Title: Announcement Speculations
Post by: Enjoyed on Feb 15, 2018, 18:35
We know it's coming. We just don't know how or when.

Or do we... ?

Based on previous releases, and the state of the industry these days, what do you think we can expect in terms of a release schedule? Will we get an EBW before hand? Or will it be more of an obligatory release like EBW11? I'm sure we'll get the Radio 1 premiere (I definitely hope so, those are always so much fun to be around for) but how early before the album?
1 single then album? 2 singles then an album?
What time of year?
You guys are all way more clever than me when it comes to putting the pieces together. I don't know what time of year all the previous albums were released but I remember BITE was a summer album. Which, if this was to follow suit, should mean they'll be ready to announce in a month or so? It seems the build up time has dropped significantly since the early days, which is a shame. But I guess it also means when it does come we wont have long to wait.

I dunno. My speculation (and hope) would be for some kind of announcement in March/April with the Radio 1 premiere in the latter. The first show isn't until June though... would they wait until after that to start sharing stuff? Or, like BITE, have some of it available but save other parts to be heard for the first time at the live show, before another summer release?

Is anyone keeping their eyes peeled for PRS and PPR registrations? That always struck me as an ingenious way to find things out.

I'm just very excited is all. And I'm grabbing in the dark for answers.
I'd compare it to waiting for the Glastonbury line up announcements, and doing multiple searches on when they were released in previous years, and looking at rumours, and my favourite bands' tour schedules so far - to see if they have gaps.

Maybe the new album will not to be released in this year, just remember 2004 tour.

Well there is this brief interview from a week ago

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p05xnlz7

interesting tidbits:

Tom would like to use the giant satellite dish with their visuals at Bluedot Festival

Tom is still in studio (working on the new album).

It sounds like the goal is to at least have a single out before the tour.

Well we had 3 album releases in june and 2 in july. If we dont hear a new single by april, than i'm gonna say for a fall release, but I doubt that. the tour starts in june so what better way to start gigging with a new album out.

more predictions:

at least the album cover will not be black and white! maybe some blue colored art or something.

i think maybe 11 tracks total (12 for japan)

4 guest appearances on the album (no rappers)

2 vinyl versions...one black and one the same color as the album art.

2 videos from 2 of the tracks

maybe a social media contest, where you win concert tickets or merch

one bbc interview and one bbc exclusive single release (separate dates)

one giant whirly review

thats all i got

Could or would they do a double album?
Weirdly I would not be into that. A double live album I'd love, but I've never heard a double studio album I was really happy with. Too much music to digest at once I feel like. And would take a TON of material to justify two CDs... at least 20 minutes longer than their longest album. Recently it seems like the Chems are opting for brevity.

I'd love a solid EP release sometime. Really love the statement you can make with 3-5 songs that pair well. Or singles again, but I guess B-sides are dead, long live bonus tracks.

I think a fall release is likely.

> A single release or two ahead of the festival shows, promotes the shows and upcoming albums
> Summer festival shows from June-August build more hype for the album release, help get The Chems back on everyone's minds too
> Album releases in the middle or at the end of the festival tour to much acclaim
> Non-festival world tour starts in fall 2017, with an updated setlist from the festival tour and encores at most shows
> Touring carries on into 2018 and ends in the spring

I would say that they might pull a 2004 but release Eps every 4 months or so until at most early 2019

Fair point, but I can think of one or two:
Prince: Sign o' The Times
Nick Cave: Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus
Arcade Fire: Reflektor
Springsteen: The River
Led Zep: Physical Graffiti

2018 and 2019? I was thinking the tour might go even longer than that. If the album doesn't come out til late 2018 they may want to continue to plug it through 2019. BITE touring lasted, what 16, 17 months (albeit with gaps)?

I only write the last year on things in February, not January, weirdly enough.

Same. Though listening to it also relieved me a little as he definitely sounds committed to getting stuff finished. Certainly not at all put off by the lack of things coming together quickly, which I think bodes extremely well for us hearing something truly delicious this year.

It does sound like things are a little further off than I had hoped. That's definitely a shame.

I can't see this happening at all. As nice as an EP would be, Tom sounded set on the album and that long form expression. I think another C-H-E-M-I-C-A-L type release could be a self-enforced, label backed plan to hold people over until the album is finished. The more traditional club sound that we've heard in these new songs feeds into that as well I think. A release for the DJs, that also fills some radio air time and keeps the fans happy.

If this helps the puzzle, they will tour Australia Summer 2019 since tour announcements are already made for you guys this year and thats when they usually come. They skipped us for the BITE tour so hopefully and likely this time around with another new album and and a newer evolved show. (usually Feb - March by themselves) or January if festival but the festivals these days are quite small unless they hold off til later and go to a big one interstate that is usually on.

I hope they blow everyone out of the water with this as in this climate its hard give a new release attention that it deserves.

Opposite for me I'm afraid. I fear it could be a rush job in order to have an album ready in time for the autumn (when non-festival dates loom). Rush job may = bad album. It might also be a distraction from creating an exciting new live show.

For America, I assume New York, North Coast in Chicago, 1 standalone show in CA, dunno if they will be there in time for HardFest. They seem to like that production crew or whatever, since I think they run all of their US shows aside from the standalone CA one?

August album release possibly?

i have no prob with eml playing bg in that vid! Its just that everytime you hype a new tour vid, it should be accompanied with a new track that we havent heard yet. It seems they're not ready to put out the fresh material or not even a single. Album might come out after summer maybe.

im leaning toward this or a fall release, and i'm not sure if they're even gonna come to the US this year.

HARD fest is on Aug 4+5, but Chems play Spain on July 27 and England on Aug 11, so a small gap for them to play is cutting it close.

EDIT: looking a chems tour on home site.....theyre doing june, july, august, and october, but september is wide open! (cue Beck)

Well for what my opinion is worth, I think everything is pointing towards an album in 2019. Hopefully we'll get an EP to coincide with the arena gigs. Would be nice for them to return to their roots and give us a standalone ep. If think the fact that the UK shows are not in December is very telling that their tour plans for this year is brief.

Any how i look forward to the ally pally show, ticket and hotel already booked. Hopefully get to some more arena show this year.

Wouldn't mind getting an EP to hold me down till a proper release. Screw it! Just do Chems!

And if they're not coming to U.S. then I'm gonna have to find a way to get to a show.

More to add to the Chems/Aurora link. On an Aurora fan forum, they talked about an interview where she says she worked with one of the Chemical Brothers. It's in Norwegian though.

https://radio.nrk.no/serie/tett-paa-norske-artister/MYNF51000517/03-07-2017

She says "Chemical Brothers" shortly after 3mn30. No idea what she says about them though.

Following on from the above comment in the 2018 Live Dates thread, please see a tweet below. Assuming this Aurora fan knows her/his shit, and hasn't just assumed it's Aurora after talking to a certain Chems fan, then this would appear to confirm it is her. In fact the image behind the Chems at around 1.57 (and in the tweet) appears to actually be Aurora. And the video in the tweet? It's by a certain Chems fan from this forum.
Pumisher, you happy to go 50/50 with me in taking the credit for figuring out the Eve Of Destruction vocalist? (a bit of pre-brexit euro co-operation).

Although I don't know Aurora (shame on me I guess, an education gap to fill), looking at her pic and the video I can safely say that it is that woman. Eyes, nose and hair match. It would make sense then to assume that it is she who's on vocals as well.

No secret is safe from you guys!

I've never heard of her before you guys started speculating either. I just listened to her biggest (in terms of pixels) video on her website though. It's good. Very Scandinavian, with more of a folk leaning than some other artists like Robyn etc. But also a lot of British melodies going on too. Laura Marling esque at times?

Her voice is definitely great, and I can see it working really nicely on top of some chemicals (I mean it already is in EoD).

I can't help but wish they'd somehow got in contact with Ingrid from Highasakite, though. Her voice would sound so delicious on a Chems record.

After scrolling through her instagram, I would best describe Aurora as the real deal Luna Lovegood.

Very nice voice though. Would be better utilized in a downtempo track, but we'll see..

It's still a fan twitter account, but I think it's pretty safe to say it's her singing.

She seems to have a bunch of instagram/twitter fan/news accounts, one of them took my picture and stuck a big watermark on it. I commented, giving the source of the picture (the YT video) and saying if you're going to take my picture, don't put a big watermark on it, two minutes later the same instagram account posted a snippet of the YT video and deleted my comment ???

What do you mean we missed it? They debuted the track (we think) at their OGR Torino DJ set last November. It was spotted at the time, in the DJ Set thread, then added to the New Tracks Recap thread. Most of the YT clips were removed by the record company though. By March of this year we were starting to (correctly) guess who the vocalist was, as per posts further up this page.

Thanks I remember it now. Probably because it was taken down I forget about it and had some large breaks in between the forum. I wasn't sure if it was a new one of the chems at the time as its quite different for them. Its quite simple and laid-back but when pieced altogether it gets a bit familiar.

I also thought something was wrong when I thought this was missed and alas this is why.

There are two official teasers for EBW12. I find it hard to believe those would be released unless we were expected to...expect. And I find it hard to believe we will only get that one track this year. As for the album, yeah maybe not this year. There was that Tom radio interview which suggested it wasn't really 'there' yet.

That's all I can say, we will have to be much more mysterious about things in the coming months, but right now we have not been given anything resembling a release date.

I can confirm that right now, Explud and the ChemBase team do NOT yet know when the album is set to be released.

That's all I can say, we will have to be much more mysterious about things in the coming months, but right now we have not been given anything resembling a release date.
Thanks WN. But you do know when something is set to be released!  ^-^

If the album really isn't coming until next year, then I feel a lot less guilty about listening to the new tracks from Lisboa. And then listening to them again. And then a couple more times. And then playing them to my wife. And then listening just a couple more times. And then putting them on now.

bahahaha.........wait a minute! this makes me concerned!  :o

Im afraid im gonna ruin the 'new album' experience when i first buy the new album! it pretty much means I already listened to 1/4 or 1/5 of the album before it came out.  ???

That's ok, my friend. I've planned by the first time a trip to Munich with my girlfriend, but it's failed. Ok, then i've started to plan a trip to the Athens gig. But, it's failed. Shit. I will not see the Chems this year live. Shit.

But, bro, let's hope that they will come to the US and Russia next year, eh?
Love is all, surrender to the void.

Hmm

Abbiamo qualche ospite, tra cui una giovane vocalist nordica, Aurora, che canta sia in alcune tracce dell'album sia nei live set con voce molto bella ed evocativa
So Aurora is on more than one track, if I understand this correctly.

I just remembered that I had yet another dream about The Chemical Brothers. This time an announcement for a festival in Chicago THIS YEAR.
The announcement, IIRC, talked about coming back to a favourite event of theirs. One that they had clearly attended a few times.

Something.
Is.
Coming.

I feel it in my bones.

So the background pics now are:

King Spaniel (or whatever he's meant to be)
slightly spooked mask people
Free Yourself
Free Us
Free them
Help to free me
Free me
Dance

I think that's the lot. More than one of these tracks is coming out at once, isn't it.

I'm guessing "someone" was either trying things out or uploaded them by mistake. I'm sure the Chembase team knows more than I do.

To add to more speculation...

Back when EBW 12 was initially teased in June, didn't Erol Alkan say something on Twitter to the effect of "been listening to this for a while"?  Now that we found out the release wasn't imminent, I wonder if he was asked to do a remix.

Electronic Battle Weapons were historically ALWAYS released on the first of June. I'm really surprised this one wasn't.

Unless it was, really really quietly. Just Tom and Ed sneaking 12"s out here and there. But I think we would have heard about it by now.

Well he said this:

Not sure that suggests a remix. Every now and then I check Youtube and the twitter search bar for recent uploads of his DJ sets but can't find anything recent (apart from a minute or two here or there of something non-chemical).

I searched EBW12 and Mad As Hell last night (and Free Yourself) on the twitter search bar (it throws up stuff that google doesn't). Usually someone, somewhere will tweet about unreleased music they're listening to, but all that comes up are live clips that we've already seen (many of them Ben J's Rockhal footage). There's no way it was released that quietly.

With the anniversary of 'Come With Us' being today, I just remembered 'Surrender' is turning 20 later this year.

Any chance of some sort of special release even with the new album on the way? I know we got vinyl re-pressings of the entire discography a couple of years ago, but you know I always like to speculate and push this type of thing!
