They haven't played this in Lyon (will double check but I think they didn't), so I'm not sure it's a new one. They actually DID play it in Lyon, although it's very short, it's just a segue of 30 seconds in the middle of a techno track that doesn't sound very chemical. I'd put my money on an edit, like System of Survival and Lack of Love.

Life of Galileo club track
Being used in Life of Galileo, this is now 100% sure, that "Here come the drums" (I'm pretty sure it's not Here come the drums though) is a new Chems track, or at least a Tom Rowlands track.

It sounds kinda rough and unfinished doesn't it? Like something that wouldn't have been released by ...anyone. Which makes me think it might be a battle weapon or Tom edit. It doesn't (at the moment) sound like something that would land on a Chems album.
Incidentally, there's a difference between SOS and Lack of Love, i.e only the second one is really a Chemical edit. I'm tempted to think that African Survivor falls into this latter category.
Also, I know it's not a secret that Tom is the musical prime mover out of T&E but presumably they do still discuss what they're listening to with each other. As well as Ed mentioning Pazy & the Black Hippies on instagram, he also follows a playlist on spotify called Afro Disco (with 258 songs!). So perhaps the Brothers are having an "African" phase at the mo...

It's good to know that this track is alive. I really wanted it to be on the new album when hearing it for the first time back in 2013. And i was really upset that there were some tracks like 'Taste of Honey' on BITE (which were actually not quite good) and this one wasn't.

Yep. It ends with it too. Waaaaay slow though.
Maybe i'm just paranoid, but bassline from Eve of Destruction sounds similar to GKOMMH?
Yeah, it's a little bit different, but it's.. some kind, of, it looks similar, not only just by the sound.

I was listening to the Nuits Sonores set a little while ago and thinking about this.
The tracklisting on the forum facebook page goes:
0:11:34 Entschuldigung - C.O.N.
0:15:55 ID
0:17:20 Bolis Pupul - Teknow (Edit)
0:19:00 IDMy thought is that the re-edit of Bolis Pupil actually starts at 15.55. In other words, yes I agree that the loop is probably a Chemical addition. But my hunch is that it won't appear as a separate track, it's just part of the re-edit.
Also I would probably change the start time from 15.55 to 15.32. And I think the vocal noises from 19.00 to 19.30 are part of the Bolus Pupil re-edit too.
I've got to say, from what I've heard so far, I'm not a fan of Eve of Destruction if this indeed turns out to be a chems track.

I can kind of see why. The song's a total earworm for me (mostly because i dig old school house and disco vibes) but hearing the full Printworks video I was hoping it would build into a bigger track, I imagine they'll flesh it out more in the months or years to come, ik EML Ritual's been around since 2014, as with Reflexion being earlier

Dude, this is not a game!
Of all the tracks from Born in the Echoes that most foreshadowed their upcoming tunes, never expected Just Bang to be the one. I can really get down to Gotta Keep On Making Me High but Eve of Destruction and Free Yourself feel too much like Tom solo material.
I have a strong feeling they're doing something similar to 1996 and 2004 in the upcoming year, where they toured ahead of their albums and demoed new material, instead of supporting a released / very-soon-to-be released album. Considering they haven't dropped a whole lot of new material and quite a bit of it feels more Tom-solo oriented, but we'll see.

Agreed, this is easily my favourite of the three.
Quote from: WhiteNoise on Dec 11, 2017, 11:22but Eve of Destruction...
the 'busy' parts of this track remind me of Inner City's Good Life and Big Fun, although clearly the theme couldn't be more different.
Ignoring my suggestion elsewhere that it's a cover of the Barry Maguire song, thematically it reminds me of Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds (Eve of the war). I believe I bought the 12" Ben Liebrand remix of Eve Of The War "back in the day". And listening to it now at 49 seconds (https://youtu.be/mX2IQ0-zVgk?t=49s) it actually seems to borrow a bit of Inner City's Big Fun (https://youtu.be/Gr-zG-IXDyo?t=1s) (but turns the synths into 'strings'). Coincidence?
I have this image in my head of a musical theatre actress popping up on stage in torn clothing singing "we can't afford the water..." as though this was a new apocalyptic musical that Tom has got involved with. Anyway...the track is a bit frustrating insofar as every time it feels like it's going to take off, it breaks down to the bare bones. Needs a Skream remix.

and Free Yourself...
I like this one, - the cello/strings near the start and the way it takes off later on. But Diane's voice is quite harsh and repetitive. I wonder if it could benefit from being put lower in the mix or having reverb or something added to it. Just to soften things a little bit. She's 83 now btw, I wonder if she knows about this track.
To be honest, I ain't that excited by the new snippets I'm hearing. It's the club/dance 4x4 Chem Bros that's not really my favorite side of theirs. Where's the beats?!?!
This all feels like 2002–2003. In a good way.

I don't think there is any trouble because it's a) a non-commercial live recording and b) not yet officially a Chems tune. Rules about leaks should not apply here.

Yes it's been mentioned several times including the (updated) first post of this thread.
As I've said elsewhere, I think it's a re-recording/recreation rather than a direct sample.
My bet is that they used Replay Heaven like they did with SIFSD.

Sounds interesting but I'm not sure if I'd be a fan of this. Re-creating samples, hmm... well, less work and no royalties I guess..

I guess it depends on the sample. If someone tries to recreate James Brown's voice it's probably gonna sound silly. Mind you when I mentioned them HERE (https://forum.thechembase.com/index.php/topic,60.msg11849.html#msg11849) it related to Marvin Gaye. Although I suppose it wasn't necessarily meant to sound like Marvin Gaye.
Samples are so expensive, I wonder if we'll ever get another album like Endtroducing. Apparently there won't be another Paul's Boutique . From this 2011 article (https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20110414/03271513892/how-copyright-law-makes-sample-based-music-impossibly-expensive-if-you-want-to-do-it-legally.shtml):
Quotea lot of the samples on Paul's Boutique actually were clearedbut they were cleared at a time, 1989, when the industry didn't really see the value of sampling yet, so the rates for copyright clearances were much lower. Today, the rates they'd have to pay would make it impossible. Based on the number and type of samples in that record, Peter figured out that Capitol Records would lose 20 million dollars on a record that sold 2.5 million units.
If you look at Replay Heaven's Website (http://www.replayheaven.com/) you'll see a LOT of people are using them. In the case of Got To Keep On, I think I actually prefer the new vocals to Betty Wright's original vox on the above track.

Interesting. So maybe, as we've discussed before, Dissolve's interpolation of the guitar riff from Freeheat - 'The Two of Us' (Jesus and Mary Chain side project)

was outsourced through a similar process as well? Of course it could still be coincidence, though I'll admit I've yet to hear that guitar riff elsewhere.
Also, I would assume Tom and Ed would be more than capable of recreating something they wanted to sample, without sampling a song in it's natural form.
What would be the reason for outsourcing this? Wider degree of separation?Edit: As you guys alluded to, royalties most likely.

Yep. And they don't even need separation, they gave writing credits on BITE for SIFSD and have also given writing credit to Peter Brown (as per the SACEM thread) for Got To Keep On.

I think there's a difference between collaboration with say Beck or Aurora and needing some session vocals done. They haven't recorded in London since 2007 and I don't imagine there are too many session vocalists out in Lewes near the RAR studios. I guess if the third party can provide a profesional vocal, then why not? I imagine if they wanted to recreate synths/guitars they wouldn't need to use Replay Heaven.
I think I understand it.
I guess I would ask (which you might not know the answer to) do artists that get writing credits like Peter Brown and Kenny Bobien (SIFSD) still get payed for their original idea (which ultimately gets altered)? Or is this the music industries way of bypassing royalties altogether, but still crediting the original writer?
(hope that made sense)
Yes - it's like how Underworld had to credit / pay Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer for King of Snake since the bassline of that song was so similar to I Feel Love's, even though there was absolutely no sampling or conscious connection when Underworld wrote King of Snake. They pay out for that, but it's a small amount.
*However*, if Underworld had sampled the bassline of I Feel Love, they'd have to credit and pay Moroder / Summer for both the writing credit and performance credit. Writing and performance are treated as two separate things, and that would have been more expensive.
Basically, it's cheaper to re-perform something yourself, or hire a session musician to re-perform something for you, than it is to actually sample the thing because the cost of you doing it yourself (or one-time hiring a session musician to do it) is much cheaper than lifetime performance credit payments.
But... it's weird. And that whole writing/performance thing might only apply to radio music licencing, and I could be talking out my ass. It's weird.
So It's pretty much safe to say there will never, ever, be a recorded version of TPPR with 'Sympathy for the Devil' that gets formatted for distribution.

Actually, something interesting pertaining to this that you may find interesting is The Prodigy's track The Way It Is from their album Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. It is heavily based on a recreation of Michael Jackson's Thriller riff. How Liam avoided having to pay a huge royalty to Michael Jackson was to recreate the part of the track, with the help of Matt Robertson and Rinse, instead of sampling it. When you sample music, you need two clearances: one from the copyright owner of the song, which is usually a music publisher, and one from the copyright owner of the master tapes, which is usually a record company. By him recreating it instead of sampling the original song, he cut out those fees he would have to pay Michael Jackson, his publishers, and label. Michael Jackson may have sung and performed on the original recording, but actual the song was written by Rod Temperton thus Liam only had to pay him and him alone for his writing credit and no audio from the original recording was used. This way is a hell of lot cheaper compared to sampling a piece of audio and having to pay Jackson and all those involved with its creation and release.
Remember how the "Let's turn this thing electric" part was different in the promo copies of Do it Again ? I think it was a sample going "I'll sing the funk electric". It might be the first occurrence of the Chems recreating and altering a vocal sample

Taking a break from GKOMMH, I totally forgot this post about it. And in the same vibe I got from 'High', this track is such a stomper. Sweet baseline, great late 80's/ early 90's house vibe,
Terrorizing robot vocals, and something about water!
Not a fan yet of MAH, but starting to like FY more, due to those funky breaks in the middle of the track, which give it a little 'Base 6' feel.
I really like what this upcoming album is shaping up to! I feel as a whole, it can be good enough to sit next to Surrender and DYOH imo.

And album next year
Here comes the Coachella rumors...
I'm curious if the interest from both parties has wavered though. It will be the 20 Year anniversary of Coachella, and The Chemical Brothers were on the original lineup. So I don't know if that means anything...
The single North American date in Mexico this November is still super strange.

I'm still trying to figure out what the robot voice is saying! There's another voice in there singing 'gotta find a friend so let me be' Is that Aurora or another singer?
Do you mean the more robot male voice that raps a couple of verses 33seconds in after Aurora's robot voice says 'Eve of Destruction'? Can't understand all of it but sounds like in second verse of his the last 2 words are 'is justified' and the first verse is something rhymes like signified.

UPDATE on lyrics:
Just listened to it again and the last verse of the mysterious robot rapper is 'sacrifice is justified'

Eve Of Destruction here:

A well deserved bump from March! I now anticipate some changes when it gets played again on the 2019 tour.
My bad! See next post!
The Eve of Destruction... now shazamable...
Should be released quite soon. Album information on shazam is NO GEOGRAPHY.
Full album announcement with artwork and tracklist should be coming quite soon...
Nice work Orangewedge99.
and on that note, I tried shazaming the mystery tune from the Lauren Laverne show again, and it has a new match.
We've Got to Try - 'No Geography' - The Chemical Brothers
Edit: 'Gotta Keep On', not shazamble...
Woah really!? That's very cool detective work.
Well done, team.
ok lets see...
FY....sept 2018
MAH...early jan 2019
GTKO....late jan 2019
Album release is in April,so maybe a good chance that EVE is coming(predicting a mid march release!)

Regarding esports and online streamers...
::)
Guys, I like video games but the success of networked competitive gaming, and turning video games into a streaming event which then turns video game streaming hosts into celebrity, makes me sick. I suppose this is one of those "old man yells at cloud" moments...
Anyway... Yaah! New Track! Looks like Inchem was on the money on his prediction.
That's E Sports? I thought it was a nightclub! (I think this is the eye-roll you were looking for Bosco.)
Shouldn't this really be called the premiere-apart-from-the-times-the-chems-played-it-on-their-2017-DJ tour?
I'm not sure there's enough time for us Chems fans to rush to Poland in order to experience this sort-of-premiere tonight. But if it involves dancing in a big Tron grid it might be worth the effort.
Umm... You guys... I'm pretty sure my brother is there right now. I just messaged him. He's in Poland for a CS:GO tournament, which I think is the same thing.
The logo at the bottom by the Virgin one is for a team called Fnatic. They're a EU team. I know them from competitive League of Legends, where they reached the final of the World Championship last year (I know Bosco, I'm the problem).
I'm honestly pretty giddy at the connection. I've gotten really into eSports over the last year, following my team getting all the way to semis at the World Championship from a gauntlet run after we were knocked out of a spot in the summer split.
The Fnatic team, just for a little bit of largely unwanted information, are currently having a terrible time in the EU championship. They had, what many now consider, the best mid-laner in the world on their team, but he left to another team who has been completely stomping this split. So they're in the pits. And having lost the top performer (who I really enjoyed watching) I have to say it's been pretty fun seeing them loose. They have a super cocky team member who is always claiming he is a world champion and that he works harder than everyone else but then he shits the bed when it comes down to it. He's outclassed. Anywho, just a little aside.
What is it that makes you feel sick about people becoming popular as a result of their streaming personality, Bosco? I know there are a lot of pretty gross, mean, toxic people who unfortunately gain a following as a result of them streaming a popular game, but there's also a whole tonne of really talented, nice, entertaining streamers who provide hours of content for free (assuming you don't pay them anything, which I don't). I watch one of the guys on my favourite team, Cloud 9, stream almost every night. For multiple hours. He's fun. Super good at the game. And there's something about watching something in real time that feels super connecting for me. I don't know, maybe I'm just a boring loser. But I look forward to games every weekend, watch people stream throughout the week, and play the game when I have time at home. I think I said before, it's like being able to watch a match/game of your favourite sport, every hour. Basically non-stop if you really want.
Thems me thoughts anyway.
Pretty sure my brother is asleep but I'm trying to reach him to find out if he heard it.

If you like some street art. Theres a self proclaimed 'meme street artist' from OZ who takes the piss out of popular culture and internet culture whenever he can. He was invited by Banksy to contribute to his Dismaland exhibit. This pewdiepie guy who has a ridiculous amount of online popularity and is a gamer. This is what humanity's culture has come to.
just had to add one more.. Probably should've added it to the gaming thread instead of spamming it here.

The irony of a guy who calls himself a 'meme street artist' while "taking the piss" out of popular culture is not lost on me. And he's basically just giving Pewdiepie more publicity.
0/10 for execution.
So here is my review of No Geography. I thought i give it a couple of spins before, because, you know, sometimes you are not very into a record at first hearing but after listening to it several times it starts growing.
Small summary at the beginning: It has grown
What i have to say is that i review most of the tracks released around No Geography, including the Japan bonus tracks, the instrumentals from the 3LP version and the Free Yourself instrumental. Excludes are the Remixes, Neeeeum and the tracks from the Essential Mix.
Eve Of Destruction
Not a bad song, but also not their best "first track" (ok, it's hard to beat Leave Home, Block Rockin' Beats, Music:Response, Come With Us & Snow). I like the vocals of Aurora on this, and from what i've seen so far on the videos on youtube, Eve Of Destruction is a banger live (including those awesome visuals). What i definitely don't like are the vocals from Nene. Not that they are bad or this special part of the song is bad, but it doesn't fit into Eve Of Destruction - should have been a seperate track.
Bango
The transition from Eve Of Destruction to Bango is great, even though i'ts really simple. The track itself is also a nice listen, but far away from "the best track on the album" as some have said after those listening partys.
No Geography
This one is one the three songs on/from No Geography that i totally adore. Such a beautiful track, those vocal samples and this musical mix between modern electronic and big beat plus the transition from Bango - how can you not love this song? But i also have to agree with some of you => this should have been the last song on the album. A bit longer (not to long!) and track 10 - this could have been the final No Geography (album) had deserved.
Got To Keep On
From the released singles, this is the most "single" (except the video). I do like this, as song, as single, live (stunning visuals again), on the album - but it should have been replaced with another track...
Gravity Drops
The most discussed track on the album. I said before that it's not more than a b-side, but this is one of the "growers" on No Geography. Still not my favourite track, but i do enjoy listening to this (or, i won't skip it anymore).
Hi Kevin
So this is a masterpiece (even though there are still three tracks that i love more). The music, the vocals, the lenght, the everything. One thing: am i the only one who get some Hold Tight London vibes when listening to this?
We've Got To Try
Released as the last single (as by now) with an awesome video. Nice track, nothing more, nothing less. I think there are other songs from the No Geography era that you will talk about in 10 years.
Free Yourself
First single (best video from the No Geography era), released months before the release of No Geography. And maybe that is the point of this song. This one is really good (that breakbeat-part especially), but for now i can't listen to it anymore. If it would not have the transition into MAH, this would be my "skip track".
MAH
So here is Mad As Hell. That kicks butt. Best track on No Geography. Everything said.
Catch Me I'm Falling
The last 'regular' track on the album. In this version, i would love to have No Geography as an closer instead of Catch Me I'm Falling, but have no idea where it could find a place on the album if it wasn't the last track.
Fantai
The third one from "the three songs on/from No Geography that i totally adore". As you all know this is an alternative or remixed version of Got To Keep On. I understand why they've choosen Got To Keep On above Fantai for the album, but i don't understand why it is just a bonus track for just one country (nothing against you japanese people, i love you and your country). Instead it should have been released as a b-side or as an Electronic Battle Weapon (because it has this special EBW feeling) or both. Also i would count this as number 3 on a journey that started with Don't Think, travelled over C.H.E.M.I.C.A.L. and now takes a stop here. Don't ask me why, but in my opinion those three tracks could have been from the same writing session.
MAH (EBW Version)
See, MAH and Fantai => "best track" and "I understand why they've choosen Got To Keep On MAH above Fantai MAH (EBW Version)"
Got To Keep On (Extended)
As you may remember, above i've said Got To Keep On should have been replaced with another track - here is this track. It's nearly 2 minutes longer, and somehow now it has the proper lenght to get the attention on the album it deserves.
Hi Kevin (Instrumental)
Short verdict: as an instrumental it sounds funny, but it's the version with Aurora that gets the points.
Catch Me I'm Falling (Instrumental)
So this one is complicated. Withouth the vocal samples it sounds so pure, but also more grown up. If they had choosen the instrumental version as last track instead of the one with those vocals, this could have been the perfect ending for No Geography and i wouldn't say anymore that No Geography (song) should have been the last track.
Eve Of Destruction (Instrumental)
Nice listen, but i would follow up the one who said that it is interesting they've let the vocals from Nene in there. But as with the Hi Kevin instrumental, the album version with vocals gets the points.
Free Yourself (Instrumental)
Still wanna know where this came from. As for the song itself, i get the same feelings like with the vocaled version.
