Justice is back apparently ! Here's the first track from their next album, "Safe and Sound" : (first track of the set)

Niiiiiiiiiiiice
Great track.
It took me an ambarrasing amount of time to figure out that the guys behind the decks aren't Justice (with a drastically different hairstyle, and, I thought the band has only two members?) but a different band altogether. Nevermind that it's written right there in the video title.
Not bad. More of the same of what Justice does well.
I couldn't help but be reminded of this:

Seriously enjoying this.
Word on an album? I wasn't paying attention.

When my DL gets down to 1 Sec remaining, I get a message from McAfee WebAdvisor: "We found that there might be viruses, spyware or other potentially unwanted programs in the file you are trying to download" BLOCK or ACCEPT?
Anyone else or just me?
I admit I wasn't taken by it at first listen when Busy P dropped it. Its nice but nothing we've heard before. I looked at the comments on FB out of curiosity and a lot of them were hoping for those 'crunchier' beats and be a little bit more harder again like Cross.
Cross was an era
never getting that back until year 2208 when there is nu-lectro-wave
New track "Randy"

I'm kinda diggin the sound of this new upcoming album, even more than Audio, Video, Disco.
I like it. Different but still recognizably Justice.
I dont't think it's bad, but don't think it's good either. It sounds just like every other Justice track, except for the breakdown. I was hoping for a departure from Audio Video Disco, just like AVD was something different from Cross. This sounds like leftovers from AVD.

I think "Randy" would work better without vocals.
Drums on Randy keep giving me flashbacks of Robot Rock. :o
Definitely diggin these two tracks.
Sure they don't sound like much of a departure from the last two albums, but they're still just as good as most of what Justice has made in the past. Safe and Sound is funky as hell, but I'm really enjoying Randy a lot more. I love a House track that goes all over the place. Actually, I'm not sure if I should be calling this House or Disco. ??? How about... Dhousco? I love a Dhousco track that goes all over the place.

Just watched the video for Randy. I agree 100%.
Too bad the lyrics are central to the video... :/

Best track from the new album so far ! I really love it.
They just uploaded the film clip to it 10min ago:

Agreed this is the best track so far.
Randy is my favorite :music
After giving their new album Woman a full listen (Thanks Ben_J):
Track 1 - Safe and Sound--I like it just as much as the first time I heard it. Pretty good, easy listen, could listen again.
Track 2 - Pleasure--Meh.
Track 3 - Alakazam!--This track is fucking good. I like it. Has a nice edgy intensity to it with a euphoric vibe.
Track 4 - Fire--Not bad. Forgettable... I didn't realize it was over, though I'm preoccupied with work right now.
Track 5 - Stop--I like this. Good vocals, lyrics aren't too cheesy, and I could have sex to it.
Track 6 - Chorus--This is a standout alongside Alakazam!. Very satisfying.
Track 7 - Randy--2nd or 3rd time listening to this track. I really love the middle breakdown, not so much the rest of the track.
Track 8 - Heavy Metal--Not bad. I'm not in love but I probably won't skip it in future listens.
Track 9 - Love S.O.S. - Of the "disco-esque" songs, this one was my favorite by far. I actually enjoyed the listen a lot, and it held my attention. Gentle vibe, very good track.
Track 10 - Close Call--Not bad, but an anticlimactic end to the album.
Overall impression: Pretty good. Loved a couple tracks in there, but for better and for worse, + will be their best album, looks like.

iguanapunk once had a topic about this - it was more about complete albums and not about single songs, but anyway...

Ahhhh Iggy.
I miss seeing that Street Fighter avatar before reading a sassy post.
Oh, and if we are resurrecting that conversation... Feel Good by The Internet is my recommendation.
I saw him lurking on here last week. He was probably looking out for some good ramshank score recommendations.
Alkazam would fit well on ABBA's The Visitors
That's a good album overall. I love how they go really far with each track, instead of simply doing a 3 minutes radio friendly pop track. It reminds me a bit of The Chems, with Go, Galvanize or Do It Again that have very developped album versions.
My favourite tracks on the album are Alakazam, Chorus, Heavy Metal, Randy and Safe & Sound.
Yeah. I wasn't sure at first. Alakazam!, Chorus, and Love SOS were instant favourites and thought that was it but then the rest of the album grew on me after given a few more listens. The only track I think is the odd one out actually is Randy. Its like its trying to sound like an old Justice track with the new sounds but doesn't quite glue with the rest of the well produced old disco-rock tracks.
Also Love SOS reminds me of this track (which they have played in their earlier mixes I don't mind listening too occasionally still):

The first show of the tour happened in Mexico. And it looks pretty good !
I really like this new live version of Stress
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEEE9oJBCjE
And Genesis is even better than before, with that very loud kick https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaXEmDf_-xI
I've definitely been enjoying the clips I've been seeing.
Really want to see them this tour. I would *imagine* they'll come back around to the states for more shows outside of Coachella...
Not the best sound quality, but the Pleasure/Phantom mashup in the last part of the video works really well
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGT2x_6x6-c
Alakazam/Fire/Waters of Nazareth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaiYlQPCPiI
Alakazam, Waters of Nazareth, Phantom, Chorus, Audio Video Disco
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rPRmdZ8AQg
That sure looks like a lot of fun!
If they add a tour date anywhere near I'll most likely go there!
Man, watched Justice lsst night (well, technically very early this morning at 2am) perform on the Coachella live stream and I frigging hope they put out another live album for this era like they usually do for each album... cuz I'm loving the new arrangements and mash ups of tracks, especially the Love SOS with Close Call arps. So good!

Well, their new show is amazing ! The live renditions of Chorus and Heavy Metal are pretty awesome

The live version of Randy has made me like this song a bit more. Its amazing what a bit of cowbell and drawn out synth loops can do then just goes to a straight up short looped disco banger. This was part of the encore after they played the keys to Stop before walking back down to the main stage which was a nice touch:

I do wish they would calm down on the DANCE elements and remixes on there live shows. A little overkill but do really like this live era of Justice.
I think it's awesome the way they mix things up and rip tracks apart and elements of songs are shared with others. Justice live are currently at the strongest they have ever been. Go back and listen to A Cross The Universe, then Access All Arenas, and now this set at AccorHotels. They have upped their live game with each tour. I pray this show or at least some show from this tour gets an official release like their other album tour eras. I'd pay for a proper audio recording of this show. I watched live broadcast, the energy was awesome. It's supposed to be streamable again soon.
They are playing in 2h here in cologne, but i can't go - too much to do... :(
Congrats on the Grammy. Well deserved for this album particularly. Another reason to show it was worth revisiting the Woman album. (Even if the industry every year is starting to not give a shit more and more). Still an achievement while its there:
Woman World Wide was an achievement for Justice.
I think it deserves consideration as one of the best electronic music albums of all time.
Can't say that what they were up against was on the same level though... Now winning the Grammy next year would be big, with such a lot of big names having an album in 2019
Which brings it back to whether the Grammy's is a fair and true representation of the music landscape of today. I read again how artists/industry types are selected to be judges and be nominated for an award again and seems like its set up in a very grey area.
You should watch Adam Ruins Everything about award ceremonies
The new planisphere? the lighting and camera work reminds me of the climax movie.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V41uP2T8ZFo
OK its a movie of the concert but without an audience and a revolving sculpture around them whilst performing:
https://www.billboard.com/articles/news/dance/8496974/justice-iris-a-space-opera-live-film-sxsw-2019
As much as I love Justice: this sounds really dull.
They should have also released their Accorhotels Arena performance. I have a rip of the stream and it was awesome. I'm still interested in this. Thought it was gonna be new music.
Yeah. I thought it was gonna be a cool short film with a planisphere type vibe that would be like a score to the film.
I don't understand why they never released a proper live performance. A Cross the universe is quite boring (the movie), the AAA Nimes DVD was rumoured but never released and WWW is "just" a remix album. Now they miss another chance.
Well Woman Worldwide is not just a remix album, it IS their live set, just performed and recorded in the studio. Kinda like a Peel Session. I have a great audio recording of their Accorhotels Arena performance and it's exactly like Woman Worldwide... just with an audience. I love what they did with Woman Worldwide as there are plenty of pro-recorded audio of sets from this tour (Accorhotels Arena, Glastonbury, Google I/O). The Accorhotels Arena live video is up on torrent site and is an awesome show with their stage setup and lights. I don't think they pusheda live DVD because the Accorhotels Arena show was broadcasted live online worldwide and re-posted later on to watch again.

Is there a pro-shot video of the Google I/O gig or just the audio? I only know the audio plus pro shots of Coachella, Glastonbury and Paris. Ultra Music Festival 2017 also exists but I only know the mediocre quality version on Youtube
I thought maybe they'd put out the Paris concert as the versions released as VOD are shortened and the full live stream didn't have the best quality. All in all, WWW is a great album, but I would have preferred to get a Blu-ray of a full gig...

Google I/O video was broadcasted live, I watched it, so as long as someone captured it. I'm sure it is out there on the webs. The Accorhotels Arena performance was way better in my opinion. Much more energy. The copy I have actually looks pretty good to me. This was from the repost, I believe, not a capture of the original stream, which looks much better. Watch the video above, looks good enough to me.
Anyone going to these cinema sessions? Remember when Don't Think did this? I went to that with Kwiddle and her partner.
If I didn't hear the live album yet I would go but I've heard it to death and its at the same cinema Don't Think was which was OK but not amazing in terms of sound. Unless technology has changed been upgraded since then.

I went and it was excellent! There's a long (too long ?) making of/explanatory video before the "concert" actually starts. It explains why they did it like that: they did a lot of concert filming before but it never retranscribed the energy and the ambiance in the crowd. So they tried a different approach, whithout the crowd, so the crowd would be the people seeing it in the theater (although honestly everyone sat still, so not sure if it's what they intended), and where they had control on what to show at what moment.
The sound was absolutely perfect. I saw it in a Dolby Atmos theater and it was really pleasant. The filming and "directing" are great too. You have these reflective black tiles on the ground that give a symetry to the stage and the camera plays a lot with this, and with the fact that the stage is surrounded by pitch black. There are a lot of shots that play with the idea of infinite space around the stage, or that trick your mind and you're not sure exactly what you're looking at until it zooms out or moves.
I really enjoyed it, I hope they release it in bluray although the making of suggested that this was intended for theater only.

Thanks for the review. Its crazy if they don't release it eventually to purchase. It sounds and looks cool but wondered if this visual act would get a little tiresome for an entire viewing performance but seems like you were sold which was good. Hats off to them for trying something different.

Quote from: Bosco on Jan 26, 2024, 09:42Anyone want to defend this? :
You mean the ON/AN lyrics?
Afaik the text says "One Man"
And even if it's the "Woman" it doesn't need to mean anything, same example as Beth singing the Alive Alone lyrics.
But speaking about the songs:
ON/AN feels like their Morgan Phallen collabs just x10, while Generator is like a response for all of the Cross sound moaners. Genesis meets Classic Rave sounds here 🔥
In early January I saw this:
https://twitter.com/hasitleaked/status/1743019986426245583
Although Mr Has-It-Leaked now suggests this:
https://twitter.com/hasitleaked/status/1750230400448786478
And earlier this week I saw this quote from Justice:
"We wanted this track [One Night/All Night] to sound as if a dark/techno iteration of Justice had found a sample of a disco iteration of Kevin Parker".
-Which kind of intrigued me. But now that I've heard it, I'm thinking: ugh, maybe not.
The article linked to the tweet below also says Mr Parker has been working with Dua Lipa. I haven't dared search for that track. But I think back to the Lonerism album and wonder: how did he go from that to...Dua Lipa, or indeed to this song? Not for me.
https://twitter.com/futuremusicmag/status/1750613607585345719
As for the "Salsoul Orchestra, but with gabber and classic '90s hardcore techno" quote in the above tweet, I can kinda see that in relation to Generator. Sounds like there's a sample of T99's Anasthasia in there. And a hint of that "hoover" synth sound from Human Resource's Dominator.
Generator is almost good. Kinda, sorta. It has something about it, but the structure is a bit weird maybe: from Rave to salsoul disco, and then it ends.
I hope there's better stuff on the album, otherwise I shall only be moderately interested.
I like it. And would Justice tour with Tame Impala I would pay good money to see that.
The Tame Impala one is rubbish I think - really gone off Tame Impala's sound its very samey ... but Generator is great.
Justice are headlining Field Day in London too - announced earlier today
I'm getting massive Daft Punk vibes seeing this performance. Look a spectacular light show
Unsolicited mini-review
I've now listened to the new album ~two-dozen times while working / walking / playing Pokemon Go. It's one of the rare experiences in recent memory where I feel compelled to listen through front to back. I can understand where people have mixed reception towards the vocal features. I'm enamoured with the Darksynth and glitch elements in parts. Dear Alan's Citypop vibe mixed with arpeggiated madness at the end is a great Summer lead in. My jazz junkie side feels like I need a good scotch when listening to Midnight Rende-vouz (always appreciate good sax). My standout fave is The End (and not just for my bae Thundercat on the feature). The frantic jarring start breaking through to the long triangle wave bass chords and breathy vocal before cutting to a lonely organ and vocal break before bringing it all back... I really love the track. Heck, I even like One Night/All Night.
Quote from: ThePumisher on May 22, 2024, 22:39This is still a thing?
For me it is. Not fully dead yet (though close)...
I thought tracks 8-10 were some excellent work.
"Moonlight Rendez-vous" gave me immediate "Carless Whisper" vibes (by George Michael), thus reminding me of Sexy Sax Man...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaoLU6zKaws&t=150s
Very, Vangelis' Blade Runner-esque. Maybe with some sultry lyrics this could work as a Bond title theme?
"Explorer" sounds like the exact element Anthony Gonzalez of M83 was trying to procure for his 'Digital Shades Volume: 2' project. Again, I'm reminded of distant memories of 5-7 year old me, playing my cousins copy of 'Final Fantasy' NES. I surely destroyed his saved gameplay (a rarity for cartridge based games in its time). But dang, "Explorer" reminds me of the music from that game.
Not that it was highly regarded, but Gonna have to revisit 'DSV2'. I didn't enjoy it upon first listen, but maybe I'm in a better mindset for it?

It gave me castlevania vibes. I could see the Uematsu-esque FF vibes. However, the darkness of the track made me think evil castle over evil dungeon.

you're probably right. It's been so long since I've played the NES, so some of those soundtracks all meld together via hazy memory.
