The show is a retrospective of their  career. They're choosing all the music and they'll be playing old session tracks etc.

Then,  in the final hour,  BRAND NEW MIX!!

Three hour mix I bet not. I would shit my pants for a live session, but again... probably not, considering their live show philosophy. If we're lucky, I think it'll be like their XFM show, with Laverne in the room too. Probably some interviews, with a confirmation of a 2016 tour (fingers crossed), discussion on how the South America shows went, maybe some talk about Ed's absence, whatever they are willing to reveal. And a chance for a DJ set at the end, maybe the last hour. They'd want to make listeners wait so they're tuned in to the whole show.

But I have a feeling they're not even going to be there for the full three hours. It's going to be Laverne doing a her show about whatever the hell for an hour or two, and the Chems will come on for a interview and stick around for maybe 20 minutes maximum. Tom and Ed will want to be home for Christmas, so the interview is probably pre-recorded too, maybe even over the phone. She'll play Wide Open or some track everyone's heard before, pretend to talk to them "live" for a little bit, then back to her all purpose Christmas special. Still a good chance to hear them say stuff and talk about things, which is great fun and all, but nothing actually special.

Which is totally a missed opportunity, because I can't imagine many people will be spending their Christmas evenings listening to BBC 6Music, instead of, you know, being with family... So they could easily get away with a pounding and self-indulgent Chemical Christmas set.

I have a headache and it is making me cynical.

Ah come on - where's your festive spirit?  In the quiet times we long for something like this, even a tiny bit...   And with the likes of iPlayer you can still enjoy turkey and parlour games with the folks...

As for listening to radio at Christmas - I still recall hearing Radio 1 playing the bulk of the Glasto set on (I think) Boxing Day 2007, from the start, including Burst Generator. Driving back somewhere, big surprise when it came on, and still unable to get a copy from anywhere...

Just hearing the ad for it. They talking about their past, their music, remixes, collaborations and live stuff, about the forum, they ban the champagne spiller, letting Toms hair grow back and they made the 30min mix.

Quote

6 Music's Chemical Christmas

On this most festive of day's, what better than to be joined by Ed and Tom AKA The Chemical Brothers who chat to Lauren for 3 hours, picking some of their favourite tracks, and some choice tales their over 20 years plus together. From their early days at Uni, to playing Heavenly Social, their Radio 1 Evening Session mix, their relationship with Glastonbury, wanting to work with Bob Dylan, searching for absconding rappers, and catching the attention of mullet-based rock demi-gods. They've done it all. And as a gift to the listeners, Tom and Ed have made an exclusive and unique mix for the show - The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present & Future.

I bet it's going to be a 3 hour live cooking show revolving around the special Steve Dub Jerk Chicken recipe with some music discussed alongside the cuisine procedure. Here's the complete show => https://www.sendspace.com/filegroup/Nqhs2H0Zqjng1Y%2B%2Bv9a7awY7JNk4r0eD

Here is the complete broadcast as mirror on uploaded => http://uploaded.net/file/y4w8kfd6 (but i don't think this works quiet well because testing the link says that i need premium membership to download)

I've uploaded both on my OneDrive, but i don't know how Microsoft acts in legal questions if i post the link in public - and i don't want Microsoft to close my OneDrive, or more horrible, cancels my complete Microsoft account which i'm using for mostly everything digital (pc, tablet, phone, xbox, onedrive, skype etc)

So the Beth Orton/Chemical Brothers cover of Tim Buckley's I Never Asked to Be Your Mountain was happening for a time being.

Here is the thing, I think part of the instrumental is not lost.

In Tom's Psyktronic mix (at like 17 mins in), there is a similar part here: https://youtu.be/MGiNr1bctzw?t=80

Ok, it's dumbass time:  I've downloaded No's 1 & 2 of the three available for the complete show on Sendspace. But they won't allow me to right click and EXTRACT the files. Out of frustration I tried just double clicking which gives me a message "Windows can't open this file". It doesn't even try to default to Windows Media Player (which it usually would do if I foolishly double click a zipped music file).  What am I doing wrong?
Incidentally these dont look like the usual zipped yellow/brown folders, just a white square (one plain white, one with an orange dot or square in the middle)

I guess theyhad this thing in the can on or by 8th December. A little reference to the first track of the mix here:

Ok, it's dumbass time:  I've downloaded No's 1 & 2 of the three available for the complete show on Sendspace.
For the whole show you need to download all three parts. Sendspace hasn't allowed me to upload files larger than 400mb so I had to split them. Only the minimix is one file.

Ok. That occurred to me after my comments above. I now have all three parts in my Downloads. None of them look like normal or zipped files.
So, now what?

Put all three in the same folder, then choose the .oo1 file to unpack - normally the program you unzip with (even the ones build into your os) recognise the other two parts and extracts the complete mp3

There are two things I learned from the 30 minute mix from last Christmas.
1: Paul McCartney didn't sue TLC for borrowing from his Waterfalls track, but he probably could have.
2: I don't know what the track before "System of Survival" is.

Ok so the second one isn't really learning....yet. But if anyone knows, please advise.
Any other comments on this tracklisting would be good too (helpful comments that is - before ya'll take the piss)

Chemical Christmas 2015: 30 Minute Mix
A Christmas Carol film dialogue
Going Back To My Roots - Richie Havens
Bush Beat (re-edit) - Prince Charles & The City Beat Band (feat. A Christmas Carol dialogue, LL Cool J "Feel the Beat" and New Order "Confusion" acapellas)
Bostich - Yellow
?? - ?? (feat. brief Waterfalls acapella - Paul McCartney)
System of Survival - Earth Wind & Fire (Chemical re-edit/mix I reckon, same as on Beats One mix)
Waterfalls - Paul McCartney
Last Train To Trancentral (film version) - KLF
Kingdom Of Rust (unreleased Chemical Bros remix) - Doves
Sound & Vision - David Bowie

I'm guessing the Tom Rowlands remix of Kingdom of Rust never appeared anywhere? Give my left gonad for copy of that.

Hi and welcome!
That seems to be the case, yes. Maybe there's one lucky DJ out there where this thing's hiding behind a sofa or something.

I'd like a copy of it too because it's so great.

I'm listening to KLF's Chill Out album right now and there seem to be all the parts that are used in the Christmas special, even though the tracklist says Last Train to Trancentral. Did the Chems just edit the ones on Chill Out and stitch them together for their mix?

Doves have been guests on Radcliffe and Maconie's show on 6 Music the other day, but they haven't said a word about an official release of the Brothers remix

Stumbled across this thing today in my music files. I'm not sure I had listened to all 2.5 hours of the program that preceeds the 30 minute mix.

Some thoughts that occurred to me today:
1) I Never Asked To Be Your Mountain by Tim Buckley gets played. Tom mentions that there's an unreleased cover version of the song that they did with Beth Orton ("It might stay unreleased!").
Ed: Is it on tape?
Tom: It's on cassette tape...no, I think Ive got it actually...it's a good 'un.

2) Kraftwerk's Numbers gets played. Well, OK it's no secret that the Chems like Kraftwerk, I think they both went to see Kraftwerk at London's Royal Festival Hall the last time they played. But this particular track choice perhaps reinforces my guess that "Krafty - Numbers" mentioned in this thread (https://forum.thechembase.com/index.php/topic,1043.msg18193.html#msg18193) is probably the Kraftwerk track.

3) The United States of America - The Garden Of Earthly Delights has some psychedelic laughter at the beginning of the track. I'm not saying it has been sampled, but it did make me wonder if it was inspiration for the MAH laughter.

This?

Well yes I know it's released NOW! It's fun to hear them talk about it THEN.

Oh also re that United States of America track, not one of the Youtube uploads I have listened to has the laughter at the beginning of the track. Just the version played on the radio show. So if anyone jumps on Youtube to listen to the track you won't hear what I'm referring to.

EDIT
Also listen to the sounds at 35.04. Do these sound familiar?

Well, I suspected it and was in doubt to send a message or not. ::)
