Out of nowhere, a new
proper video for SIFSD
Wow.
That is some Tetsuo level darkness going on there. I am massively impressed.
Who directed it? I can't find any information on it.
I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's weird, but it's a bit too empty and too short. At least it's better than the video for Go I guess :))
A postapocalyptic Sci-Fi/Horror short film as a Chems video, who would've expected that.
I like it ;D
What the hell i just watched?
video really departure O:-)
Too crazy ;D
This video is perfectly open-ended. And dear God it's a fantastic fit to the song. Her screaming synced with the synth squelches. The uncomfortable darkness of it all (for me) matches the simply dirty and minimal, teasing drive of the tune. The video leaves you wanting more answers as much as the song leaves you wanting another drop or a bigger beat.
This might actually be one of their best videos of all time. Groundbreaking.
FAN THEORY: The people in the truck are the "good guys", and the injured machine woman and man are the antagonists. The woman/man are violent experiments-gone-wrong, maybe engineered super soldiers that turned against their designers, killing nearly all of them and destroying the hidden desert research base where they were created in the process. The ragtag team in the van is a mix of scientists and security detail for the research base, who survived their initial escape. They may be the only ones alive who know about the danger the machine people pose. They did their best to destroy them all but failed to eliminate these two. They're combing the desert, trying to hunt them down and kill them before they wreak havoc on the rest of the humanity in revenge for turning them into an abomination.
And Tame Impala just released a video for Let It Happen, today too. Do they have the same marketing plan or what ? ;D
Incredible video. BLOWN AWAY. :music
Whoa. That was weird. A good weird, but weird.
Why the fuck are we Germans always left out???!!! I always have to do a workaround to watch those videos, damn GEMA!

What did I just watch? :o

Agreed. (I'm getting some Mad Max feels from this.)

Don't agree. Van guys look bad to me. But you may be right about them dealing with experimental creatures manufactured by humans. Oily woman has my heart (but she can't have my legs!).
Makes me think of recent uk Channel 4 series "Humans" . About AI "synths" some of whom have feelings/memories, and how they are treated by actual humans. Some treat them badly, others don't. Dilemmas/morals n stuff...
Two thump ups.

Empty as in 'deserted'? In a desert?
I wonder what is next. An Under Neon Lights video about a zombie pondering over social paradigms of having no husband nor wife and eventually considering suicide?

It's funny how most people usually automatically think of good/bad or protagonist/antagonist in a narrative. Sure, a lot of stories work that way, but many of my favourite works of fiction have facetted characters who are "real" people, with good or bad depending on from whose perspective the story is told* (Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones is probably the most popular example).
I think the video plays with this as well, with the woman changing from injured, hunted prey to malicious predator. The Van Guys first look like cold, determined hitman, but once the woman repairs herself fear is written in their eyes.
Damn, this really is a fantastic video.
*There is a book called "The Last Ringbearer", which flips the narrative of Lord of the Rings. It's premise is that Tolkien's LOTR is basically propaganda from the winning side of the ring wars, where the opponents are deliberately depicted as evil lords and violent, mindless monsters. Unfortunately I haven't read it yet, but I've heard it's a great example of basically the same story being told from a completely different perspective. There's definitely a real aspect to it, too, since having an "other side" (and then dehumanizing it) is a necessary precondition for large-scale organized violence such as wars. Sadly it has been successfully employed countless times, and still is, in humanity's history.
What a weird video! Zombie/apocalyptic, very dark and unsettling. The editing was great (especially that bit with the screeching synth and the girl yelling across the desert.) I'm not sure what to make of it yet. But I know one thing and that is I like this video more than Go!

Fair point. And thinking about the "Figure It Out" video which I embedded in an earlier post, that's kind of what that is about. The woman at first appears to be a blood soaked psycho scaring the crap out of people in a mall, but then it turns out she was the victim of a kidnap and is trying to escape. I may have to watch some more of
Mr (!) Ninian Doff's videos to see if it's a recurring theme.
I hate to be the asshole here, but come on. Oil woman is doused in oil. A stroke of a match ends this.
Most unexpected, indeed.
Instantly got a Mad Max vibe about it except this one's in a blue filter not a yellow like the movie. The hyper quick movements, apocalyptic recycling scraps to survive, oil etc and in the desert.
As soon as I saw it I thought oh.. Dom and Nic must've done this one ha. but not so. Nice to see they've given a new guy a go.
I like it and yes better than Go. I think Go just had a lot of expectation because it was the introduction to them back since last album etc. and the fact that this one came out of the blue with a shock in a good way is a good thing.
Go had a lot of expectation because it was friggin Gondry doing the music video.

and the gap between reality and expectation was too high. I think in psychology that gap is called disappointment.
i really really really really really really like this
doesn't make the song any better but this video is both thumps up

Pretending that I don't like it makes it more taboo to me. Increasing the guilty pleasure. This is very intentional.

The video made I09's main page. It's a pretty cool sci-fi/pop culture site.
I almost put this under Chemical Spotting, but since it has its own thread...
Love the video. Good job.
The only words I can find to describe this video are : weird as fuck.
I mean, REALLY ?
I enjoyed it in all its weirdness :)
I saw a 'censored' version of this at my gym it was really bad looked like it was edited in 20min. they basically have the girl crawling on the ground and guys in the car in slow motion for most of the song and repeat it to block out the should we say controversial moments some might think.
You're almost waiting for EML Ritual to kick in after it finishes cause it would fit well for continuity. hope it does to keep the story going.
