Title: [Tour 2021] 2021 Live Dates (Infos on re-scheduled and new shows)
Post by: Csar on May 28, 2020, 15:43
Due to the current corona madness lots of gigs have been cancelled for this year. Luckily though, some shows have been rescheduled to 2021. We'll update the list as soon as we get new information.

So, fingers crossed and let it happen!

Yeah, but fingers crossed that it may pan out in the right direction somehow. Also, let's hope that Brexit will have no major impact on their touring mood and ability.

Now announced as headliners on the last night of Glasgow's TRNSMT festival - 10th-12th Sept (much to the disgust of my 2 teenagers who aren't fans of the brothers... and had got tickets to see Lewis Capaldi, who the Chems have replaced as the headliner...)

Ah, I've just checked out this Lewis Capaldi guy and I can totally see why they're not into the Chems. It's an entirely different musical realm. If they go and see the brothers, though, perhaps this will be an epiphany moment for them... But whatever happens, fingers crossed it'll take place as scheduled!

Well, the only solace I can give you is that it will not be the last one, unfortunately. But I can't see why the Bros would skip it in 2022, unless the date would collide with other commitments. So fingers crossed that you'll be able to catch them eventually!

Someone at Chemcial HQ seems to have forgotten to update the Chems website Live section.
It appears that all Rock In Roma gigs are now off for this year too. Some are being rescheduled for next year, but it's not yet clear if that includes the Chems.

If I were a betting man, I'd have my money on the two UK dates being most likely to go ahead.

I rather think about being able to play with all that situation we live in right now.
I don't think, that they would split right now, not without the final album and tour to say goodbye.

I'd argue between the 2018-2019 gigs and the pandemic they got a new lease on life. NYC 2 years ago (wtf) was probably the most energetic I've seen the duo on stage so I think they're gonna stick around for years to come.

Tom was def talking about more the aspect of the show and the feeling of returning to the stage, and....I should hope so because I love when the Chems have those uplifting moments in their shows

Also Snow/Surface should just...never leave the set...ever

The fact that I used my one free trial of the Sunday Times that each of us is allotted at birth to access this article better be a part of my Fan Rep from now on:

Quote
No one will notice, but there are likely to be tears in the eyes of the Chemical Brothers when they headline Latitude festival in a fortnight's time. The duo, as usual, will be half-hidden on stage behind towers of electronic equipment. The full-capacity crowd, the first at a top-tier UK festival since Covid struck, should be spellbound by 3D visuals of a cast of dance music's most distinctive characters.
"It will be emotional," the band's Tom Rowlands says from his home in Lewes, East Sussex. "I could still be blubbing by the encore."
He and his partner, Ed Simons, were in final rehearsals for gigs last year — scheduled for parks from Colombia to Italy — when suddenly they were stuck at home. "The timing couldn't have been worse," Rowlands says.
The Chemical Brothers had toured for much of 2019, in support of their double Grammy award-winning ninth album, No Geography. In the UK they packed arenas and wowed Glastonbury for the tenth time. In the US two anonymous Brits nearing 50 years old sold out stadiums. Thirty years into their career the Chemical Brothers have never been bigger.
"To see fans back at football matches while festivals are forced to cancel for a second year is inexplicable to me," Rowlands says. "Why is one more important than the other? It's the same shared experience that's fundamental to us all."
Rowlands is just as angry at a government that has abandoned the club scene in which the Chemical Brothers started out as DJs having met at the University of Manchester. "Clubland had already been hollowed out pre-pandemic," he says. "I don't want to bang on about the good old days, but clubbing was how you found your tribe. It's still vital to young lives, an experience you don't get through a screen.
"What's weird is that we have a generation of people in powerful positions who grew up seeing the seismic shift in arts and industry that came from club culture. They went to festivals. Some of them still do. But ask them to recognise either in a formal way, as they do in other countries, and there's silence."
Rowlands and the London-based Simons coped with a year of cancellations by making music, remotely at first. At home Rowlands came across an obscure 7in single he had bought years ago on a whim for a dollar.
"It was a song from an American kids' TV show called The Bugaloos, created by the guys behind The Banana Splits," Rowlands says. "I'd played it once before and dismissed it, but this time its strangeness spoke to me. The female vocal was arch and icy. It summed up how I was feeling."
He paired a sample of the vocal with another from a Soul Brothers Six song for the basis of what became the Chemical Brothers' new single, The Darkness That You Fear.
"What's great about samples is that they speak for you, articulate your emotions," Rowlands says. "The moment I heard this icy voice beside a raw male vocal, a huge wave of optimism hit me.
"Then one of my kids came into the studio, which they never do. None of them has the slightest interest in our music. For the first time my daughter said, 'Oh, that's quite good, Dad.' I could have cried."
The emotional heft of the Chemical Brothers' club music is what has kept them having hits, despite dance music ceding its place on playlists to hip-hop and R&B. Their sets are packed with classics that haven't dated.
"We never tweak our old songs," Rowlands says. "We love them because they captured how we felt in, say, 1997. Would you want to hear the Stones update their old songs? Of course not . . ."
The duo must, I imagine, be furious that their global success is barely recognised in Britain. They've won six of the 14 Grammys they've been nominated for, yet their sole Brit award win was in 2000 and they were last nominated for a Mercury prize in 1999. "That's not how we roll," Rowlands says. "It's not an issue that even interests me. The only time Ed and I went to the Grammys was the first time we won, in 1998, when awards were a new experience for us. The ceremony was so long and impenetrable that we decided to nip out to a bar across the street for a break. By the time we returned we'd missed being given our award. Even then we found it funny."
The Chemical Brothers headline Latitude on Jul 24. Their new single, The Darkness That You Fear, is out now

Is it confirmed that the chembros will play at electric picnic? They were confirmed for last year's festival but it didn't happen, so, any chance they will perform there?

Pretty sure Electric Picnic has been cancelled - the irish county won't let them do it.

They'll be playing a DJ Set at Printworks on december 12th, alongside Erol Alkan, Justin Robertson and James Holroyd. Noisia is also set to play their "last ever London show" (because they're splitting) at Printworks on the 10th.

Man, if I my baby wasn't due 3 days before that date, I would definitely try to go :D

Should be on BBC Iplayer's Scotland channel, highlights at the very least although as they are headlining potentially a full set.

Don't think so. (https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p04r9yt8/trnsmt)
The Day 3 highlights show (9 'til midnight) has 20 minutes left right now, and no Chems so far.
There is an hour of Primal Scream in the catch-up though. The rest of it? Meh.

In addition to the Printworks DJ set mentioned a few posts above is a new Warehouse Project date:
10th December.

https://twitter.com/WHP_Mcr/status/1452733131816153088

Paul Woolford v Special Request = Paul Woolford B2B with eh, Paul Woolford.

Effy on the list too. I posted her track, FMG that she did with Mall Grab in Now Playing a while ago. Check out Raging (https://youtu.be/tiGZPlxbL04?t=1) too.

The two most recent Chems remixers on the bill. And Erol Alkan. And Overmono live. Good lineup!

I wouldn't bet much money on them playing obscure tunes such as unreleased Chemicals.

Looked through my voicenotes and have a good 30 seconds of darkness you fear actually, it was the HAAI remix. Go intro also teased

We were right next to the booth can't have been more than 3m from Tom for most of it. If anyone has any idea, track IDs on the other two recordings would be amazing

Emily Eavis was also about, and one of the other highlights was this Enjoy The Silence remix in room 3, was terrific

The vocal on the "woo" track sounds like something from the early 80s. I feel like I know that voice but can't place it (Jeremy Healey from his Haysi Fantayzee days? Martin Degville from Sigue Sigue Sputnik?). The other track? Don't know, but the sound of the bass synth feels familiar. Maybe it reminds me of "Through Me" or something.

The woo track seems a common sample, did a bit more research earlier (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woo!_Yeah!). Doubt its a new song, seems its a very common sample. Didn't get anywhere on the other one, they were just two i liked rather than guesses at new tracks.

The bit with Norman and both brothers in the booth was at the end of his set, I guess they were just getting ready - Chems, Fatboy and Annie Mac were in the booth a good bit of eachothers sets

Wrong woo! That Wikipedia article is talking about this woo (+ drum) at around 01:22 which was in lots of late 80s/early 90's house/rave tracks.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKix_06L5AY

in fact even Lyn's vocal was included in this track:

The "woo" in that voicenotes clip is performed by whoever the vocalist on the track is, I believe.

One of the tracks in their stories appears to be an edit of "I've Got A Feeling" by The Beatles (specifically John Lennon's "everybody had a hard year" verse)? A quickie in reference to the Get Back documentary or something they're planning to release? Or something by another producer that's been languishing at 12 plays on SoundCloud for weeks? idk

Yeah, that would be the easiest way, but I cut them together and just uploaded it on YT, more convenient for everybody else.

Here's a song the Chems have shared from three different users, to me it could very well be a Chemical song:

This one might just be a different part of the song in the first three videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaQ_8BfHBQU
Recorded by https://www.instagram.com/chloe.rodgers.music

This was recorded by the same user as the first video, but I don't think it's new Chems material (and so far, they haven't shared any part of it on their own account):

One of the tracks in their stories appears to be an edit of "I've Got A Feeling" by The Beatles (specifically John Lennon's "everybody had a hard year" verse)?
I can't remember if it was via post or story, but Ed or the Chems posted a clip of that edit(?) on Instagram leading up to the gig as well. I'd guess it's a fantastic edit DJ only edit they've worked on (and a cheeky reference to COVID at thr same time)

Edit, here is a v short clip via Ed! https://www.instagram.com/eddyboysimons/tv/CXA1WVBAv6f/?utm_medium=copy_link

I think they've played the "everybody had a hard year" sample in combination with C-H-E-M-I-C-A-L on a DJ set last year, or this summer, when was the Social event? Defninitely heard it before.
Any idea if that's at these shows? At printworks tomorrow and would love that. They did C-H-E-M-I-C-A-L at Latitude and it was fantastic

So videos 1,2 and 3 are all the same track.
Listening to the last couple of seconds of the top video it really reminds me of the "wig out" part in the middle of Midnight Madness. I'm voting 100% Chemical.

Not sure on video No 4. Might not be part of the same track...

Video No 5 - at least at the start is Tiga VS Audion - Nonstop. We've heard this in Chemical DJ sets before, such as their 2019 BBC Essential Mix. Listen below from about 2:11.
The latter part of video No 5 might actually be a Chemical rising sound being mixed in.

Thanks for your efforts Stefan. Embedded YT clips is a good choice for Forum playbacks.
Any idea why we get those digital stutters? Is that Instagram or the software you used?

Yeah, that would be the easiest way, but I cut them together and just uploaded it on YT, more convenient for everybody else.

Here's a song the Chems have shared from three different users, to me it could very well be a Chemical song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QghZlT4eX2A

This one might just be a different part of the song in the first three videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaQ_8BfHBQU
Recorded by https://www.instagram.com/chloe.rodgers.music

This was recorded by the same user as the first video, but I don't think it's new Chems material (and so far, they haven't shared any part of it on their own account):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhXgpZW8FJ4

That 1st track sounds like the potential EBW13

Since Instagram stories breaks up longer recordings into segments of only a few seconds, I combinded them back together, this is where the stutters are. Maybe it's the editing software I was using (OpenShot) or my lack of editing skills, but in this case I didn't really care about the quality of the transitions.

There is a track with a woo sample running through it. Wicked funk base line intro and echo/reverb vocal saying something like "we got to slow down" 100% chemical. They dropped the tune twice at the printwork. You knew it was theirs first time around seeing how they were watching the reaction to the tune

EDIT: The warped pop/rock track is now part of the Chems Insta story so I think it's one of theirs: https://www.instagram.com/stories/thechemicalbrothers/2727942721910577038/

Thanks Sneaker. Yes this is the one I've been calling the warped pop/rock track and it was on the Chems Insta story so I think it probably is new Chems.

So, so far we have:
1) The Woo Track - almost certainly Chemical
2) Stefan Clips (1,2,3) Synth Wig Out track - almost certainly Chemical.
3) The warped pop/rock track - almost certainly Chemical (Ellie Rowsell/Wolf Alice collab?).

In addition:
4) Stefan's clip No 4. I don't think it's the same track as clips 1,2 & 3. But it could be new Chemicals.
5) The "All of a sudden it's like..." track that was on the Printworks insta story but has disappeared now. This could be new Chemicals.
6) The Beatles-sampling "everybody had a hard year" DJ weapon which I would wager is nothing more than a DJ weapon/intro track. Probably not for release.
7) At the end of Stefan's clip No 5, there's a rising Chemical sound, but that could be anything TBH (we know that the beginning of Clip 5 is not Chemical).

Is that everything?

EDIT: Here's a nice clip of Stefan Clips (1,2,3) track from Friday in Manchester. Look! Someone who knows how to hold their phone the right way. This tune certainly seems to make an impact with the crowd.

Definetly, although, this song reminds me of 3 little birdies sorta mixed up with WEP, hope they make this song at least 9 minutes long, and mix it with escape velocity on concerts
For the woo-track, I like it but it kinda feels the same way i feel for EoD. I think it would work absolutely great as a studio track, but maybe on live versions it might not work that way.
With the other songs I actually think some of them are gonna get Superflash'd or Problem:Question'd, but I just don't think which song would be as all of them sound great but maybe not album-level good? Maybe we get to see them a la Loops of Fury??

But it's unlikely that they will release a new E.P. while the new album is in the pipes and with TDTYF a first single of it is already released.

I don't think so - based on my video timestamps Woo was played 1hr after Stefan clips - I was there but couldn't say for 100% as someone said they played Woo twice (i don't remember this though happening though honestly). This video has both in near the start and has both near the start as separate clips - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDZxtuDjggA&t=73s

Maybe it was played by another DJ at the same night? Erol Alkan was also performing and he's been known to demo new chems tracks too, he probably played the Woo track at some point in the night

He did play HBHG although it was pretty hard to make out over whatever else he was playing. I didn't watch his full set but a good amount of it

If Stefan is reading this, can you capture the fourth slide and add it to your YT clips?

The Woo sample is a pretty classic sound, used for example by Luke Vibert (in an album where he uses a lot of classic, almost cliché samples). I wonder what its origin is though.

What the heck!?  How did you get this!?!?!  I saw on a youtube highlight that they mixed OOC and DIA and NEEDED to see more, but I didn't expect to be scrolling through the forum and finding a seemingly studio version of it with the visuals!  I love that they've kept around those visuals for so long now, and finally now remastered them to have this green electricity type feel.  Also, that's the original "I seen the funk electric" sample that was supposed to be in the original song!  I prefer that one, so it's really cool to see there, but I wonder how exactly they did it, since I thought the reason it was originally cut was because the person that sample is from didn't give permission and had a problem with it, but maybe they changed their mind?  Either way, thank you for making this available, as someone who can't be going to see their new updated sets!

Bookmarked! I want more of this!

I think he's re-doing and remaking (and improving) a lot of the older visuals. Expect more uploads!

Here's hoping that some of my favorite older songs will come back to the set - STTS, CWU, IBIA, maybe even Acid Children?

Acid Children did came back, but sort of as a cameo. It comes right before OOC/DIA

Oh, that's so sick!  Thanks for showing me, I wish I could see every new performance in full, because the way their set evolves is so fascinating, exciting, and awesome to me.  Can only really rely on random youtube uploads to keep me up to date  :D

Maybe it can return as a full segment soon?  Definitely my favorite of the EBW's that never got renamed and turned into an album song.
