to me that they mostly just snatched up the broadest possible range of songs with "leave" and "stay" in the title that they were able to quickly license to cash in on a hot-button topic
"European Son" and "Can We Still Be Friends?" are inspired picks, though

I wanted to make a trade due to how expensive. My Life Is Sweet, Music: Response, and Let Forever Be reissue WAVs for Out Of Control and Leave Home reissue WAVs. To help save a little money.
But I do believe the prices will drop eventually. Maybe in a week or two or possibly a month. But the preview reissue EPs were expensive too and then the prices dropped.

Also, were those videos already 16/9? The Test is 16/9 but Star Guitar is not, and they were both released around the same time, when TV programs were not in HD. When they remaster them, do they also upgrade the ratio?

Well, the Test isn't really 16/9 but, in general, I guess, yes, they're updating the aspect ratio as well. I've got to go back and rewatch some 93-03 again. But from what I've seen so far, like BRB, they did do some cropping here and there. I don't think they were originally broadcast in 16/9 rather than in 4/3 like you suspected (I can't remember either of those videos had black letterbox bars back in the day, but I could be wrong though). My guess for SG is that they deliberately did not crop in order to preserve the intented synchronicity which would be disturbed if they'd reframe the video.
Oh btw, the Boxer is updated, too.

The Boxer and GYH were definitely not updated when I checked. I was a bit early ;D
Loving these video upgrades. Long overdue. Particularly Star Guitar and The Test. I absolutely love The Test video, the dream-like, drug-induced trippyness of it, plus I like the way the beats effect the imagery, like the thumping bass causing motion blur, the front of the house falling, and the way the jellyfish glow. It's now up to a picture quality it deserves.
With Galvanize and The Boxer getting upgrades, I'm expecting to see Believe getting an upgrade too.

Flashback Friday has not really met my expectations yet. I was hoping to see something a bit more exclusive. I'm really not that bothered for the remastered videos, I guess it's more aimed at the YouTube music consuming generation. Be interesting to see if this will eventually end up in some kind new compilation though further down the line.
As for lost remixes we've just had the push the button week and there was no the boxer 50:50 mix which I always thought was pretty fantastic.
I think from further era onwards the remastered single packs should get a physical release seeing they have been digital only releases! My old cd collection stops at do it again, for some reason I did not bother with the salmon dance cd single!
The further flashback could off some great content. If that album video was to be released in hd that really would be awesome. I've only watched the album a handful of times but it is truly an amazingly crafted piece of art. Plus there are a few exclusive that were never sold to the masses, porque? iTunes exclusive. Don't think Japanese exclusive and superflash, elusive.
Not complaining to much, we are getting a wonderfully blessed chemical year, it's just human nature to want more!

If we could get them to release C-H-E-M-I-C-A-L in 2016 surely we could push for an official Superflash release for a Further flashback?

That boat has sailed for me...or has it! No physical release, and I never got to see the live version. Maybe for the release of 'Singles 2004-2019'
One thing I would be over the moon for a Flashback Friday considering the trend the label is going with...
1080p the Hoops/Setting Sun & Temptation/Star Guitar Fuji Rocks performances.
I would make the argument that both recordings are the most iconic in the bands history. In the pre-youtube / stream everything 2003 era, it gave us an exclusive look at the live performance and to see 'unreleased' material (temptation live) that we couldn't of accessed as easily (save bad limewire / Kazaa links). Add the fact that Wowow (Japanese TV station) made a beautiful edit that captured the visuals, the intensity of everyone involved (Tom, Ed, Crowd, Adam in the background), and a snapshot of the Fuji Rock culture that has made it a pilgrimage for many of us. Because it was licensed to the label potentially means that they (the label) could still have an existing deal in the contract to use it in other forms of media that didn't exist at the time. We also know that Wowow has more footage not released on the Singles 93 - 03 DVD with The Sunshine Underground still floating around on Youtube (thanks to Sneaker).
You could also argue that the Red Rocks recording was just as iconic, but it felt more collaboration with Fatboy Slim partnering. Heck, I could see them going crazy and 'officially' releasing the Woodstock '99 with Surrender 20 coming out (with a few 'edits').

The video reuploads take some time, they might do it during the week, and since they're updates on already existing videos they don't have an unlock date like you can usually do on YouTube videos (videos that were not on YT yet like Get Yourself High and Believe were unlocked on friday). Then on Friday they announce everything because new music releases are on Fridays so it fits with the music rereleases on digital platforms.

It's a fine track. However, I wished it was a b-side of WATN because, in my opinion, it didn't quite fit that album's vibe. From a marketing perspective it was quite clever though to include it as it certainly gave it some expostion to the mainstream. I still remember lots of folks that were disappointed that they didn't play it live back then.
But yeah, the Salmon video has benefitted the most so far from remastering along with the test and golden path. Wished they were shot on film to get a true HD/ 4K master, though.

THEY LEFT OUT "NO NEED". I can't believe it. All those remixes no one cares about and they forget No Need, one of their best b-sides.

That kind of makes some sense. I have a bootleg WATN sampler 12" and it has both tracks on the b-side. They were also Japan bonus tracks at the time. So adding them to WATN as bonus tracks over b-sides to singles is in line with the initial release

Yeah I guess it makes sense, although No Need was also a Do It Again b-side so it would have been logical to include it there too

This wouldn't be the first time these new uploads have glitches. Mot Another Drugstore had a couple, also Believe live. Plus using mixed tracks from albums instead of their single versions. There's quite a few WTF moments in these reissues. How do you fuck this up? Is there no quality control?

I can confirm. Although Seal is such an odd song that it almost fits in.
I would've love the Rock Drill and All Rights Reversed (Fight The Drabs Mix) remastered. Now, are the videos "Do It Again" and "Midnight Madness" in full HD? They appear in 360... Thanks for all the information! Pity the Qobuz site is not available in my country.
I think the fight the drabs mix has a cover of Kraftwerk in it, so royalties and whatnot would have to occur. Probably also why most of the stuff in the Dust Brothers era will never get a rerelease.
I think Midnight Madness is supported to be called Radio Edit? I thought first it was that New Years pressing. It's a shame it's not, we could be ringing in 2008 with style still.

It might have been an idea to put all their tracks on YT, even album tracks, remixes and B-Sides with just static images. So that if someone googles their stuff you can find it without having to open up Spotify. Unless the Chems make more money from Spotify than YouTube? Mind you, if that was an issue they would have presumably had other independent uploads of some of these tracks removed from YT?
Also: Nude Night. I was reading one of Peter Hook's books and he mentioned "Nude", a night at the Hacienda. Is that where the title of Nude Night comes from? Maybe this is old news. Maybe I knew this before and forgot. Come to think of it, Nude gets mentioned in an early Chems interview - Jockey Slut '94 as per this (https://forum.thechembase.com/index.php/topic,1043.msg12530.html#msg12530) (under the spoiler tags).
QuoteTom and Ed had always teetered on the cutting edge of good music be it the Mary Chain, Schooly D, the Jamms, joining the queue for the house fest at Nude or stage diving at Most Excellent.

Also how the single mixes of some tracks, like BRB and Elektro were replaced with their album mixes on the reissues. I want to present them a proper list so that they can possibly go thru and fix some of these.
Please post your discoveries.
For example:
Block Rockin Beats reissue EP: BRB full mix is the mixed album version and not the unmixed one from the original single
Elektrobank reissue EP : Elektrobank is the same, album mix with blends
Not Another Drugstore (original 5:30 version) - glitch at 0:12 and 0:23
Out Of Control : The Sasha Remix Radio Edit, it's not that. It's the original radio edit cut from a mix somewhere, stops abruptly too!
Believe Live At Milano Forum has several glitches throughout the track! Needs to be listened to in headphones. I can hear scratching/glitches at the left side - 0:50 - 1:48 - 2:20 - 2:28
Seal has glitches as mentioned. h
No glitch, but the 'Dissolve' video on Youtube is still only 480p.
Oh and please tell them that EP prices up to £13.49 are insane.
Thanks! :)

Hey guys,
Chems are now aware of the issues on thesw releases and the ridiculous pricing and they're not happy about it. They are contacting the label about it.
But if you do find any more glitches, please let me know. They like to have the notations so they can hear the issue.

If we could slip in to add Pourquoi to Further, too. And Don't Think (the live album) on streaming services.

I passed this on to the Chem team.

Good work on bringing this issue to light!
P.S. I also asked about The Rock Drill
Thanks!
I also made another suggestion to them in case it is too late to get these songs on their respective releases, how about a B-Sides Vol. 2???? It's been 12 years! Since the Singles 93-03 isn't on services, I included the 3 exclusive tracks.
Suggestions:
Pourquoi
The Rock Drill
Delik
The Duke
Otter Rock
Her Jazz
My Mercury Mouth
Dust Up Beats (Wipeout XL mix only on the video game disc)
Superflash ;)
Keep Your Composure (Heroes Mix)
Fantai
Eve Of Dubstruction (so it's not by its lonely self)
Any other ideas?
I guess they could even include tracks like The Golden Path, Get Yourself High, Midnight Madness, Keep Your Composure.
I don't know if UMC has the rights to Velodrome or This Is Not A Game.
Some of this Flashback Friday stuff seems really odd. Most of the last few weeks' "new" releases have been available on Spotify in Canada already, albeit not in these more cohesive EP formats (ie. different remixes getting their own one song single releases). Am I wrong in assuming these were all widely available in other regions and on other streaming services?
I definitely expected to be seeing songs from neorev's list getting priority treatments based on the way this campaign was rolled out, but alas that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm thankful tunes like "Power Move" are now available but some actual rarities like "Otter Rock" or "Delik" would be a real treat, not to mention "Rock Drill" or the og Dust Brothers (although sampling issues are probably preventing these as we all know). Give us Singles '04-'19 already!! If that's too much to ask at least put' 93-'03 up for us!
Quote from: neorev on Jul 27, 2019, 19:05Any other ideas?
Dope Coil, Be That Thing, Dust-Up Beats (eventualy replaced version)
Edit: Full length version of the later Dust-Up Beats which was only released on promo-cassettes. And the full length version of Chemical Beats from the FCS EP. Oh, and the Miguel version of everything.

I know why there are two Go (Extended Mix), one is censored and the other is not... Still weird to add both versions...

I know it's kinda square to say "I prefer the regular version" but, I prefer the regular version. Might work in a Trip Hop mixtape though.

I totally agree with you, but the thing with it (or more specific with my :o ) is the fact that this is official. It's an official mix/version/somewhat by the Brothers themselves and i never heard about it. Yes i know, it never was released an cd or vinyl or cassette or shellac or digitaly, but at least you know about the songs they've made and where at least played once (like the Massive Attack remix or the Doves remix or) - and it didn't happen with this for me.
All these mess ups really make me worry me about the Surrender boxset. I hope some did some quality checks before sending this stuff off to pressing plants. I believe Universal was behind the Beastie Boys' To The 5 Boroughs digital reissue and it also had a glitch.

Don't worry, it's two different things. The summer flashback friday is something directed by Universal on many of their artists (including The Chems and Beastie Boys).
Hey guys,
It looks like they are actually fixing the releases! I was checking the Japan store I usually visit and noticed new releases (doubles) for The Boxer, We Are The Night, and Out Of Control. The Boxer (Edit) is actually the edited version now, under 4 minutes where the original reissue was a 6 minute version. I noticed the Sasha Remix Radio Edit of Out Of Control is now 4:17 where the original reissue was under 4 minutes, and I'm guessing they fixed the glitches in Seal hopefully since that release also has a double. So we're getting there!
Just checked the Japanese store and there are new releases for Block Rockin' Beats and Elektrobank! This time with their single versions and not the album mixes of BRB and EB and I'm guessing they fixed the glitch in Not Another Drugstore.
These should be rolling out in other stores soon.
No flashback today?
As someone who has not been following "Flashback Friday" (and too lazy to read 9 pages of posts) can someone make a list/summarize what has been made available so far. I would appreciate it.

All music videos remastered as 4k or 1080p. All Singles and EPs (except for vinyl only ones) rereleased with some unreleased stuff (instrumentals), almost all B-Sides except for Pourqioi and the stuff from Singles 93-03

Pretty sure they're saving this to promote the Surrender Boxset. With the recent unhearthing of HBHG Kink remix, I'm pretty sure we're in for a HBHG EP reissue with new remixes

Damn, and I was pretty fucking close too with the tracklist I said above. Only missing the album version lol.
I just realised that "Believe (Live at the Milano Forum 2005)" is no longer available. It was released in 2019 as part of the Boxer reissue but somehow it has been taken down. Luckily, I purchased it back then. Anyone here aware of other tracks that went missing?

A wicked fucking LIVE gem!
Wasn't aware there was a live recording that was OFFICIAL beyond the 'Don't Think' recording. Was this only part of 'The Boxer' EP digital re-release?
Fun to see

I was today years old when I realized that Snooprah is Harpoons backwards.
That also took me an awfully long time to realize, as the Germans say, man lernt nie aus... ::)
It's the Snooprah Moment
Quote from: Stefan on Feb 03, 2024, 09:34I was today years old when I realized that Snooprah is Harpoons backwards.
but Snooprah is not Harpoons backwards in terms of the song...that would just be silly (plus Snooprah is a sleeper of a tropical rhythm b-side).
Tom and Ed decided they should do the silly backwards song for the 2021-2023 version of swoon live. ie. all the parts are rearranged so the end plays first and the start plays last... but still sounding coherent (thanks to inchem pointing this out).
Or there is that time when on the Breezeblock they let Katmandu - The Break play into the backwards bit (see 9:23).

Flashback Friday: I had forgotten how beautiful the live version of The Pills Won't Help You Now is.
