THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS...HARD IN THE ECHOES! A NIGHT IN PAMONA!

The weather was cool when I got to the venue. It just hit 7pm, and I'm already started to get fired up finally for the show. Please understand that in my previous shows I been too,  I've been pretty amped up to the point where I can't contain myself or my fanboy mannerisms.

But this year was different. I got older, wiser, but much more calm among the mist of excitement. My attitude toward this show was much different than the previous shows.  I got a text from Pooter, and met him and Androidgeoff at Erol Alkans set! Then we left and met up with Whirls, Biff, Stash, and some of Pooters friends as well. Now my excitement has peaked. Seeing the rest of the gang  brought me comfort and good fellowship. Happy to see all them again

We get to the stage about 30 minutes early, and park near a railing located in the front of the soundbooth. We were now front and center for a great spot. There was no pushing whasoever. Then out of nowhere, KNE and friends met up with us. So we exchanged pleasantries and talked about the last show and the dont think movie. Glad KNE made it here for 2 in a row! Lights go out, and TMK fades in, and me and androifgeoff looked at each and said 'Finally'!

Then hear comes Chemical Tom and 'Mad Scientist' Adam. The dark croaks start echoing and the lasers come down. The crowd is ready!

HBHG was was a good choice to start the show,

Then EML Ritual just totally changes the pace completely. This is not a 'Dont Think' type show as before. With its dark tone, and erraticness, EML cloaked the show, and looking way different than my last 2 shows. I was going nuts. I was in full swing as my heart was syncing to every dark pulse that blasted from the set. HBHG was the warmup, EML was a self contained show in one track.

Do It again brought everybody back to earth for awhile, but it really transitioned very well in to GO! The crowd started going crazy as the skaters on screen were spinning as the sounds were peaking and peaking and peaking. Then BAM! I totally lost my shit right there! Hopping and jumping like hot coals in my pants. Damn....2 new songs in 10 minutes already? Go is paired perfectly with its visual than any other pairing I've heard. The blues were scattered from top to bottom form the visuals. Breathtaking indeed!

Then Swoon came on, and so far, there is already a prismatic setlist already. The sounds of the Chems were shifting everywhere as if the forumites were in a journey to...to...I don't know!  :D Maybe to some distant galaxies where EDM never existed in the first place perhaps. Swoon didn't change that much when I heard it the last time. Nevertheless, I admired the pretty graphics.

My fave track comes on! SG in its ancient glory of past shows, has come to embrace my little ears. Happy Happy Joy Joy! Very bright lines while lightly warming the crowd. Glows or red and yellow reminded of the tour in 07,but SG, to me, is the accumulation of joy and peace that is hidden in its sound.

Then the SG keys go up into space, and we hear a small silence, or is it some space signal? It grows bigger and louder. Then when SIFSD dropped, I got out of control. The show was picking up faster and I was getting sweatier. SIFSD is a live battle weapon if you ask me. i wanted this track to go longer now since I finally heard it.

Then here comes the classic Chemical Beats for some banging nostalgia. Nice blend coming from a new track to an oldie but goodie. As usual, I kept banging on!

I then asked Geoff ' whats next?'

EBW 7 was stripped down with the 'setting sun' vocal. Sounds so different in a live setting but going into Setting Sun/Out of control/IDM was imo at the time, to much overload to cram into a set, but It actually surpassed my expectations and executed the tracks where it didn't seem thrown in lazy. Solid programming right there. This works, and i loved it as much when I heard it at the Hollywood Bowl show.

Saturate,  comes in and finishes with those bangin' drums, and then Elektrobank comes in for a visit like an old friend saying 'where have you been all this time'. The vocals start getting chirpy while the beats are now banging in my head. At this point,  I love how the Chems chose this for the tour with a new visual as well. Not as spooky as Acid clown but close. The vastness of the LED screens give Adam a beautiful visual canvas to work with

I'll See You There! Words cant describe it. It breaks up the mold of all things and goes into full rock foray. Just so much drum bashing and screeches of distortion by Tom were just overkill as the Chems kept pouring it on and on. For some reason, Austin Powers pops in my head when this played.

Then Believe just comes up and shatters the place and sends the crowd back to nothingness! There is a sort of a recovery from the crowd from what we seen so far. Me and the rest of the forumites were giving hi-fives and hugs to each other because of all the glint we collected so far during the show. So, a well timed TSU comes crawling to save us, and bring us back one more time for the Chems to finally destroy us.

This show is glorious! But now the crowd is going bonkers because EV is now taking the kids to a Chems rave. My lord help me if I'm gonna survive this one. But too late, because we all know whats coming up next.....ROBOTS!

You can hear me say  "OH....FUCK!!!!" on 0:21 on that vid because that echo fx landed right on 'acid test' and my god IT WAS HEAVENLY! IT WAS GOD LIKE! Under The Influence was the biggest improvement of all the tracks that have been played before! I can hear this all day if I wanted too. Just Massive!

Finally we have the last 3 tracks of the night...Galvanize , Music Response, and  Block Rockin Beats. I'd say it was a great mix up especially when the 'music response' vocals kicked out. Whoa! This gave me goosebumps everywhere. Then Tom is ready to seal the deal with the octave kitten (that thing is still working? :)) I kind of gotten to the point when BRB is played, I feel like I have a few minutes left to geek out with the Chems because after this show, I probably wont see them for another few years. But the end of the show is always the beginning of something else brewing in the creative minds of T and E and A!

After the show ended, I felt so filled with completeness and contentment of a complete and almost flawless show. I then compared it to all my others shows I been too. The difference maker was this:

The Setlist
Awesome and respectful crowd
Visuals were badass
Audio...no complaints!
Tom and Adams energy and stage presence
Weather

and more importantly...the forum members I met!

So, in summary, a big improvement over the 2011 show and made up in every way. I'm glad that the Bros came back here, and I hope they made some major coin that night. With Adam on the tour, and with Ed coming back soon, this show will get bigger and better as it progresses.

Thanx to all who came out to the show, whether close or far. Biff, Pooter, KNE, Stash, Whirls...i love you guys for sharing my love of the chems with you guys for so long. You guys made it easier to be myself when discussing everything related to the Bros.  You are ALWAYS diehard fans in my book, and i wish you all the best after the show and wherever life takes you. Thank you for accepting me into your chemical family.

To AndroidGeoff. It was a pleasure to finally meet you in person. This is the first of many shows we will go on, and definitely not the last.  Cool of you to share your stories and all things chemically related as well. it was an honor dancing screaming and yelling next to you during the show. Thank you and enjoy your stay in L.A.

Lastly, THANK YOU TOM, ED , AND ADAM for all that you've done in the last 15 plus years on the road! so greatful and humbled that you came to California again. Love you guys!

This is up there. Like, Star Guitar up there.

Two days and you're beating me to my live review of a show that happened a month and a half ago ;D I need to get off my lazy ass.

Can't wait to read this!
Never for money, always for love.

Holy moly, thank you for the immersive review! It felt so vivid!

It goes without saying that I don't approve of you having had so much fun and I didn't!

No, seriously, where's the quadruple like button?

Great great great review, inchem!! You summed up a lot of my thoughts on this show. I had such a fantastic time with all of you guys!!  :music Even though I was glinting pretty hard pre-show (as I usually do), this time around I was relatively calm and more at ease as well. But the closer we got to show time and watching the Weeknd waiting for that set to be finished so we could assume our spots for the Chems,I started getting real giddy like a kid again. Amazing show, amazing crowd, enjoyed amongst amazing friends. <3
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

Appreciate you putting this lengthy review together, Inchemwetrust. Happy you had a fabulous experience.  Posts like these are so fun to return to a year or two down the line. Perfectly encapsulated nostalgia.

What an awesome review inchem! Very detailed as always! From Having shit for reception since getting there at 3pm till less than 5 minutes to show start and still manage to share the experience in its entirety with the Chem crew is way beyond crazy. A lot of energy radiated from you , as you sang along to TKN and your excitement as music/response blew out the speakers.  It all added to that  intense euphoria that I experience with every Chems show. I didn't get a chance to say good bye to most of you, but I know that Tom Ed and Adam won't be saying 'that's the end of that ' anytime  soon! We got more 10/10 shows ahead of us in the future , so I'll see you there.  :music

OMG, I am almost in tears just reading your review Inchem. The Chems have turned me into an emotional mess, even if it's reading someone else's experiences.

I will never forget sharing the experience with you. I am so glad that there are more than two Chemical Brothers (and Sisters!). Making the trip out from Chicago was worth all of the hassle, with the cancelled plane in Vegas, to the heat exhaustion that I managed to catch and hydrate from. Every aspect of Saturday was perfect and I would not have changed a thing. We will definitely be seeing more chems shows in the future, man!
i love chem bros omg!!!!!!!!!!!!

And it's right there, where you can see why The Chems are specialist exploring the depths of your precious emotions and turn them into wild realities, true and meaningful moments. Great review inchem. Your tale it's a wonderful journey through the musical world of The Brothers.

Brother, thank you for sharing. Fucking fantastic to have this kind of energy on the forum again.

Tremendous review inchem, if I didn't want to chew my fingers off after 5 mins of typing on this little key pad I would do the same😂
I seem to have lost all my log in details since the last time I was on here, I mean it was fucking years ago since I was last on any way I think. Nice to see  some names that I remember though. Inchem, you'll know me from being face book buddies (Matt winstanley)
So anyway, I held out from watching the Chems live show because I was due to be smashed to bits by them last Saturday at creamfields and I didn't want to spoil it. But now I'm looking for the Glastonbury set so I can abuse it totally and watch it everyday for the next 8 years solid. Any one know where I can get the full video with decent audio???? Please????
Many thanks in advance
Matt xxx

Oh shit you probably shouldn't have done that. That is a bootleg DVD. You're basically paying a guy $20 to burn the broadcast to a DVD for you.

Well all I can say is.... Anybody who hasn't seen this show has to make it a serious priority. I mean, if you have to fly to another country to see it, get on sky scanner now. I'm not joking. This is the best Chemics set ive ever seen. in my opinion this is the set they've put the most work into. The way they completely bent the fuck out of everything, the transitions, and now that they've got an impossible amount of material to fit in, I'm sure at one point they had about 4 different Chemics tracks mashed into one. The section with setting sun and under the influence being 2 of my favourites. I'm glad some very helpful people on here have shown me where I can find the recording because, although I'm quite familiar with their visuals, I did miss out on some of the new stuff. I was right at the front and During "I'll see you there" I was bent double with my head between my knees, in a half squat position with my hands on my head while still managing to bounce up and down, I did at some point look up at the screen, only to see a blue chinese dude's cum face.
There were 2 guys who stumbled upon us before it started only to ask me, "so who's on next??"
I was like " dudes, it's a dance act called the "carmicle brothers", made up of Geoff morillo and Bernard Halliwell". Fortunately for them they stumbled across the 2 biggest Chemics psycho's in the crowd. They didn't know what the fuck was going on and they fucking pogoed up and down for 1.5 hours with us 😂😂

Thanks! That's what I meant. Everybody has a different story and it's fecking great to read them! I'm glad you could convince these Who's-next folks to stay and enjoy the show with you. I'm almost sure they haven't regretted it.

Matt!!! Whats up! Welcome back!

Forget the 20 bucks. I sent you text on FB ! It should be sufficient enough for you!

Didn't know you went to Creamfields. Im reading your post right now, but glad you made it out to see them.

Touring has been great from what i read so far here on the forums. I expect more touring even after 2015 (AUS, MEX, etc)

I'm on the same boat with you, and that is the best show I've seen from them!
