Title: Deluxe packaging
Post by: Ford on Jul 18, 2015, 00:18
Hello everyone - can those who have received their deluxe CD package please post a photo of it? I'd like to see what type of packaging the UK, US and anywhere else got. I've ordered the Japanese version, which is confirmed as a digipak on ebay, and it was mentioned on the Facebook group that the non-Japanese release would receive better, more 'deluxe' packaging than a digipak.

I'd rather nicer packaging for the collection than the extra track, since my CDs just sit on my shelf anyway and don't get played.

If the Japanese packaging is the same as the UK/US, then I won't cancel the order.

EDIT: Got my answers on Facebook, Discogs has some good images of the UK packaging and it is different to the Japanese package. I'm going to get both!

Fotos can not capture the true beauty of this awesome design! Initially I thought it looked quite basic and not that exciting, but now that I'm holding it in my own hands, it's such a gorgeous package. The haptic of it and the white ink are just wonderful. The booklet on the other hand is indeed a bit plain and simple but it somehow works in the grand scheme of things.

Can't stop looking at it and touching it.

Funny side note in the booklet:  Fabric design from 1843!?

The store where I bought mine had both the normal CD and the Lt. Edition. Both had the same packaging, exept for the tracklist on the back.

Strangely, the media store with the sixth of our planets in its name was not supplied with new releases on Friday morning so I had to wait until late afternoon to pick up a copy. Even more strangely, they only had two copies in total and both were deluxe versions.. Something went wrong with the vendor one of the sales staff said.

Anyway, I love to put my sticky fingers on the cover. Great to hear it's like that for each and every version.

I will be picking up my vinyl copy this weekend (hopefully, provided one of my 2 local shops has it in stock!) Otherwise I will have to make the pilgrimage to Amoeba records in Los Angeles.

Ahhh, That's cool that it's made ouf of the same fabric. Having this in 12" is going to be terrific. Still waiting for it to hit my doorstep.
Also, it looks like the CD print is slightly shifted to the right, or vice versa.

Amoeba! What a fantastic store this is. My manager back in the days recommended it to me and it was just mind blowing, from a German point of view :) It's also where I picked up the Further LP.

Which number did you get on the silk print? and when did you pre-order it?

833/1000, ordered it on May 26. I ordered through the MusicToday store and not the TheChemicalBrothers.com store, which might have had a difference on the number.

Mine's due today and already dispatched. So I hope it'll be here in the next couple of hours. Still no words on the wav files, however, even though I contacted them yesterday. I don't really need them but the customer service seems a little messy with this release.

YES recieved my deluxe cd and 3LP today. I got 797/1000. I think I have to frame this otherwise how do you keep it nice?
Does this mean the 3LP is also limited to 1000 printings?
It looks very nice and it sound much better than Spotify :D. I haven't heard any bonus track so far.

I have an old hifi stereo with a seperate record deck which still works (for how long I don't know since the LPs are quite heavy).

@toxic: Why did you buy two LP versions?

I have 2 turntables and a mixer, so more than listening to it I like mixing it.

I'm guessing it might depend on where you ordered from, MusicToday or TheChemicalBrothers.com.

Also 123 is fantastic, but I'm really happy with 833/1000 - 1000 is exactly 120% of 833 (repeating of course) so it's mathematically pretty.

Yes I was a strange child.

I decided to keep my order of the Japan edition CD and order the triple vinyl LP from the Chems store. Don't even own decks yet - I've just decided to start a small Chems vinyl collection. Also just ordered the Surrender reissue from Amazon. So turntables are in my future!

Postage of the triple LP to Australia would have been 19 quid. Luckily I'm flying to Europe next week and my British friend is meeting up with me - I've had it delivered to him for 4 quid instead.  ;D

Make sure you dealt with the whole LP subject matter before you go buy any turntable. I learned recently that one might need to get some extra devices (like a preamp) given what type of system it is going to be (moving magnet MM or moving coil MC). I don't know, though, what's the more common these days.

Btw, 19 quid, given the distance, is quite "cheap". Even though the UK isn't that far away from us here in Germany, we still had to pay 16 euro bucks.

Dude!
You gotta buy some decks there, I bought mines (Technics 1210s) in germany for a bargain. And buy lots of local records, it's so fucking cheap it's amazing.

I'm looking at purchasing the Audio Technica LP120 USB, will cost about AU $380. Comes with a preamp built in so I will just plug it into my existing home stereo.

Any tips on where I could track down some Chems records whilst in Paris?

Yes!!! It arrived today to Santa Fe in Argentina! Like made of a sort of fabric, in the shape of a book, one cd with the bonus tracks. Made in the Czech Republic. I can't upload the pic from my phone, but I think you already know the cover. Happy day!
Title: Re: Deluxe packaging
Post by: Csar on Jul 31, 2015, 23:54
Cool! I hope you'll enjoy it! I had a look at the regular CD and 2LP. The deluxe editions are truly superior. I don't regret not having them canceled after the store debacle.
Some word of advice from me: be careful with the cover. The black color ink appears to be rather thin so that scratches can damage it, making the sublayer shine through.

Speaking of which, I haven't managed to get a new cover replacement. They would just refund the whole package if I sent it back. Furthermore, they haven't sent me those bonus files yet they promised. Either my English is too bad or they're lazy as hell. I contaced them regarding the downloads, explaining in advance that I had checked my spam folder etc. just to make clear I hadn't received and deleted it by accident. The first reply was a counter question whether I had checked my spam... NO, I did not  ::). Then they promised to send it. The mail I then got had nothing in it apart from their standard letter of apology. So I tried to approach them once again. Their response was a "we look into it" sort of thing. This was last week. Nothing since then.

I am still waiting for my Triple Vinyl too, but I am not fussed, postage from the UK to Aus can vary from a week to a month sometimes. I don't think it has anything to do with the Chems Store. I'll wait a bit longer before I contact them.

You would think that when a parcel contains something limited edition they would make it traceable though.

So i finally received the LP last night.

I gotta say the packaging is amazing, it actually exceeded my expectations.

One thing though is that my litho came slightly damaged, in two of the corners it was definitely dropped or something before it was packaged as it came in between two pieces of cardboard and the cardboard was not damaged, however two corners are significantly damaged.

Should this be something i complain about? i dunno?

Oh, that's a bummer!! Well, as you might guess, dealing with this kind of thing with customer support is as tedious as your shipping issue. I have a dent/ scratch in my cover sleeve and asked them for a replacement. You most probably won't get a replacement, like myself,  just for the lithography, I'm afraid. So, you would have to sent the whole package back and request a refund or total replacement - that's what they gonna tell you. And you would have to pay the shipping fee by yourself.

Maybe they can just send you a new litho. Companies need to learn that half-assing packaging does not flip profits when they need to resend stuff.

Why would you spend even more money on an album you don't really like? I'll See You There is not that much different and might not necessarily warrant another buy of about €60 in my opinion.

Is it just me? I don't hear any differences between the track on the cd and on the triple vinyl. Except for the ending of Under Neon Lights and the beginning of EML Ritual.

I do think it's a huge missed uportunity to put Reflexion Extended on the 3LP in stead of the album versions. Would have made the 3LP just a bit more exclusive.

And this is thedeluxe edition (cd). It says Made in the Czech Republic. Btw, something I read in other thread: "piku" is the slang word in Spanish for "pick-up", the old portable record player. It's pronounced that way by older people who don't know English and couldn't pronounce it properly. It is written "piku/pikú/picú". I'm pretty sure that's what the name of the track means. Cheers!
