Norman Cook released his first real new track in years. It's... Ok, I guess ? Not that I had any real expectations.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZu98Vws1lY
^ Yep it's track 3 on his Beats1 radio show of 09/09/16 which I mentioned in the Big Beat thread (https://forum.thechembase.com/index.php/topic,312.msg8635.html#msg8635) (the show, not the track). Was pretty un-excited about the track at the time so I didn't bother highlighting it. I'm still un-excited about it now, alas.
His Beats 1 shows are good though.
ps: How do I make the above link go specifically to reply #28 in the Big Beat thread?
We've come a long way, baby. And where we've arrived, there's unfortunately not much.

You need to right-click on your post's date and copy its link address and then paste it into the link menu as usual. I changed it for you.

Yeah, it's nothing special. It's more of a feel good song that you would play in the background while doing something else, like cleaning your place or doing the dishes etc. It's not annoying but it's nothing to remember either. Pretty forgettable.

Sorry, that was my bad. I overlooked that you wanted #28 to be referred to. Should be working now. I think you almost had it right as well but only had "new" added to the post's link address tail for some reason.

awesome idea for packaging. I'm going to say this with every deluxe re-release I see. They needed to add the singles in individual 7 inch format.
Meh... i've got this album on cd and vinyl for a years, i'm not interested about it.
Norman, fuck you, such a lazy ass, just make a new music.
Agreed. No B-sides compilation, or demos or even any hastily scrambled together remixes.
Very lazy.
He recently did a beach show in Melbourne. There were posters around for it where I live but I wasn't the slightest interested and this new song which I'm sure he played confirmed I didn't miss much. He would be the type that would attract a horrible festival crowd you try to avoid now too. Live shows are expensive these days and you really have to make tough decisions as to who you just can't live without seeing compared to I'll go just cause its the weekend.

I don't know. Anything that's in a pizza carton that's not pizza is going to be a dissapointment, per default.
Thing is that this is just the regular album but in a nicer package. If you buy one of the special editions (UK-version (https://www.discogs.com/de/Fatboy-Slim-Youve-Come-A-Long-Way-Baby/release/145072) or japanese-version (https://www.discogs.com/de/Fatboy-Slim-Youve-Come-A-Long-Way-Baby/release/118343)) from 1998 or the 10th-anniversary edition (https://www.discogs.com/de/Fatboy-Slim-Youve-Come-A-Long-Way-Baby/release/1483505) you get plenty of bonus tracks.
I am happy for his sobriety, but like Keith Flint, it definitely gave him an edge that has been lost.
Long live Norman Cook, he is punk in the UK for life

Does anyone else sing Sunset (Bird Of Prey) by Fatboy every time they see an ad for the Harley Quinn movie? Or just me?
It's being reissued on orange vinyl for this year's Record Store Day (https://recordstoreday.co.uk/releases/rsd-2020/fatboy-slim/) with a new Horse Meat Disco remix.
I remember when it came out (20 years ago!) someone said it was a re-issue of an old track, and I assumed they meant the Jim Morrison vocal. But no, there was actually a pre-"Fatboy" version of this track (without Sunset in the title), which Norm released under the name Yum Yum Head Food in '95. As far as I can see, it only came out on a record comprised entirely of Norm's pseudonyms before he hit big as Fatboy: Southern Fried House (https://www.discogs.com/Various-Southern-Fried-House/master/342152)
Yum Yum Head Food - Bird Of Prey. Aceeeed!

I had to search through the dregs of YouTube to find a (less-than-quality) stream of Fatboy Slim's Big Beach Boutique I.

Seems like that album has largely been scrubbed from the Internetz (which makes me sad because I no longer have a copy of it).
I'm pleased to see Norman continuing to hit it behind the decks, though. Gonna catch him in SF next month. :)

Well, I think, that it's because of sample/track licences, etc.
That's what makes all of those compilations, etc really rare nowadays :/

You're absolutely correct, sadly.
QuoteAs part of 6 Music Goes Back the the 90's we're putting a spin on Steve Lamacq's 6 Music Album Club, by asking artists to mix up a seminal record of theirs from that time. Our guests can be as creative as they like with their own work - free to change up the order, tempos and structure of the album. It's a new piece of work made from their own classic album.
Today, Fatboy Slim has mixed up his 1998 classic album 'You've Come a Long Way, Baby', which celebrates it's 25th anniversary this year. Hitting number one in the UK Albums Chart, the album generated four singles: "The Rockafeller Skank", "Gangster Tripping", "Praise You", and "Right Here, Right Now" - becoming a seminal dance music record of it's time.

I've been meaning to post this but you beat me to it. Essential listening for hardcore Fatboy fans, complete with a Greta Thunberg edit of Right Here Right Now.
Fatboy chucks in a couple of Rolling Stones tracks too. One of which he officially remixed back in 2003. (https://www.discogs.com/master/54274-The-Rolling-Stones-Sympathy-For-The-Devil-Remix) I sometimes wonder if that's where the Chems got the parts from for the SFTD bits in the live version of TPPR. Maybe they just picked up the phone and went: NORM!
There are also reworked versions of a couple of other albums that may interest Chems fans:
Coldcut (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001gmfn)
Hot Chip (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001h27x)
10/10 will listen again.

You think? I don't know if that's so easy. And on top of this, we all know how strict the Stones (or the Management) are when using samples from their music => Bitter Sweet Symphony anyone? (https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-48380600)

Yeah they are strict but that hasn't stopped the Chems using bits of "Sympathy" in the live Reel.
If you were a professonal remixer/producer like Fatboy, would you quietly keep the parts sent to you by the artists you remixed or would you be a good boy and delete them?
I noticed Skream put a picture on Instagram a while ago of the DVDr of the parts he was sent for La Roux's In For The Kill. So he still has those. But yes, I know the Stones are a bit different...

This guy was doing a live stream, reconstructing 'Praise You' and who should show up in the chat, but Norman himself! Answering questions about the production, sampling, the famous 'Fatboy Slim cymbal' (which
Spoiler
he apparently doesn't remember the source of
), along with just generally being a cool supportive guy!

Apparently Norm is going to do a VR sort of live stream "rave" gig on Facebook's engagexr platform (whatever that is?) on March 30th. So, if you've got the means, check it out.

Hey kids! Before Norman Cook was Fatboy Slim, he was in a proper band. No, not Freak Power but a proper jangly guitar band with drums and guitars and bass. They released a couple of albums and had some top ten hits in their home territory of the UK, including a No.1 hit with Caravan Of Love.
Anyway Happy Hour was their first proper hit, and you can see a very young Norman in the video:
The Housemartins - Happy Hour
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVXmqEY72EA
Yesterday at Glastonbury, former Housemartins (and Beautiful South) lead singer Paul Heaton invited Norm on stage to do Happy Hour with him. And Norm hasn't forgotten how to play his indie bass.

In other news, Fatboy has a new single out (2 weeks old). The track's not bad at all - certainly a good one compared to most of his post- "Gutter & The Stars" material. I'm not sure about this video though. I mean, it's engaging but I'm not sure about the ethics of this. Spot the familiar faces.
