I guess I'll be the first to state this claim...

April 2020 in the Americas = Coachella 2020 potential. To support this, played Goldenvoice promoted festival and Goldenvoice promoted shows already this year.

Now, to be the first to shoot it down...

The sting of 2011 incident. Would have to play two weekends. Been There, Done That.
Title: Re: 2020 Live dates (Info, tickets etc.)
Post by: Biff on Oct 13, 2019, 21:53
I was wondering the same thing too, but probably with the scheduling conflict with that other now irrelevant band, plus the 2-weekend deal (which Ed annually jokes about) it'd be a no. Plus, they seem to be doing more one-off shows on continents.

they have had enough time to cool off since 2011, time to kiss and make up. they love each other really. the history they have together.

Wow, so that's for sure 2020 tour. I'm almost certain that there will be a Polish festival date (I hope Open'er Gdynia).
Not really a fun fact: There has never been a standalone Polish date ever. There was one in preparation in 2005 but due to low ticket sales - it was withdrawn a month before (despite the very low price - around 12 euro).

If a standalone Barcelona or Paris date comes up, I'll probably go too.

I'm gonna be crushed if they don't make it through Chicago at some point in 2020. I'm watching these dates like a hawk and my inclination is that Lolla is going to grab them, but then I see dates the week before at Latitude and I think, it's not happening.  I NEED THEM!!!!

Electric Forest announced their lineup yesterday and The Chems aren't on it, so there goes my ultimate dream, but that'll increase their chances of showing up at North Coast.

In a perfect world, they'd Headline Movement and do a standalone night in Chicago the day before or after.
Title: Re: 2020 Live dates (Info, tickets etc.)
Post by: Bosco on Dec 05, 2019, 02:23
No disrespect to Movement, but have they ever opened their wallet and gotten a big, "get"?

The only one I can think is Kraftwerk*. But I would imagine the feelings were mutual towards playing that festival. So cost wasn't a big thing to get that done.

* nothing against Orbital, they are awesome, but their show cannot cost the same as Kraftwerk or Chems at this point

I like Coachella's odds at this point, and Ultra Miami might be in this thing too.

also, the North Coast festival that we knew, is no more. The people who booked the Chems (twice) are no longer owners of the festival. Not happening.

More than likely blocked by Latitude Fest listed above. I don't think they have the budget for them or the cost for proper setup (looking at you North Coast with the legless George and Mildred).

Lollapalooza could make sense just because they have the money and setup to pull it off. But I don't think it's a fit for the demographic Lollapalooza plays for. I'll believe it when I see it. And if does, then I'll have very mixed feelings... 'cause Lollapalooza is possibly the biggest shit-show festival in Chicago.
Title: Re: 2020 Live dates (Info, tickets etc.)
Post by: shakermaker on Dec 07, 2019, 02:48
I could see lollapalooza happening just because lollapalooza might be after some different names in their roster, and over a long enough time line they will consider almost everyone. and for the chems it could broaden their exposure a little. heck they played woodstock.

Oh come now people... part of the fun of going to Coachella is grouping up with your posse and judging everyone that isn't part of your group.

Seriously, the perfect gap in dates and general locality couldn't be more obvious. Let's end these rumors of pettiness, and rejoice in the inevitable return of our music overlords.

To start the healing, I'll bring my King of Leon CDs!!!!

Best-case scenario for a Coachella set is the Chems get to wheel out their singularly excellent live set on the current biggest stage of the music world in front of a massive crowd without interruption, and maybe we also get a quality proshot video of it if it goes up on the livestream. Worst-case scenario some new band eats up a bunch of their timeslot and we can stop making Kings Of Leon references in 2020. The fans win either way imo

Spoiler
(https://media-prd.coachella.com/content/content_images/76/7vXQZqCldM7TDHVGg15mC4T5doIxfrCpbFHkESZ0.jpeg)

They must really have it out for Coachella, a bit disappointing that's still a thing.

I kinda think the lineup is pretty good (at least Friday and Saturday) and would have been pretty satisfied attending after 5+ year absence.

On the bright side, I think we have a Danny Elfman tour to look out for 2020.

So to return to Rynostar's question about potential other US festivals (not necessarily in the April time frame)...

Maybe Outside Lands or a rumored return of Day for Night festival? Anything else would be kinda be a stretch or surprise, I think.

they are way outside of Outside Lands' demographic. Day for Night, if it returns, would be much more suitable, but I feel like a separate north american visit is unlikely.

hoping for something, or anything. might still consider Mexico.

Yeah, I don't have a pulse for Outside Lands but I do want to note the promoter is connected to Bill Graham show from last year.

I am kind of relieved not to see the Chems on that Coachella line-up. I've had my time in the sun but I'm over that festival, frankly - so come at me with the OK boomer jokes... Though with the gap in the already announced dates, I would say I'm a little bit surprised. Maybe the two weekend commitment doesn't make sense logistically? Or who knows maybe the line-up will change like it always does (even at the 11th hour like it did when Chems were given the closing spot over Bjork and Shitbirds of Leon all those years ago.)

I don't blame people having mixed feelings about Coachella nowadays, so no "OK Boomer" jokes coming this way.

From my angle, it is hard not to feel sentimental. The Chemical Brothers had what seemed to be a beautiful relationship with Coachella since its inauguration. It's been 9 years from their last appearance. If they aren't playing this one in 2020, especially considering their availability and proximity to the other tour dates within the same month, I don't think they'll play the festival ever again. That's pretty sad to me, regardless of how much the festival has changed.

I'm also pretty happy that I wont have to make a tough decision about going to that festival. I definitely am feeling my age when it comes to shows and festivals. The last time I went to Glastonbury (2016) I felt obligated to go hard into the evenings to make the most of my time, but it was also feeling pretty samey (a little harsh as it was always going to be tough to beat 2015). But with those experiences, I really have no desire to do the same thing IN THE DESSERT. Glastonbury when it's wet and muddy is one thing, but having to hop from shade to shade and remember to hydrate every 5 minutes, while being surrounded by (from what I hear) some of the worst people in the music going world... Nah.

I hope they'll announce something stateside this year. Chicago or the Midwest would be awesome as it's been a while and I'm eager to get back!

I'm also hoping for another UK date around the Isle of Wight festival. I'm going to be in the UK for 3 weeks in June but the only thing I have arranged for our visit is on that Saturday  :(

Fingers crossed for all of us, I guess!

Truthfully, I feel pangs of nostalgia for Coachella. I moved recently and came across my Coachella booklets and tickets I've saved over the years. It would be salty and crusty of me to expect that festival to never change and evolve. I agree it would be sad if the Chems never played there again, for whatever the reason(s) migHt be. To me, the Chems helped make my experiences at Coachella what they were.

The heat out there in the desert can be a killer. Usually in the spring it's not too terrible, but it's still dry and the midday sun is blazing, you still have to be mindful with being hydrated. And generous with re-applying your 9000 sunblock. There are cooling stations and accessible water around the festival which is well laid out. Coachella really is a great festival and something to experience at least once. Though I don't know if it could hold a candle to the mother of all festivals, Glastonbury!

The main issue for me when it comes to Coachella is mainly my husband, and his overall comfort. He enjoys himself eventually (he loves seeing the Chems) but going to festivals is rather low on his list of things he wants to do. As he's gotten older he has a really difficult time with crowd and social anxiety in general.

One thing that irks me regarding Coachella in its current state touches on inchem's "Cashella" remark. There was a time when the lineup barely made headlines beyond the California area and specific scenes through the internet. As soon as the lineup is announced now, not only are we picking up on it immediately, but I see it on BBC News and even on one of the 24-hour Canadian news channels (CTV). How is a music festival lineup reveal world news. There isn't a huge reunion or one off compared to past years (daft punk 06 or Rage 07).

Glastonbury is the same right? I guess they see the news as being important to the general public. My friends back home wouldn't be considered 'music fans' (they're around music, but don't seek it out) but they're always interested to see who is playing the biggest music festival in the UK - who's the big 'Pop' artist this year, who might they catch on TV that weekend or what have you.

It is strongly recommended to not attend any mass gatherings as these pose a high risk of getting infected. If it's not canceld, I'd advise you not to go for your and others' sake.

With the high probability of all shows being whipped from 2020, anyone think they might explore a new "live" recording release to compensate for lost revenue from all the shows that are bound to be cancelled this year?

I'm sure there is some type of festival insurance in play to make things right, but maybe a thing to think about.

Regarding lost revenue, this would indeed be a nice practical way to make up for their cancelled shows. And now that you mentioned it, wouldn't it be the ideal moment to pitch to them (again) the idea of releasing live shows from the past??!!?? I'm aiming for some sought after live moments like the Pills, das Spiegel, AMMC, the Golden ACID Path from 2007, BRB from 2005 etc. pp.

I wonder if they will end up touring in 2021 instead and what that might look like. of course when I say that I really mean if it will improve my chances of catching them. realistically the financial impacts of 2020 might mean a lot less is possible next year, even though people are going to want it so much more.

Honestly, I cannot imagine any concerts or events of this size happening this year. Unless there's a vaccine (which won't happen anytime soon) or at least an effective and widely-available treatment, it would be incredibly irresponsible of the organizers and any artist agreeing to play there.

Even if they tour within the next year or two, their tour dates might be even more selective than they were before. Any underlying health issues with Tom, Ed, and crew, will suddenly be more focused than before. We know Ed is (or was?) a longtime smoker, I'm curious about his attitude towards touring at all with the risk of the virus not being tamed in certain areas.

With no evidence at all, my guess is they'll put touring off and explore some type of musical, visual, production. Think 'Further', but with a bigger budget.

I misread your quote with a period then realized that Ed's broadway debut is long overdue.

Tom builds a robot for science, but he escapes. Ed tracks him down and teaches him to love, through song.

Gutted about Tokyo. Obviously, as the dates became closer I knew it was going to happen, and rightly so, but still a big kick in the nuts as FujiRock was so amazing last year, and gigs in Japan are always a fantastic experience.

that and Irish park, as those 2 are the only locations on the tour to have encores. but I appreciate their concerns.
