Title: Chemical Fonts
Post by: Enjoyed on Oct 28, 2016, 22:55
Hey

You're all super clever.
Help me pin down what the fonts are that are used for each album's title (and tracklist), would ya?

Exit Planet Dust:
Sho Roman (variation) / Update: Helvetica LT Std Ultra Compressed / Barmeno

Dig Your Own Hole:
Sho Roman (variation) / Update: Univers LT Std 45 Light

Surrender:
Update: Clarendon Light

Come With Us:
Egyptienne MN Bold Condensed

Push The Button:
Designed by Tappin Gofton / Update: Courier Sans

We Are The Night:
Typewriter Gothic

Further:
Vitesse Medium

Born In The Echoes:
Helvetic Neue 65 Medium

No Geography:
GT Pressura Mono (but with a very slightly different lower care 'r') / update: Plak Black Extra Condensed

For That Beautiful Feeling:
Daikon Semi Bold

For Further, Vitesse Medium is what you're looking for: http://www.typography.com/fonts/vitesse/styles/
Monotype's Soho is exceptionally close: https://www.fonts.com/font/monotype/soho

PTB era's copy font is Andale Mono (99% sure): https://www.fonts.com/font/monotype/andale-mono

I don't know about Surrender / Exit / Dig liner notes fonts. They've got forums where people sit around and identify them and you'd have good luck there!

Whacha working on if you don't mind me asking?

Awesome! Thank you. Vitesse is very yummy.

I was just staring lovingly at the back of Come With Us and decided I wanted to build my collection of Chemical fonts.
I'm pretty desperate for the Surrender font. I guess I'll have to try one of those forums...

I don't think it is actually. It's more rounded. Like somewhere between Andale Mono and Spot Mono (http://www.schick-toikka.com/spot-mono).

For Exit Planet Dust the condensed/compressed font is "Helvetica LT Std Ultra Compressed.

Plain text for Exit Planet Dust is "Barmeno" (http://www.myfonts.com/search/Barmeno/)

For DYOH the plain text font is "Univers LT Std 45 Light". I thought it wasn't the right font because the "'" in rockin' is straight in all of the font preview websites. I have this font and when i typed it in Photoshop, it looked exactly the same :)

Think we're all done now.

I have them all downloaded now too if anyone wants...

It's almost there, Toxic! Ask them if they could customize it for you by putting their signature "S" at the end and replace their "k" with a "p"!

New album. New font!

The closest match I've found for the 'No Geography' title is Mittelschrift Austria D, but it's not exactly the same. On the cover the edges are rounded and the a is not the same as in the Mittelschrift font. It's super close though.

Also, Mittelschrift is designed by URW. The same folks behind Clarendon, used for Surrender, and Egyptienne, used for Come With Us. I'm still digging, but that's as close as I've got so far.

It is so, so, so close to GT Pressura Mono. Huge thanks to Identifont's "search for fonts similar" feature.

Except for the lowercase r. On the cover, the r curves down at the end, in GT Pressura Mono the r stops short horizontally.

Right!? I don't see why they would edit just one letter like that.

It really is 99% identical though. Good work! I didn't try Identifont because I was using the picture matching but that was clearly a better idea! Going to look for it now :D

We could possibly just use the lowercase r from Typewriter Gothic, and GT Pressura Mono for all the other characters... such a bother.

And make it bold or add a stroke to get it the same weight. I say just stick with the slightly more complete 'r'!

Mittelschrift Austria D
I fully endorse this font on a Chemical work.

Update: it actually is GT Pressura Mono Regular exactly 100%.

It showed me the non-mono font in preview without me realizing it. The non-mono font has the shorter r, but the Mono font is a perfect match:

The 'r' is still shorter. It's only by a little, but it's definitely been cut off a little.

So I'm sticking with 99% GT Pressura Mono!

Welp. Just over 3 years later, and I do have an answer for you!

It's Plak Black Extra Condensed (https://www.linotype.com/13461/plak-black-extra-condensed-product.html). I'll update the pinned top comment too for records sake.

I wonder if we'll get a new font for NOT FINAL ARTWORK?

Are we talking about the font used for 'No Reason'?

Looks closer to Realtime Text Rounded Semibold to me:

no, "not final artwork".

though, now that I look closer, the 't' appears a little off.

It actually looks like GT Pressura again, carried over from No Geography:
