Ah so it is "Live Again" rather than "in love again". Unless she sings both?
They used an existing piece of art for the sleeve of TDTYF. I wonder if this one may be an existing piece of pop art by someone like Roy Lichtenstein? Like one of his "Pop!", "Wow!" or "Wham!" pieces.
Don't worry, the Wizards here will probably just merge the two threads.
The part that starts at 0:20 in the preview sound so amazing. Can't wait for the full track!

Hm, Sacem only lists "Dreaming" with Rowsell so far.
Also, no entries I could find with the title "Live Again" with either Tom or Ed as creator/composer, so apparently the track isn't listed there yet. Might be worth checking the database every now and then in the next week.
This was out of nowhere!
It's good! Need more!

Since this one isn't on SACEM, it seems possible it could also have a b-side! Perhaps the Rock Witchu track? I can only pray, I absolutely love that one. Or something that's slipped through our surveying eye in the DJ sets! I will definitely be keeping an eye on it!
Oh I liiiiiiike it! Such a good tease! Can't wait to hear more of this ear-deliciousness!

COOL!To go further, the album (single) art, looks like it's a puzzle piece that matches with others that you might find in trading card sets.

PS there are two B's in Wolkenkrabber, so your @ didn't turn blue and I never saw this post. Or something.
Dang! I'll say it again: dang! Glad we're getting this! I'm also equally curious about the artistic direction the single/album is going in.
As far as the artistic direction goes, the artworks we've seen so far (No Reason/All Of A Sudden and Live Again) couldn't be more different
So, when do you think Live Again will drop?
Release Friday as usual?
Must be imminent. They shared a live video that actually has got to be a using studio audio track.

^ Oh that's tonight. In less than five hours for me.
The "link to" (https://thechemicalbrothers.lnk.to/Live-AgainEM) looks a little spartan.
No YouTube link and they don't bother encouraging us to buy it from places like Beatport (though it may be worth checking Beatport for an extended version anyway).

That's exactly my plan for tomorrow ;D
So Wednesday apparently means 7:30am UK time, I guess?
https://twitter.com/ChemBros/status/1673797546622296065
I'm predicting (only because I want it to be true), single drops Wednesday followed by album announcement Friday. Too many tracks are being dropped without an album notice at this point. I know it's the formula these days, but I'm still a fan of the full album listen versus tracks here and there. #oldskool

They've told us the album drops on Friday 27th October. You may have to quell your hopes/expectations until then.
I think Oct. 27th was just a stand-in date in the pre-order emails. Iirc in one of the interviews after that th y mentioned that there isn't a specific date yet, just that it will be in Fall.
so you tellin' me october 27th is not final date for not final artwork?

Tom introducing it (also, Lauren says Not Final Artwork release is September...):
Full release is OUT...🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳what a tune. Saw them at Glasto's on Arcadia. Incredible show. Can't wait to see them again!!!!
Now this is Fast Music. An absolutely thrilling track.
Anybody already on the trail of what sounds like an 80's Danceteria-type cut sampled in the intro and/or breakdown?
Some thoughts:
Halo Maud is an "indie" type singer-songwriter. I can't help but think: she wrote a more complete song than this.
It almost feels like she recorded a song and wanted to release it as a single, so Heavenly called the Chems and said: "Hey can you do a remix for the single release of this song?", and Tom went: "yeah we'll rip it up and make it ready for the floor".
We get some song-y bits in the first minute of the track, but after that the only lines we hear are basically "can we live again?".
The flange-y bits at around 1:38 (five minute version) are great, but it feels like that bit should be the "middle 8"/break and should happen about three quarters of the way through the track (around 3:24 onwards). It's too early.
And yeah, I want to hear more of the song. I'm sure Halo Maud wrote more of a song.
I like it but I want a different edit!
Quote from: ThePumisher on Jun 28, 2023, 06:19so you tellin' me october 27th is not final date for not final artwork?
It's a whole theme
Goddammnit I'm here at work without decent headphones so I'll have to wait until I get home
Hm.. Don't know how to put this. It's a nice track, a good idea. But I can't say I'm that hyped yet. Perhaps it's the editing like Wolkenkrabber said, I don't know.
I love the part where they break off the main loop to let it breathe for a moment and then let the deep bass kick in (the soundscape during that part is fantastic, want more of that!). The edit is a bit more succinct as the full 5 min version dwells a bit too long on that synth loop without adding much, imo. The hi-hats as prominent as they are could use some variations here and there as well, imo.
Maybe needs to grow on me.
I'm really enjoying it, but that's no surprise. The arpeggio break reminds me when K+D+B was being performed live.
I'm also wondering if the intro and/or outro are transitions on the album. Kinda like the intro of HTL. I did like how much punchier the intro synth is at some of the love shows (filter envelope and resonance knob turned up), but that might be first version bias. Anyway, feeling hyped, but again, not surprising.
Quote from: Biff on Jun 28, 2023, 11:08I'm also wondering if the intro and/or outro are transitions on the album.
Good point! There's this faint bassline at the beginning of the extended version that's never brought up again throughout the track.

Can we agree on calling every Chemical show "love show" instead of live show? You know, because it is.
I like it. I got the same vibes when I heard Under Neon Lights for the first time...
This song has been stuck in my head since that teaser, and is permanently implanted in my brain as of 4am (yeah I woke up early to download :D)
I really like this. Like, a lot. The beginning reminds me a bit of... like when you are tuning in on a radio, and you adjust the knob and finally hit that sweet spot on the dial :music Love that whirring of sound orbiting around that warped pulsing bass, and that fluttery break at 3/4 (was not expecting that!!), and the vocals are really nice and dreamy.
This will be on repeat today and listen to what else my ears pick up on that I didn't get with the first few listens... I can't wait to hear this in context with the rest of the album!

It's also in my post at 9am UK time. BUT it's a different upload. The earlier one was timed at 5:01, this one is timed at 4:59.
The track time isn't a big deal. But I'm confused by YouTube channels when things get uploaded twice like this. Both on the official Chems channel.
Anyone understand why this happens?
Oh wait, the earlier one was Chemical Brothers Topic. So the automatic "topic" thing is quicker than the Chems channel?
No big surprises since I've listened extensively to the DJ and live love bootlegs, I think it's really fantastic! It might be my favourite of the officially released new tracks so far!

Could the existence of an Extended Mix mean it will get a 12" release? One can dream...
YES GIVE ME MY LONG VERSIONS
Listening to the extended version - and only the extended version - I'm hearing something in the intro; the first 43 seconds. I think we've heard it in the live version, and I thought it was a muted trumpet sound at first (Mallorca Live Festival thread). But now I'm thinking it sounds like a sample from Roy Budd's "Get Carter" Theme (https://tinyurl.com/yyw79675). Thoughts anyone?
I think I'm inclined to agree with those who have questioned the structure of the 5 minute edit - the peaks and troughs don't quite land for me in the way they do in, say, All of a Sudden. The shoegaze texture is lovely and I'm a big fan of the psychedelic breakdown from 3.24, but the skittering rhythm, hi hats and cymbals all feel a little lightweight to me. Maybe I was expecting the bass and percussion to hit harder than they do, or for the track to flow as naturally as a tune like Burst Generator. This all could, of course, feel different within the context of the forthcoming album ... these Brothers do usually tend to work it out.
I love this track. This album is going to have such a unique sound!
Yeah I love this track, first time I heard it was at Printworks in December and I took my phone out to record it straight away. Its a banger :luv
breakdown bit at 3:24 really feels like 1990s orbital to me
Love it from the first listen, the lush of main synth riff is so addictive.
Now all I need are the full lyrics and fancy B-Side!

I was hoping this one had the first half of the track when it is played live, that subtle bassline was so good.
About the track itself I think it's great, been listening a lot since the release. I felt it kinda had a slow momentum in the live set though when I first heard it in May, don't know if it will hold on in the setlist after the tour because of it.

I too bought the extended version from beatport because collections need to be well-kept.
Overall, i still think this track is a banger. I don't think it is in my top 20 of all Chems tracks, but neither are No Reason, All Of A Sudden & The Darkness.
I can agree with all who said the vocals are really nice but too little. Wonder why they cut the vocals short and hide them in the first third of the song. And talking about hiden vocals - they're very quiet, i hear more synths than vocals. On the live recordings from the past few love shows they seem to be louder and clearer which i like more.
The longer intro from the extended version is really really good, but apart of that i'm fine with the 5 min version.

Nope!
There's an extra sound in the intro to the Extended Mix (6:38) only. It's not in the 5 minute or short single version. I think you took your clip from the 5 minute version (?).
Listen to the Extended Mix intro for a sound that almost sounds like a muted trumpet (so it's
not the funky bass or the vocal snippets). I think it
might be the harpsichord/piano melody from the beginning of the Get Carter theme, perhaps slightly pitched up/messed around. - The first 30 seconds of Get Carter.
And if it was sampled without permission, that might be why it has only been snuck into the Extended mix.

See, I disagree with the consensus here. I love the unique style of the track and feel the lyrics work perfectly as is.
I've made my feelings known before that I prefer an underground or experimental style for the Brothers as compared to the safe top 40 radio collaboration vibe we often get anymore. Don't get me wrong: I like that stuff, too, and I understand they are a big name out to make big money. It's hard to be "underground" when you're top in the game. Still, the last few singles and tracks we've previewed have me very excited for the next release.
Of the 3 newer tracks, this is my favorite. I thought this on the first listen, but had to give it a day or so and revisit several times to be sure.
It's more of a sample than lyrics.

I'm with you on the experimental comment. It definitely seems like, since Further, their flirtation with more radical ideas has received a healthy dose of critical acclaim too (incidentally, I still believe We Are The Night remains their finest and most freely creative work since Surrender).
Live Again is an oddity because its opening recalls the sedate, psychedelic tendencies of Snow and Asleep From Day and that "underground" element you write of. So the decision to make it "danceable" with the use of feathery hi hats and kick drums makes it almost sound like a companion to Swoon and, dare I say it, closer to that top 40 vibe you mention.
Might be in the minority here, but I think this one is a proper banger. Much more so than No Reason. There's some lovely Surrender and CWU era vibes in there. I really like the love/live ambiguity, and I think this track is a great "light" to No Reason's "dark" message.
Haven't been this pumped for a chems tube in a while!
The credits for Live Again have finally appeared on SACEM.
No sign of a writing credit for Halo Maud, but perhaps that's just SACEM being incomplete again.

Long-term Chemical Brothers collaborators Dom & Nic (Wide Open, Hey Boy Hey Girl) have directed the video for Live Again, which is online everywhere now. You can watch it BELOW:
Dom & Nic on the video: "Working with The Chemical Brothers is a dream for any video director. We're really lucky to be still making films together after quite a few years. The Chems just keep smashing it with great tracks that demand videos that live up to the music and hopefully add something extra to the whole experience. Live Again is our tenth collaboration... the woozy, wonky analog sounds and the dream-like lyric suggested a hallucinogenic visual journey following a character caught in a loop of death and rebirth. The idea inspired us to use the new Arri XR virtual production stage and its cutting edge technology in a way that had never previously been done. This is an idea that could not really have been achieved with traditional filmmaking techniques. We created virtual CGI worlds and used long unbroken camera takes, without edits, moving between those different worlds seamlessly with our hero character. Making and editing the video, we were showered with the generosity of such a strong and huge team of immensely talented companies and individuals that helped us to make this film happen because they love working with The Chemical Brothers. Without their time, talents and generosity a film like this could never make it out of heads and onto a screen."
What a wonderful statement by Dom and Nic. I always appreciate it when those behind the scenes also get recognized for their work. Shows that these two seem to be really nice lads!

I'm guessing it's "pikey" rather than "pickey".
Pikey is UK slang for "travellers" i.e people who live in caravans and move around at will, setting up camp with their extended families. Often with Irish accents, as the nomadic lifestyle is part of a (dying) culture in Ireland.
See Brad Pitt's character in Snatch, or the main characters in Trespass Against Us.

Maybe it is, but does it work as one? Dunno :/
Hmmm.
Honest thoughts? Maya had no interest in remixing the original. She's done some great stuff before, such as:
this one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1yncmvdOX0)
but this Live Again remix, like a lot of the recent remixes, feels completely phoned in (literally with some of the weird, unnecessary filtering of the vocals).
Is it DJ friendly? I can't imagine someone wanting to put that into a mix personally. You could make your own live edit of the original by looping, filtering, and using a more interesting drum loop, and get a much more dynamic sounding result.
It sounds to me like scraps of a demo that was lying around, with the bare minimum to constitute a 'new' version of the song added on top.
Pretty disappointed. Her vibe is definitely minimal, but this sounds stripped to the bone.
Where are the folks who are fucking jazzed to remix The Chems? Jazzed and talented.
Also, and maybe Wolken will agree as I know he always spots these similarities, the main melody/loop/whatever you want to call it, seems very similar to this classic (?) from the dance music world:

Now. The J Majik remix of that one ^^^^ That's a fucking treat.

Quote from: 𝒥𝑅𝒮𝒵 on Aug 03, 2023, 22:45Oh and the extended mix hit the streaming as well ;)
So the extended version is on Spotify but not on Beatport. Hmmm
Quote from: Enjoyed on Aug 04, 2023, 02:39this Live Again remix, like a lot of the recent remixes, feels completely phoned in (literally with some of the weird, unnecessary filtering of the vocals).
...
Also, and maybe Wolken will agree as I know he always spots these similarities, the main melody/loop/whatever you want to call it, seems very similar to this classic (?) from the dance music world:
[Hatiras / SPACED INVADER (Original Mix)]
Now. The J Majik remix of that one ^^^^ That's a fucking treat.
Yeah, I guess the way MJC has filtered it, it kinda sounds like that Spaced Invader track. And also her choice of claps/drum sounds is very house-y (and boring), so that adds to the similarity.
I'm not particularly a fan of Spaced Invader (sorry!), and after a couple of plays I don't think I'm a fan of this Live Again remix.
I can't say I'm
disappointed surprised though. I've heard Pete Tong play a fair bit of MJC's stuff on his show. It tends to just wash past me - neither engaging me nor annoying me - she's just... ok.
I'm not as negative about some of the other recent remixes as you are Enjoyed, but this one is thoroughly unremarkable. I guess she's a well known name though - so it might help to get the Chems into the "record bags" and ears of current DJs and clubbers.
Remember when KOKOKO! did a remix of Eve Of Destruction? It was certainly a left field choice, but I doubt it did much to make the Chems sound current in clubland (or at least spread exposure). Perhaps this time the idea is to get as many current 'names' as possible attached to Chems remixes for the sake of exposure/relevancy.
Personally I'd like a remix by Adana Twins or Red Axes. Red Axes have featured in Chems DJ sets before. In fact, wouldn't it be good if the Chems selected the kind of current artists who they actually
play for remixing duties? I don't think they've ever played Maya Jane Coles in a DJ set, have they?

Haven't seen it when i was looking
Edit: Was talking about the remix, the extended version of that isn't on beatport
Edit2: Ok there isn't an extended version of the remix on spotify either. JRSZ posting looked like he was talking about the remix when posting the link to the "extended mix"

Kayos Bros remix, please. I've heard they're pretty good!

"let me know what you think, I hope you enjoy"
Who's going to let her know?
Incidentally on the Instagram version she doesn't say, "let me know what you think".
So I guess we can only let her know on Facebook!

EDIT:
@Bosco sorry for turning the page on your joke, it was a good one (as long as people have read the Pilton Party thread in LIVE).
maybe it's a rhetorical solicitation for input

Hard agree. Another thing that I think made earlier remixes feel a bit more special (as per previous discussions re: it being a physical release with more meaning) - it felt like they were being remixed by their peers. I guess with such a legacy now it's a little more difficult to match that (and I'm not suggesting that Futureshock was on the same level at the time of Surrender) but there just seemed to be a more meaningful connection between the names remixing, and the releases of the time.
Again, MJC is a relatively big name, but you're right, The Chems wouldn't chuck this snoozer into a set, so why pay money to have it done?
How about a DJ Koze remix? The woozy Halo Maud vocals would sound great in a Koze production IMHO!
Still giving handclaps for a Akufen remix of any of their songs
Just watched the music video again with my kids and noticed that the album art work is behind the sink. At least at the end of the video. Makes me wonder what other clues might be in the video.

Try the beatsource, it's where I've bought it at premiere

EDIT: I remember when S1 of The Mandelorian came out, it was said that that show was the first big production to shoot in front of a giant LED screen instead of a green screen. Looks like these guys have followed in their wake.
A belated thought on the music video itself: I like our protagonist lady and I like the changing scenery, but we see her head down on the table no less than eight times by my count, and I would prefer a bit less of that. Even if she did something a bit different like go into the toilet or collapse on a bed, or walk in one door of the caravan and out another, it would break up the repetition of the head-on-the-table, IMHO.

Looks like it is nearly the same as Lucasfilms Industrial Light & Magic Stagecraft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StageCraft).

So, the video was shot on state-of-the-art cameras and then T&E said "make it look like it was shot on a potato". ;D
Oh wow, i can watch 'making of', but not the main feature, wow, thank you, thank you...
Is the music video restricted for you, Explud?
Yup, still restricted.
Don't worry, I watched it twice when I was on vacation in another country.
Quote from: Explud on Aug 15, 2023, 11:44Yup, still restricted.
Wait, what? Is this part of a content embargo for Russia?
Hope this doesn't keep you from hearing album on release...
Quote from: Bosco on Aug 15, 2023, 18:27Is this part of a content embargo for Russia?
Yes, that's exactly it.
Quote from: Bosco on Aug 15, 2023, 18:27Hope this doesn't keep you from hearing album on release...
I can' t officially listen to it on the day of the release in any way.
I don't have the opportunity to buy the album directly somewhere or somehow. We have not received content from digital platforms since the spring of 2022, everything has remained in a "frozen" form since that time. Plus, contracts are terminated and content that has already been published or purchased(!) is gradually disappearing from the streaming platforms.
So I can't pre-order from any of the digital platforms.
And it is not possible for me to buy a physical copy, due to the fact that Visa/Mastercard has been blocked and payments are not accepted, even Paypal is blocked.
Yes, imagine that I have to say on the official forum, that the only opportunity to listen to the album on the day of release for it's administrator is only piracy.
Of course, I have already asked my friends in the UK to buy me a physical copy on the day of release and send it to me. And the hard way, but I transferred the money to them.

Glad it was vacation. Not the alternative / scary / please don't die conscription way to currently visit another country in your region.

It was Turkey, not any of the neighboring countries :)
Halo Maud has uploaded a video of her performing a lovely accoustic version of Live Again
https://www.instagram.com/p/CwNO5joq7ZH/
Now I need it to be released!
Lovely. At this point we likely can create a ambient / chill mix of chems features doing solo / original works of their lyrics.
Edit: ooh! Shower thought. Maybe this is an idea for the usual dj mix that Tom and Ed usually do around album release. Haven't had anything yet. I've posited the theory before.
I was hoping she would reveal previously unheard parts of the song. Instead she just stopped and blew on her guitar. Oh well...

That's not important, what's important is that she forgot about "ahhh" and "eh-ye-yeah"

Are you also annoyed by this in the track?
It even began to repel me from re-listening.

Not at all, but there could be some sections without it.
The earlier (and live) version of No Reason had the "woo!" playing over the full track, excluding the breakdown.
Those sounds in Live Again are the same thing as Woo! in No Reason
Quote from: Explud on Sep 01, 2023, 07:16Are you also annoyed by this in the track?

Why? This is one of the good parts in LA. What's always "annoying" me is the off-beat vocal sample that sounds like "all I want" or something like that. It sounds off by some milliseconds. Could be a deliberate choice by T&E but it just feels out of sync.
This is making me feel very grateful and happy. Can't wait to hear it live at some point. After going to my first Chem Bros concert in Seattle, these types of tracks hit a bit different.
Geez!? Have I never posted on here?!? What a forum creeper...
so turns out this song was kinda forgettable for me as a single but I love it in the context of the album. it's a perfect warm up into No Reason.
Saw this bit of news yesterday floating around online. The Live Again video is nominated for an award!
