Surprised they are doing those shows so close to Coachella given radius clauses - i guess its sold out though!

The shows are put on by Goldenvoice, who organize Coachella. It's apart of Goldenvoice Presents April which is a series of shows from artists in the Coachella lineup. Chems were part of it in 2023 when they played at the Santa Barbara Bowl.

I feel like Santa Barbara is just outside the radius FWIW. (Except for perhaps headliners, who have a much bigger radius.) I recall festival acts playing shows in Santa Barbara and even San Diego long before Coachella would ever sell out.

But, yes, once Coachella started to sell out regularly Goldenvoice relaxed a bit and started to host some of the festival acts in a series of local shows. Part of it must be financially motivated, but there is also an argument that big festivals with radius clauses take work away from smaller local venues, and this is a way to try and counter that. Lollapalooza does something similar in Chicago.
