Well I don't know if Erol Alkan has been given the whole album or just this track. But he's DJ-ing it.

Considering that Errol seems to be their good friend It's not surprising at all, I guess FLIAD is next in the single rollout
Yeah I remember Erol playing a version of Out Of Control at Field Day in 2019 that was something more like the Psychedelic version on the anniversary and that was a week after the announcement of the 20th Anniversary I believe
Erol is in the chemical family!
It's not unusual for him to get early dibs on fresh chemical brothers tunes, much like Justin Robertson, definitely in the trusted inner circle for road testing material. I know Erol has even played some if the Chem's exclusive DJ edit. It was his forum that I managed to get the don't fight control mix. And I don't mean one of the dodgy bootleg versions
reckon this will be the next single surely?

That sure would be nice, not because this one makes me jump but more because i'm a lot into Wolf Alice's music. But from what i've heard live or the dj sets, this hasn't got a single vibe. Saying that, Sometimes I Feel So Deserted also doesn't sound single compatible to me but has been released as such.

There is an Erol Alkan forum? 🤯 He was playing Superflash 10 years ago. Could be worth digging
Unfortunately the Erol forum closed down many years ago
hmm... so The Chemical Brothers have a clip in their instagram timeline story with 2manyDJs performance from Pukkelpop over the weekend, that will probably expire by the time morning rolls over in Europe. Anyway, it's them playing 'Feels Like I Am Dreaming' but with animated works of Nicholas Krushenick (FTBF featured artist). I'm not sure if it means anything, but it's looks pretty fucking rad!
Oh yeah, and I guess this confirms Dewaele Brothers have "the goods", too. I think most of us assumed this anyway...

Why are mov-videos (quicktime) allowed as an attachment in the forums but mp4 isn't? Who's still using quicktime in 2023? Even Apple doesn't...
^ At the time of writing, it's available on the Chems insta stories, but not on 2ManyDjs.
Looks like a fast moving collection of still images rather than the more "animated" sleeves we often see in 2Manydjs sets.
EDIT: Maybe there is some animation actually, especially on the middle screen. The side screen images change very quickly.
Oh and at the risk of derailing the thread, does anyone remember the snake game that used to come free on Nokia mobile phones? I like the imagination of combining that with the Blue Monday '83 sleeve. I remember seeing this at a festival around 2008 and being blown away by it.

:Cray
Mov is just a container where the codec (h.264) is housed in. Just try it: Rename a mov file to .mp4 or vice versa and you'll still be able to play it back with any media player that supports h.264 - which is almost all of them. You don't need Quicktime at all.
But I've added mp4 just for you!

YES! I just went through the EML ritual thread where I saw they played that, and said "they've gotta play something from FTBF," and they have! It's about time! I need a full video of it with the transition in and out and a better view of the visuals.
If I ever get to see 2ManyDJs (which I really hope I do), they better play this!

On the basis of the clips that have been circulating, it looks like the 2 Many DJ's set at this year's Pukkelpop had a new approach where they ran all the usual "point a camera at the stage" side-screen footage through a Fairlight CVI (https://youtube.com/watch?v=t_B1Zk-CQP0),
a la their Mehari (https://vimeo.com/26048972) mixes (https://vimeo.com/26112742). That's probably what you're noticing!

I think about it daily.
SO much time sunk into that game, after 'borrowing' my dad's phone to play it.
Badly needs a bump! This is an absolute f*cking face melter! Totally lived up to the hype!
At this point, I would be shocked if this isn't released as an EBW or at least an unmixed track. Maybe a favorite for record store day Black Friday?
An absolute banger, the only flaw of it is the lack of longer beat section right after that big breakdown drop, the live version keeps it for few bars longer.
Defo need the longer, maybe even 10 minutes EBW mix of it!
Beside it? It's perfect
Absolutely insane track. Face melter is completely right, not least because I was smiling so hard on the first listen through that my cheeks got warm!
Probably their best track this side of Further, IMHO.
Does anyone have some deeper information about this?
Do they get Ellie into the studio and let her say/scream/sing just this one sentence? Or is it a sample they've taken from somewhere else? (doesn't come from a Wolf Alice track, checked that) Did they record a lot more vocals with her? Was she maybe the vocalist besides Beck on this album but then they switched to Halo?
She gets writing credits on this but is not a featured artist in the track title like Beck or Halo. Also, Ellie hasn't said a single word on this "collaboration", no sign of promotion for this while a couple of years ago she wasn't that quiet when working with Mura Masa.
Maybe we should check Wolf Alice live recordings?
Maybe it's some kind of spoken words to the audience between tracks?

Have you seen the Wolf Alice film On The Road (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5647250/?ref_=nm_flmg_t_10_dr) directed by Michael Winterbottom? He also directed 24 Hour Party People (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0274309/?ref_=nm_flmg_t_29_dr) which I own on DVD - a comedic re-telling of the story of New Order's famous Hacienda nightclub (Here To Stay by New Order & The Chems was released for this film's soundtrack). Oh and he directed 9 Songs (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411705/?ref_=nm_flmg_t_26_dr) too, which 'came' with a certain reputation.
Anyway, On The Road is a reasonably straightforward "rockumentary" following Wolf Alice on tour. Winterbottom chose to whack a couple of ficititious characters into the film (a female tour manager and a roadie who gets romantic with her) which was an unusual choice. But mostly we get lots of soundchecks, and live clips and life-on-the-tour-bus kinda stuff.
And you know what Ellie hollers 55 minutes into the film? Nah, me neither but it isn't "and it feels like I am dreaming". She doesn't say/sing that anywhere in the film. Oh well...
There is a LOT of live footage of Wolf Alice on YouTube though. So I guess you could try sifting through all of that. But if you come up with nothing after watching 18 hours of footage, don't blame me!
I don't know how to describe it but hearing this song live for the first time last year off my tits on a couple of handy pills (one of them an antihistamine for allergies) was very much a psychedelic experience in and of itself.
To say the least, I identified with the song.
And it's so unbelievably good.
I've been hung up on this song for the past couple of days, wanting to talk about it but not really sure where to jump right in. Physically this song makes me break into a light sweat just sitting here listening and not doing much else! There are lots of big feelings here and they're kind of all mixed up. Feelings from hearing this at Portola last September (has it really been almost a year already??) - being transported back to that moment of being immersed in a sea of people losing their minds, dancing with Pooter and Ryno and inchem and the fam and a few hundred new dancing partners in the fog in San Francisco. Then the more intimate experience of hearing this within the album and how carefully and deliberately (at least it feels like that to me) this is woven between The Darkness That You Fear and For That Beautiful Feeling. The gentle courage from The Darkness is put to the test the deeper I fall into rabbit hole of Feels Like I Am Dreaming. It churns and swirls into a sort of waking night terror. There are two guttural sounds (you know which ones I'm talking about) it make me feel like I need to run from whatever it is - its sinister, mega, it's a lot bigger than me, and the only way out of that space is to dance through the fire. The chorus at the end is like morning light through the windows - it's the light that dances across closed eyelids as sun's coming up and as the song drifts into the gentle, percolating lullaby of For That Beautiful Feeling... like I said. Lots of big feelings all kinda mixed up, lol

This clip just returned on yt and comparing it to the version presented on the album I really wish we'll get an unedited, extended mix as the single as my only complain about the album cut is that it simply ends right after that second big drop while this one keeps the rave going for a bit longer.
Man, where tf did they pull this sample from? Even though it's the one sentence repeated over and over - her voice is really captivating.
Slowly becoming my favourite on the album.
Quote from: HavanaVegas on Sep 21, 2023, 19:28Man, where tf did they pull this sample from?
The album credits list "Vocal Sample: Ellie Rowsell" but we've yet to track down an original recording of her saying that precise sentence. The use of the word sample, and not, "vocals by" obviously suggests it wasn't recorded specifically for the track, though I've also been wondering if it could be sneakily referring to some of the other female vocal samples in the background?

It's criminal to end the track too soon. I was just getting warmed up.
Overall, a massive W for the Chems. A lot of repeat plays keep me sticking around in wonderland.
This is the standout track on the album for me. Its the most "Chemical Brothers" sounding track too in my opinion.
Yeah it could do with being longer but that's just a sign of how good it is, its 7 minutes long and people complaining its too short ;D
Still get chills every time I hear this one. Definitely my favorite moment of the show in Denver last year when this hit. Fucking madness...
So Wolkenkrabber asked the right questions at the Tom and Ed Q&A in the Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/oct/19/the-chemical-brothers-we-played-on-top-of-a-toilet-block-with-sequencers-on-the-loo):
Can you tell us about Wolf Alice singer Ellie Rowsell's writing credit onFeel Like I Am Dreaming [from the new album]? OffWorld1
Tom: Ellie is an incredible singer and a couple of years ago we did a lot of sessions with her towards writing a song that never got finished. While making this album, we had been DJ-ing and came back to that performance, so we looped the "feel like I'm dreaming" bit and put it in this other song. She gets a writing credit because she came up with the words.
He's still playing it.
