My version of a...

Greek Salad:

• a bed of chopped romaine lettuce
• peeled and quartered cucumber
• sliced cherub tomatoes
• thinly sliced red onion
• sliced Kalamata olives
• sliced fresh green bell pepper
• sliced pickled pepperoncini pepper
• crumbled feta cheese
• dried oregano
• cracked sea salt (very little)

- cover and let rest for at least 15 minutes to let flavors mingle -

Finish with...

• Olive Oil and Vinegar salad dressing
• small squeeze of lemon juice (optional)

Looks like a delicious, refreshing meal for a hot summer day!

I made Coconut-Peanutbutter-Banana-Curry today, one of my favourite dishes.Doesn't look that pretty but it's a super savoury and hearty comfort food.

Screenshot 2023-06-09 145413.png

I don't really have a receipe since I usually make it on the fly but it's something like this:

You can also add some vegetables like carrots or edamame beans. If you want to add some meat, I'm sure chicken or shrimp will go great with it.

I would totally be down for that Stefan, save me a dish!

Also, I should add detail about this thread that it wasn't just to be about cooking. It's mainly a 'What Are You Eating/Drinking?' thread. " What's Cookin' "was just a fun title. I only posted a recipe/directions for my salad to fill the first post of the thread...

Anyways, I figured it would be fun to see what everyone is munching or sipping on, around the world within our own community. Maybe we'll learn a thing or two about food or drink or perhaps open some other conversations about culture.

Did you order some fast-food from your favorite local place that you love? let's see it. Are you drinking a morning coffee/espresso or a mid day tea? let's see it.

(I have a very strong opinion that creamy peanut butter is always the right choice)

I agree with enjoyed...but only cause any amount of peanut butter will literally kill me (oh allergies....)

But what's the point of mushing them, then? If I want something crunchy I'll just eat peanuts.

It's the best of both worlds. You can spread peanuts onto an apple, or toast. But you can spread mushed up peanuts WITH DELICIOUS CHUNKY BITS!

Since it's blazing summer, here's a delicious ice cream combination that is totally a thing in Austria:
Vanilla Ice with Pumpkin Seed Oil.

We have a pumpkin spice craze in the United States that I'll never understand. It first started as seasonal thing (autumn) but has become popular enough where you can find food/drink products that include it year round.

I don't think I've ever had pumpkin seed oil, but  I love me some vanilla ice cream!

Haha the Pumpkin Spice craze is also (slowly) adapted here in Austria, and I'm all for it.

Pumpkin seed oil tastes completely different though, I'd say it doesn't even taste very pumpkin-y and nothing like pumpkin spice, it's a very distinct but totally different flavour. Here in Austria, it's most commonly used as salad dressing (it tastes great together with balsamic vinegar) or as garnish in some cream soups but more creative uses (like for instance, on ice cream, or in cake dough) are also not that rare.

Oh yeah, vanilla ice cream is amazing. I don't know why vanilla is often used as a synonym for bland or boring, because the spice is fantastic.

Pumpkin Spice Special K is one of the greatest things that has ever existed.

I'm extremely impatiently awaiting their return this Autumn.

Somehow I've never tasted "pumpkin spice", but if it tastes like Pumpkin then I'm not in a rush.
Anyway following on from random discussion on this subject, I came across this...

Have you ever had cinnamon and nutmeg? Then you've tasted pumpkin spice.

I'm visiting Chicago in a few weeks and will definitely be getting a diabetes cup from Dunkin'. Probably not the 20oz though, that does seem a tad irresponsible.

It's actually really good for my body that Dunkin' doesn't exist in the PNW.

Well, Pumpkin Spice itself is a blend of certain spices and originally never contained pumpkin, so the the spice itself doesn't taste like it. It just goes great with pretty much any pumpkin dish. And coffee, for that matter.
But yes, the amount of sugar in this milkshake is insane. It reminds me of this scene from Parcs and Rec:

Going to the grocery store tomorrow, what does everyone need?

This is one of the most international friendly grocery stores in my area, and its main focus is covering "The Silk Road" type imported goods. They also feature some imported Brazilian, German, Polish, Lithuanian, and Japanese goods, along with a plentiful amount of locally manufactured Mexican brands (we have a healthy Mexican populous in Chicagoland).

Take a gander, anything stick out to y'all?

Going to the slide with all the brewery - personally i would prever Becks over Warsteiner.

Uff, so many choices!

Well, I'd get whatever piques your culinary curiosity and try out something new :D

If you would like to get to know what real bread tastes like, I'd definitely go for the Polish and German loafs. Try it fresh or toasted with a good spread of butter, there's nothing quite like it.
Also, being a fan of the Asian style cuisine, I'd get me some of the Kikkoman Soy sauce, some rice noodles, Peanut butter or better yet, Sesame paste (Tahini), oyster sauce, ginger, garlic and some fresh vegtables like carrots, soybean sprouts and something like Pak Choi (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e3/Baby_Pak_Choi_%2801%29.JPG/1280px-Baby_Pak_Choi_%2801%29.JPG). But I don't know whether they carry any of those additional ingredients.

From the available options in your images, I also can recommend - of course - Pelmeni! These are meat (pork I assume for the Sibirian one) stuffed little dumplings that go well with some form of sour cream or créme fraiche. I personally love to eat them simply with a good dip of Sweet Chili Chicken sauce (which may be a sacrilege to natives).

Then seafood-wise, there are some nice selections there. I'd go for the salmon, the Riga Sprouts in oil and that Pollock filets and some good portion of Basmati rice (although, 10lbs is a bit much ;) ).

Also, we like that Russian/ Georgia style Eggplant Caviar sauce (don't know this very brand though) with our noodles every now and then instead of the ordinary tomato sauce/ ketchup combo.

The meats look tasty as well. Especially that Tenderloin seems like a pretty good deal. What's the "Gov't insp" mean by the way? Some sort of subsidy?

Veggie-wise: That price for the butternut Squash is insane! Go get yourself two or three and make a soup or fry slices in a pan with salt and rosemary!
The Korean reddish looks also pretty interesting.

A dish we love to cook at home involving Green Cabbage is called Krautnudeln ("cabbage-noodles"):
- Cut the cabbage in fine strips
- One or two onions, cut into little chunks and sweat them in a pan together with the cabbage until glazed, preferably in lard or fat bacon
- Cut a hard-type of sausage like Salami into cubes/ eatable chunks and fry them in a separate pan
- Put everything together and spice it with a good pinch of salt, pepper, and a tiny bit of sugar and, most importantly, a pinch of caraway seeds
- Cook noodles (any type you like, maybe except spaghetti or macaroni) until al dente and mix everything together. Cook for another couple of minutes.

Another dish I love is Spaghetti Carbonara (https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/spaghetti_alla_carbonara/) that uses the Paremesan , Pegorino or Romano cheese!

Unfortunately, Becks is not imported from Germany anymore to United States, but rather manufactured here from the United States in St. Louis, Missouri. It's FAKE!  I've never tasted a natural born german Becks beer.  :-[

That being said, we do get plenty of German brews come Oktoberfest, and we are flooded with German brews in the fall. Hofbrau and Spaten tend to be my go to during that time. I absolutely LOVE Spaten Optimator

My family does a vartationn of this, via polish cuisine. We do Kluski noodles with kielbasa (smoked polish sausage)  and sauerkraut. We absolutely love this, and it's a tradition for Easter time.

Also, regarding the (pork) tenderloin... I just did a fried pork cutlet similar to pork schnitzel the other day. This is a consistent staple in our Sunday dinner family gatherings.

PS. I absolutely indulge in Polish and German Rye breads. I actually just purchased that german swiss that was advertised earlier this week, and a premium German style braunschweiger.
