Yeah, someone had mentioned that Prodigy was having US tour dates when Riot Fest was happening, so I purchased tickets on a whim. Luckily, even if Prodigy had not been added, I was going to have a blast at Riot Fest. I am really excited for Death, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, and Tenacious D.

I need to get on the ball and get my damn ticket.  Pretty sure I'm just going Sunday, but missing Quantic on Friday and The Roots on Saturday will hurt.

Will be the 4th time seeing The Chems in Chicago, another show at The Rivera would be preferred though.
Title: Re: 2015 - North Coast Music festival - chicago
Post by: Bosco on Jul 18, 2015, 19:03
We've discussed this before but The Riviera was the best. The energy, the sound, the large backdrop for the visuals.  It was bloody awesome.

Still need to get on a ticket, myself. Lets hope for good weather, a lot of major Chicago musical festivals have been very rainy lately.

Holy crap, Greyhound bus from Purdue to Chicago is $18.50.

I am there.

Edit: Anyone have a place for me to crash? Earliest bus back isn't till 7am. I mean I'll hang out at a bus station if I have to but a couch would be awesome.

If a friend of mine is going with me, I'm pretty sure I'll be partying all night (shit got bonkers the first North Coast).  If I'm going solo, I'll probably stay in a hostel.

Just saw on the North Coast website  you can buy a 4 pack for Sunday and get a 30% discount.  Turning  1 single day ticket from $85 a ticket  into $62.50.

I can cover 2 of the 4 tickets, anyone want to fill in the other 2 ?

Save some money and get some mint Chemy merch!

I'd say Yes, but I how would that work ?

The idea would be to collect money via paypal and pay as one.

But it doesn't matter now. Apparently, reduced single day 4-packs are no longer available on the ticket website... I will monitor this.

Hey, if you haven't gotten tickets yet you can use the promo code DONCMF and it'll get you 30% off any kind of ticket. Like $21 less for one day GA passes.

Seriously, if freaking Steve Aoki or whatever can get a set AND an after party, the closing headliner should get a goddamned encore.

Anybody know if this still works? I am thinking of getting a friend a ticket as a gift and would not mind spending a little less.

If it is still possible, where do I enter the code? I am not seeing a "PROMO CODE" box. This probably means it is no longer valid :(

Also, I wish I could get money back for my previous ticket purchases...

The promo code box is right under the Single Day VIP passes. No idea if code still works but it did for us, good luck!

I am glad it still works. Unfortunately, it is a huge slap in the face to those of us who purchased tickets out of good faith. Everyone should just get refunded a little bit.

Ticket sales must be really bad. They announced an age restriction of 17+ back when the lineup was announced and now all of a sudden its "ALL AGES"  :))

Sorry for those who got stuck paying full price.

For Friday/Sat, I will be hitting up Goose Island right before heading in. I remember when I went to see Beck at pitchfork, I was buying GI in the festival and going, "what kind of an idiot am I? Their brewpub is like 2 blocks away!" Don't even get me started on Bourbon County. Those asshats not only shorted Chicago last year, but they switched to 16.9 oz bottles instead of 11 oz 4 packs (even if the bottles are actually 12 oz, they basically leave the whole neck unfilled, as opposed to leaving an inch of space).

I cannot wait to see Steve Aoki LOL I am actually seeing D'Angelo though I do not know anything about him/them. Friday, I will probably see Wale and Widespread Panic. For Saturday, I am oddly excited for Booka Shade (I have a feeling I am thinking of another artist) and The Roots.

For Sunday, I want to see Atmosphere. The only time I have seen him was a super intimate venue, so my fear is that an outdoor festival will not be as good of a show. I think the Chemical Brothers are playing that day, but that band is sort of crappy. Like, my grandparents listened to them, or something.

Finally bought my 1 day pass.  $65.21 isn't too bad for a day at a festival headlined by The Chems.  Still sucks that nobody I know wants to go, so I'm going to have to drive by myself and figure out what the hell I'm doing after the fest.

But, fuck it.  All systems are a go go for the fourth time seeing them.

Title: Re: 2015 - North Coast Music festival - chicago
Post by: Bosco on Aug 17, 2015, 05:28
Yeah, I wont be able to make any after parties either. I saw High Contrast back at the Mid a few years ago and the place is pretty dinky.

The Goldfish/Auto Body after party is right next to the festival. So that's pretty convenient.

It would be flipping awesome to see a Tom Rowlands after party pop up... Then I would definitely go.
Title: Re: 2015 - North Coast Music festival - chicago
Post by: androidgeoff on Aug 17, 2015, 15:56
EDM Kiddies don't want to see Tom Rowlands spin. They want excitement. They want drops. They want confetti and cake.

That is why there will be a Tom Rowlands after party at my place. I have decks set up and Stella Artois (he seems like an Artois guy).
Title: Re: 2015 - North Coast Music festival - chicago
Post by: Born In Planet Dust on Aug 17, 2015, 16:05
who the hell is Goldfish/Autobody?

I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be exactly sober, so a set of (hopefully) acid house is sounding really appealing after the show.  Smart Bar is probably "Queen," which may be a great night, but I'm not going to be in the mood for disco.  Green Velvet seems like the best bet.  That is, if I haven't heard 'Coffee Pot" 4x already at the festival (this happened in 2010.  The guy who was before GV played it.  Then I saw Flying Lotus drop it for like 30 seconds.  Then I saw the end of GV...who closed with "Coffee Pot."  He then did an encore...a remix of...yep..."Coffee Pot").

Post by: WhiteNoise on Aug 17, 2015, 18:27
Goldfish is "Organic House" so, like, house music with all/mostly real instruments performed live. I dunno much else, they might be EDM with trumpets thrown on top, or a pleasant surprise.

Auto Body is fantastic though - they're on that electro-dance-rock-indie-synthpop spectrum. Like The Chemical Brothers meets Justice meets The Juan Maclean.  They're way better than average and their songs totally smash. Plus they do actually play live, it's not just them DJing their own tracks, but I don't know how far they take it.  Here's a few tracks by them, I Want You To Know is a proper banger:

https://soundcloud.com/autobodymusic/sets/too-late-for-words-ep

I'm 90% sure I'm going to this.

Title: Re: 2015 - North Coast Music festival - chicago
Post by: WhiteNoise on Aug 18, 2015, 19:24
Whoa, what?

If it's true I'm actually kinda excited. They'll have to cut one or two tracks (more if Tomorrow Never Knows starts at exactly 8:45), but that means we'll get a weird setlist with some different transitions / surprises! Speculating already...

Now we gotta plan about where and when we're meeting up. Def seeing Tycho but will be free after that.

They can't do anything about 10pm curfew but you've got a point there andygee - Little People could start 15 minutes earlier and everything would be sorted for a full 1:30 set!

Let's hope they do some cool different thing to make up for it.

I could relentlessly unleash my disappointment about this music festival (and believe me I want to), but I don't want to bum everyone out.

Instead, I'm going to just take a step back and remember my favorite musical group is going to put on a mind blowing show for me and my fellow forum friends.

Between this and the fuster cluck that was Bunburry this year, I am seriously ready for festivals to die.  That said, limited dates from an artist means they are more likely to play a fest than proper shows.  :(

Ugg I hope they decide to start the 773 stage acts 15 minutes earlier. The issue is the 312's (Chem Bros stage) proximity to the 773. They cannot have overlap. However, if they start 773's and 312's acts 15 minutes earlier, the Chemical Brothers can get an extra 15 minutes.

This whole schedule really irks me. Is this all a massive oversight? Is there a reason, such as X artist cannot get to the festival until Y time, which messed up the whole scheduling? I am a Krabby....

Y'all, what Bosco said! This is going to be a ruddy good time even with 15 minutes less! Literally if they came on stage and only played I'll See You There it would be worth it, it will wreck your brain live. And knowing from the Coachella 2011 bootleg they might even jam a lot harder to make up for the lost time.

BTW, I'm 110% going to the Goldfish / Auto Body aftershow. These two tracks by Goldfish convinced me, Moonwalk Away is near Pachanga Boys' Time level chill:

https://soundcloud.com/goldfishlive/goldfish-moonwalk-away

ZOMG guys - this is happening!  I was at the 2007 Chicago show and it was off the hook.  I remember even meeting Bosco.  So glad to see the community is still thriving.
Bosco exists in real life ? :o I thought he was a myth

Hmmm, I met quite a few people that day. I'm drawing a blank identifying by your user name.

I've graduated from being the turd with the neon green shirt, to the asshole that throws water bottles at girls that sit on guys shoulders.

You still have the shirt? We could go with a memorable framed tshirt, or a ceremonial burning on the bbq grill.

thrown water bottles at girls on guys shoulders......sounds like a good carnival game.

Good vibe I'm sensing for this show.

I got my Tascam working again! Let's do a live video stream of the concert by duct taping a smart phone and the Tascam to a cardboard cutout of Enjoyed's face on a stick. Will be perfect.

Ha! I wonder who's got the mug here for a good oversized cardboard head.
I vote for you WN!

yeah that shirt is long been retired (thank god). It's stowed away with all my other concert shirts in the back of my closet. 15 years down the line, I'll pull them out on a rainy day and tell my nieces and or nephews how I saw some cool shit.

Ah yes. ^ducks head^ I am still half finished on the Sonar one! I think I set the bar a bit too high with my Don't Think review... damn sophomore album review is the one that gets you.

To be perfectly honest, after pulling about two-three weeks with no sleep working on the ChemBase, and then travelling for five weeks by the seat of our pants, I got rather addicted to doing absolutely nothing my last month of summer. And it was GLORIOUS. But now that school has restarted and my ass is back in gear, you'll see a review up here... Eventually  :P

Oh, and one week later seeing The Prodigy at Riot Fest. WHAT A WEEK!

I  am very excited for my first Chemical Brother show this weekend! Does anyone have any advice where to watch the show from. It appears that standing dead center is the way to go. (As is most concerts) but I want to be in a spot where I can really take in the visuals the brothers throw down. My guess was like 10 to 20 rows back dead center. Thanks!

Honestly, I always hang back by the FoH (is that what they are even called outdoors?) sound guys. It gives a great view and has a nicer balance. Also, with earplugs, you can hear the intricacies more. Use earplugs!!!!!!

Last chem concert I was infront and I must say the sound was too over whelming and I didn't have earplugs s this time I'm going to choose somewhere back. Audio over visuals this time.
Title: Re: 2015 - North Coast Music festival - chicago
Post by: WhiteNoise on Sep 02, 2015, 02:19
Yeah, somewhat in front of the sound desk (FOH) is great for the sound balance and for seeing the whole light show. I got the whole upclose experience at Sonar so I'm def looking forward to seeing the whole show from a good spot.

I'll inform Mr. Errol. Yeah guys I'm looking forward to shaking hands with him and whatnot, if I can! I was super stuffy & awkward at first when emailing about the ChemBase since, well, I figured an email to management should be extremely nicely composed. But he was really relaxed and helpful with everything. I think an in-person meeting would be a lot less awkward.

Ha! I thought the sound was too soft last time 'round. And I was hanging close to the FoH. I think the bass might have been too low. I remember feeling throttled by 'Believe' back in the 2007 tour and even the 2011 Coachella show, but in 2010 it just didn't capture me. I know this because I took my brother to the show, who can be sensitive to sound at times, and forewarned him that "this could get loud." And it turned out really, "meh". He absolutely loved the show, however.

One of the issues I'm fairly certain we will run into, is the stage will be smaller than what the show actually needs.  I remember it looking very cramped on stage back in 2010. The silhouette of the gear and Tom and Ed, filled a lot of the screen in back of them.  And then the lighting above was fairly low hanging. It truly felt North Coast fest failed to catch the ambiance of a Chemical Brothers show.

Ok, enough of me bumming everyone out.

Temperature is going to be great this weekend. We're looking at 90+ degrees, with no rain in the forecast for Sunday. Be sure to stay hydrated throughout the day if you should get there early.

WE ARE THE LAST LEG OF THE SHORT US TOUR. SOMETHING SPECIAL MAYBE???!!!!!!!! OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have they been selling merchandise on this tour?

So due to 65 N being completely fucked south of Lafayette, it looks like my route will not be the standard 74 E from Cincinnati to 65 N to Chicago.   Looks like I'll now be taking 74 E all the way to Champaign, Illinois to 57 N to Chicago.  WTF Indiana?

Indiana highways that funnel to Chicago are always under construction. They get horribly weathered (especially in the winter time) and is abused by countless inbound/outbound semis.

Additionally, I would tack on expectation of at least an extra hour of driving. Midwesterner's love their labor day weekend, and it's gonna packed out there.

I am going all 3 days. If anybody else is, hit me up on the private message and we can meet up.

I am really excited for Widespread Panic tomorrow. I was hoping to make it to Wale, but I get out of work a little too late for him. Joe Russo's seems like my kind of early evening band. No Glitch Mob or Knife Part for me. Widespread should be a great crowd.

If I cannot make it for Wale, I will probably go to Salva. From the few snippets, it seems to be Future Bass. Wait IT'S A TRAP.

Saturday, I hope to get there in time for Booka Shade. Shpongle looks like a must see. If anything, it will be weird and fun. I can catch the last part of Chromeo, since everyone loves them apparently, while I listen to the Roots on the other stage and wait for D'Angelo.

Dude.  Don't miss on Friday Quantic (who is playing the same time as Dirty Dozen Brass Band, which is just cruel) or Dj Heather.  As for Saturday, Roy Davis Jr. overlaps with Chromeo (who I think is overrated) and The Roots (who you should not miss one second of because...duh).

The shootings are in very specific neighborhoods in Chicago. The media has a hard-on misrepresenting Chicago as if it is a giant war zone. It is a safe city, just don't go to places like Cabrini Green.

Day 1 was fun.
8 dollar Heineken is not.
The water station is a fucking joke. Little water fountains. Half of them were broken at 4 PM. Almost all were broken, I heard, towards the end.

Fucking around on water is irresponsible and potentially dangerous.  This seems to be a trend at festivals this summer...

As far as the Heineken goes...

Title: Re: 2015 - North Coast Music festival - chicago
Post by: androidgeoff on Sep 05, 2015, 16:28
Hard Fest had multiple stations with at least 16 high powered spouts that are like the water bottle refill spouts in offices/schools. Only until the later hours did the water become slow pouring.

That should be the standard. Seeing rusty water fountains with low water flow is quite embarrassing. It is as if they want people to be in danger, drug usage or not. It is HOT this weekend. If the Chems were not playing, I would not go to North Coast.

Title: Re: 2015 - North Coast Music festival - chicago
Post by: androidgeoff on Sep 05, 2015, 19:00
Yeah. I just always have 2-3 water bottles on me and do big fill ups every few hours to replenish all of them. Water is 2 dollars inside, 1 dollar outside (if you purchase from non-associates selling outside the festival). Liquor is not worth the price at all. I honestly did not see many people with drinks and not many people were going up to the imbibe areas. If the beer prices were 5 dollars, people would be flocking to it. I don't understand the decision to sell high priced beer when people can just sneak in liquor. If you have a reasonable price, a la selling Steam games at reduced prices, people are more willing to purchase it instead of illegally sneaking it in. Also, Goose Island's fulton brewpub is RIGHT THERE. Pitchfork has them serving beer, why not North Coast?

Alright gents and gents. Today is the day.

A review of Saturday:

Fucking Kiddie Kandi Krowd came out in full force. I was a curmudgeon until they all took whatever it was they took and got sucked into the 630 stage from 6:15 until the end of the night. Any "eh deh emmm omg" Kiddie trope you can think of, they showed it. Even if you had a good 6 feet between you and another person, they would just bump into the both of you while sarcastically (?) slurring "soooooorrryyyyyyyyyy," I don't know if it was actually sarcasm, I think they just have no empathy and think saying sorry absolves them of wrongdoing. Fuck it, that sounds awesome. I can be a dick and still not have any shame. They are doing it right. I have judged them all incorrectly my whole life. The standard of existence is...

EDM KANDI KIDDIE KOOL KOLLECTED KROWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jauz was like every other future house/dubstep/trap DJ. He talked a lot, would control the crowd, not with music, but constant reminders of "I WANT YOU TO SCREEEAM. 1 2 3 4!!!!" This is a tell tale sign that the DJ has no plans of using music to guide the crowd. But man... THE DROPS.  I LOVE DROPS. Eye drops. Pops, locks, and drops. When a spy gets a backstab on a med at 95% uber and makes him DROPS. Drops are my life and soul and without them, I would never be able to enjoy music. So, thank you Jauz for fulfilling my need for endless 32 beat buildups that go into DROPS. Breakdowns are cool, because I know that the end of them there will be a juicy drop waiting to reward me for my 5 months of EDM music listening.

After a good 20 minutes of Jauz, I went over to see The Main Squeeze. Instruments, singing, musicianship? What the fuck is that shit? Why would I want to watch a group that sounds like Led Zep, with a talented black singer, rock out and play enjoyable music when I could listen TO DROPS? I really enjoyed these guys. It was hot with the sun out, but I did not care, because this was a legitimate performance. I also got to touch the main singer when he walked through the crowd a few hours later. I GOT TO TOUCH WALE AND THE MAIN SQUEEZE. This means that I have to touch Tom, today, to make the trifecta (ERROL MAKE IT HAPPEN). The Triple Crown. The Coup d'Raisin D'extra. OK, maybe that is two beer names smushed together, but it still stands.

Booka Shade was great. I don't even have much to write since I just danced the whole time. Great flow and one of their synths sounded like the beginning of a SIFSD remix or something, so I got hyped. It did not end up being one.

We then went to Shpongle, who I was quite excited for. Weird, quirky, and with a nice ambiance, Shpongle seemed like the guy for me. I always wanted to marry for money, but I will settle on cool visuals, flange effects, and percussive beats. Unfortunately, I made it through about half an hour of his set before being completely unsettled at the amount of teenagers strung out and not in control. Basically, it was North Coast 2011 all over again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it when the demons come out and you get the little tiny men who suddenly start jumping up and down go "HOOO YEAAAH HERE WE GOOOOOO! I CAN DO ANYTHING WOOOOOOOOOOO" and you know they got something cut with something else.

Shpongle, I will just have to rewatch your live show on youtube. You can thank your fans for ruining yesterday. The debate is whether his fans were the sober or inebriated versions of their selves. It was at this point in the day where I missed Friday's crowd the most. BUT THIS WAS THE TIPPING POINT. I would not let the Kookie Krisp Kiddies ruin my day. There were hours left to go and they would probably peak and trough within an hour and head home for a night of posting on Instagram™. My decision was to follow and go to....

CHROMEO! I guess I thought Chromeo was another artist, because I was prepared for more DROPS. No, they were that Daft Punky group that I once heard. Chromeo nailed it perfectly. Aside from a good 4 or 5 minutes of trying to get the crowd to go on each other's shoulders to match some song of their's, there were few lulls. I have to give a lot of props to the two gentlemen on stage, they showed a lot of talent. I stayed for the whole set after hearing the end of Galactic/Macy Gray's. This was my favorite set of the whole weekend, so far.

Then, I had to check out Porter Robinson, as everyone is like, "he is the best EDM act ever." Here is a helpful hint: he is not. I felt the music was the equivalent to a cake with half its weight as frosting, topped with a 2 foot tall mound of cotton candy. "Wow, so much sugar, I love sugar!" at first, turning to, "I have diabetes, can we turn the sugar down?" Sugar is a metaphor for bass, in case you have the brain capacity of a King K. Rood EDM Kiddie.

I watched the second half of the Roots. I enjoyed it. Nothing spectacular or mind blowing, but it was a very fun show. They did a Mario Theme remix thing that was surprising. The drummer killed it. I got a good spot for watching D'Angelo. I was quite excited. It hit 8:46 PM, The Roots were about to finish their last song. The setup at the 312 stage looked complete. All was well.

Waiting.

Waiting.

9:05 pm. WHERE THE FUCK IS D'ANGELO?

I got dragged over to Aoki, because D'Angelo was super late. I had to watch Aoki. I was left with watching Aoki, because nobody wanted to check out Wave Racer and D'Angelo wasn't there. Aoki is a fucking joke. People have to be watching him ironically. That has to be the reason. Maybe the EDM Kiddies are smarter than I am? They might "get" something that I don't. Steve Aoli spent more time with gimmicks than music. Perhaps the gimmicks give them increased EDM Kred? WAIT. I FIGURED IT OUT....

It is 2002. Dub is becoming dubstep. Skream and Benga are rising in power. Their eloquence in the world of bassy grooves and tribal beats eschew the fact that 13 year olds should not be music stars. But, they become a great dub duo. The fans need to show their appreciation, but more importantly, their Kred. So how did one get Kred at this time? Which clubs you been to? When you go to them? You see so and so? You talk to so and so after their set?

Well, this Kred eventually became easy to acquire. As more artists and more clubs began dubbing it out, there were more opportunities to gain Kred. Kred became inflated. Kred became worthless. Everyone had a statistically similar amount of Kred. Kred needed to get away from its original standard. Now we move into Kred V2.

Kred V2, known simply as Kred, was based on what dubplates you heard. Fans scoured the clubs for the latest dubplates and dub rips. "I heard a Cloud 9 dub remix of the Kandy Land board game theme song. What have you heard recently?" "I heard a dubplate that was recorded onto the dubplate AS Mount Kimbie played it. HE BROUGHT A VINYL LATHE TO THE SHOW" Kred, at this point, rewarded the attentive, not just those who showed up. There was a second level of effort. But, as all types of currency goes, Kred eventually became inflated. People figured out how to cheat the system. "What if I make my own dubplates and play them to my friends at shows and we can all elevate our Kred, together?" Here we see the flaw in Kred V2. Over time, Kred V2 needed an overhaul.

This is where Kred V3, also known as Kred, ExKredsion, and SKreddex, comes in. Any time you scored a Kred with Kred V3, it was custom to shout, "Datsi-Kred added to my Kreddection!" This Kred was all about the drop. Now, one would think, if inflation was the issue of Kred V2, would the same flaw exist in Kred V3? Well, technically yes, but what if you use the flaw as the purpose for the Kred? Just like in World of Warcraft, use the carrot and stick to make people strive for the next level. It was all about getting millions of Kreds and having an intense competition where, if you miss one opportunity for Mad Kred™, you will lose your standings on the Totem Kred. The Totem Kred, made up of the heads of the Gods Of Drops (your Dropulous, I am not worthy to Kred in your presence), would update, live, as to who had the most Kred. The Totem Kred reached up to the atmosphere, so all could see. Kred V3 was highly successful. It lasted the most out of all Kreds. It survived for a good 6 years. This was the Golden Age of Kred. But, all Golden Ages must come to an end. Kred V3 became stale. It needed new life. The fear was a Kred Krash. Kred could not afford to go into a Kredession.

This is where Steve Aoki comes in.

An Asian man, with long hair and a moustache that is comprised of 2 irregularly long hairs, walks on stage. He has just awoken from a long booze-filled sleep. He has a slight headache and is having a difficult time figuring out what two circular spinny things are in front of him. Why are they separated by this thing with colors and twisty knobs? What does this big button that says MIC on it do? He presses it while saying, "woah!" He hears the "woah!" through the speakers, louder than he could possibly ever speak. "This is pretty cool! How are you doing CHICAGOOOOO?" The crowd reacts positively. This makes the man feel accomplished. He thinks to himself, "they cheered when I spoke. Therefore, that must be what I was born to do!" He talks to the crowd, their hands continue stretching up to the sky. No, it isn't the 5th installment of the Fantastic Four Box Office Bombs, it is the power of the one, the only....

STEVE AOLI

The Garlic of the Aoli is his impeccable need to have the Krowd scream and chant his own name. The Aoli Mayo is his Kreamy voice, Klipping through the speakers that Karress our not-hearing-protected Aoli-Listening-Kanals. And what about the YolkAoli? The true ingredient of the Aoli Experience? The Gimmicks™. Pictures, getting up on stage, dancing on the table that houses the box with the MIC button. You get to experience a man discover things as if he were an infant. And what is more rewarding than watching learning? Watching Steve Aoli learn basic human function. I am blessed to have gained a good 4 Kreds from watching Aoli. I can forever have these Kreds, knowing that I sat through The Gimmicks™.

Eventually D'Angelo came on and the set was cool, but I was pretty miffed about the last part of my night. Then I went home.

Btw the Trifecta in my Saturday review was achieved, although it was a Quadfecta.

Also for anyone who thought I was crazy, this was the drum sample I was talking about for Elektrobank:

https://youtu.be/Z0rVbB3Z_-o?t=82

Listen to the two drum samples behind the main one. There is first the panning hi hats drums and another drum that is basically one hit that is sometimes played at different half step pitch intervals. It is like a weird tambourine shake that is pitched down. Like di di didididididi di di

Now listen to Life Is Sweet Remix 1 from this point on
https://youtu.be/ueXTKK3Do9E?t=51

First the pitch shift drum hit comes in then the panning hi hats one along with the main elektrobank drums we all know and love. Once you get the pitch shift drum in your head you won't ever miss it in elektrobank.

Also, you were right White Noise, the Harpoon track I played you was this Harpoon (http://www.discogs.com/artist/62121-Harpoon)

SUMMER OF GODS!

Umm where the hell were you guys??? My phone died on me (I was obviously not prepared for this show) right after I sent that text in the group text. I was looking around to where to front of sound booth at 312 right when Atmosphere was almost getting done and didn't find any of you. I asked a random person who looked like Bosco that is he from the forums but he just gave me a weird look. I admit I didn't take enough time to look for you guys cuz I arrived like 30 minutes before the show and spent that time in the Heineken tent getting drunk before the show to techno and shirtless guys bumping into me. Also taking so many selfies with my crew.

So as Atmosphere was getting done with their mediocre performance Surrender to the void started playing. Lmao I kept shouting shut the fuck up towards the atmosphere stage. How rude of them to interrupt the gods of the summer like that. What can I say about the actual performance that hasn't been said before? I was luckily amongst some hippies and two couples infront of me who spent most time making out with each other and grinding on each other than blocking the view by needlessly recording the entire show. So I'm thankful for that. And the cloud of marijuana smoke that was around me was also pretty sweet. My clothes still reek of that. No complaints.

The lasers of HBHG are phenomenal. I kept reaching for them and reaching for them and reaching for them and finally I touched them ( or did I ?)  the smoke machine was being used abundantly to create and a magical atmosphere.
Do it again >> GO is really nice! They should have just extended GO and taken out DIA, there is no need to play that track now imo. That really woke the crowd up I think.
SIFSD made me dance for real and so did Chemical Beats. Chemical Beats really is my favorite track live, everytime I've heard it, it just kills it on the floor.there is no other chem song that sounds better than this masterpiece. I'll go far to say that it was the highlight of the set for me.
Star guitar is okay, I can live without it. and Saturate too, I'm over it.
Setting sun needs to be longer and the build up to that is awesome. I was singing along to it with a random dude and I think he might have put his arm around me during it cuz he thought we were sharing a genuine moment of brotherly love or some shit.
Sunshine Underground ( where are the bubbling water visuals????) and Escape velocity are simply amazing and I was loosing my shit at this moment. Still looking around to catch a glimpse of forum people but all I saw was a sea of stoned faces half smiling half confused and wondering how and why did they get there
Future,I'll see you there. OMG what an orgasm of synths and beats. This track live is chemical to the core and sounds like it should have been on dig your own hole. Love it!
the suddenly Believe comes in from nowhere almost like an uninvited guest but not unwelcomed (lmao does that make sense?) again the buildup is immense ( trying to use words other than awesome and amazing but that's what it was!) a group of us started shouting "woo" during it  but that soon died cuz you know buildup is like a minute and a half long ....
don't know when but somewhere in there robots showed up with their limbs missing.  LOL welcome to North Coast Music Festival with small ass stages guys!
I want that disco ball from block rockin beats in my room guys. How do I make it happen??

Again, its a bummer that I missed the forum meet up but I was looking around for you guys a lot and nobody looked familiar. But I'm sure yall had an awesome time!!!

here's me(right ) and my sister and cousin (pre glint picture. no known record of actual glint thanks to phone batteries)

we were towards the left in the frontish

Where do I start? Where do I begin?

Well, my adventure started out leaving my home at 5PM. Knowing Whitenoise was running behind in his schedule, we made plans for me to pick him up at his hostel. Timing was perfect because as I arrived in Chicago, I got confirmation that Whitenoise was ready for pickup. Our introduction was short and to the point, but as the night would go on you knew we would warm up to each other.

We drove a mile west to some free parking that I know about in the area. There was bass blaring in the distance as we walked a few blocks to the festival.  Our excitement was growing.

We reached the ticket gate where we resolved a ticket issue (I'm sure Whitenoise will go more into detail about this :P) and proceeded through the gates. Security was a joke, in a convenient way. But in result, it was a blazer's wet dream.  The whole festival was in a thick haze. (No problem with smoking w33d, just was hilariously prevalent.)

My first move was to get in touch with Androidgeoff. I had met him previously at the same exact festival to see the Chems back in 2010. We caught up, and he introduced his girlfriend and a friend he made earlier in the festival who had came all the way from Colombia, Jose.  We lingered about and caught a few acts, Portugal. The Man and then Tycho. Through this time I attempted to contact Chemreact aka Chemicalreaction to firm up a meeting spot for The Chems. Unfortunately, he had to some issues with his phone and we ultimately failed to meet up with him.

I departed Tycho on my own to check in on some merchandise and to hang around the 312 stage (main stage) to see if Tom, Adam, and Errol would make an early appearance. (I KNOW. STALKER/CREEPER ALERT! IM SORRY!!!) My intuition was correct, as I spotted Tom and Adam adjusting controls at the FoH (sound booth).  I briefly had a conversation with a guy from Taiwan. Tony (I believe), and this was his first Chemical Brother show. As I finished my chat with Tony, another person approached me, (must have overheard my previous conversation), Danelf84 ( again, if I remember correctly). We met previously at the Chicago Riviera Theater show in 07.  It was great knowing so many people where making the trip from out of country and out of state.

Androidgeoff found his way to me and I alluded him to our friends in the FoH. He garnered Tom's attention and got a wave back. And just as we turn Errol cruises past us. Again, like the unashamed twat he is (Cavs hat and all) Androidgeoff waves him down.  Errol makes mention how he wants to meetup with Whitenoise (not present at that certain moment), and tells us to hang around at the same area after the show.

The crowd thickens in anticipation for the Chemical Brothers, and Whitenoise, Androidgeoff's girlfriend and Jose reunite with us.

Junior Parker hums throughout the crowd as Atmosphere's set closes out. Whitenoise is at the ready, for well... I'll let him share that if he wants...

More Importantly I was ready! I couldn't wait to hear the new material that I've been depriving myself of. And then it  begins...

Hey Girl Hey Boy:  I love this as a starter. I think it does a better job than Galvanize as a crowd pumper. It put the crowd in a great mood with all the fog and lasers shooting everywhere.

EML Ritual:  another perfectly placed track. What a freaking awesome visual. Such a wicked track live.

Do It Again:  man, I dislike this song as a stand alone studio track, but the live version gets me everytime. Loved the retouch on the visuals. The outlining of the dancing figures are more static looking.

Go: did not play out how I thought it would. Apparently it starts with the Edge of Control Dub version, which I haven't familiarized myself with enough yet, and I found it a little off putting, but OMG the way Go finishes.... HOLY FUCK!!!!  that was amazing. I will be playing that over and over on youtube for sure.

Swoon: a crowd pleaser for sure. All the youngins sneaking in their little makeout sessions on this one. Did they round off the ending of this song. It didn't seem as strong of a segue into Star Guitar that I remember.

Star Guitar: This is my Jam. I always show up for my song. I'm like the conductor, playing the air drums shooting air synths. I cannot be contained. Thank you for continually playing this. Fantastic new version.

Sometimes I Feel So Deserted: The visual reminds me of the claymation music video from the band Tool, that I saw at too young of an age. Freaky. The song doesn't do much for me even in live setting unfortunately. I did like the progressive teasing of Chemical Beats.

Chemical Beats/Acidchildren: When is Chemical Beats a bad idea? NEVER! DAT BASS!!!!!!!!!!!!! And then that incredible segue to Acidchildren with the House nation vocal! Which leads into...

Setting Sun/Out of Control: Man this is bloody brilliant! Fuck me this is awesome. I totally thought they skipped Out of Control until after the set Whitenoise corrected me and said they played it with Setting Sun. This is a keeper for sure!

Saturate: This song will always remind me of Ed. The crowd loves the playful nature of this track. Paint balls are fun. Was totally shocked it didn't lead into Believe!

Elektrobank: HAHA oh wow. So many OMG's on this one. Welcome back Elektrobank! How I love thee!

I'll See You There: Well, if they didn't own your soul before this point of the show, they raped you here.  My face, it's MELLLLLLTTTTTTINNNNNNGGGG!!!!!! What absolutely mental visuals!

Believe: Never leave me you beautiful build! YOU'RE ALL MY CHILDREN NOW!!!! WOOOOSHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Sunshine Underground:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQCQRLA05AA

Escape Velocity: Back to back epics, my god! Golden Path Lyrics are awesome within this beast! Whitenoise geeking out next to me!  :))

Don't Think/Under The Influence:  Well this is the robots everyone has an avatar of! Oh wow, like they couldn't give us more to this point. My goodness. The best version of Under the Influence, hands down! Crowd went nuts! And yes, I did pass the acid test.

Galvanize/Music: Response: Oh that visual! Oh that live version! Oh that Music: Response tease!

Block Rockin' Beats: Gliterball beats are gonna work it out. I wish they would finish on a different note, but how can I complain the crowd ate it up!

I haven't been this active at a concert in some time. The new tracks were spectacularly awesome, particularly "Go" and "I'll See You There". After the night we just had it's gonna be extremely difficult to wait out for another visit in Chicago. I'm salivating for more already.

We did are partings with the various people we met along the night. And collected together as a forum unit. There was an added unfamiliar face in our group, which I would find out is Mr. Cincinnati, Born in Planet Dust! He had a Trainspotting moment, which I'll let him share if he should feel like divulging... :))

And then there was Life Is Sweet (Remix 2) part of the night...

Yeah, the stage was tiny, again. This was the same problem we encountered in 2010.  Ultimately, it works  fine for where our group was watching the show. But if you have seen them previously in a more expansive environment, it feels limited.
