Ha! Jungle is such a weird band to me. I like the albums. I get the videos are appealing with emphasis on choreography.  However, the live show was disappointing.

When seeing them here in Vancouver last year, half the crowd was dance heads reaching the middle ages (like myself) while the rest were just reaching their 20s. The band felt like a Top of the Pops act where the instruments were not plugged in. The visuals felt like 3D renders from late 2000s with no hint of the choreography from the videos. The decent songs had the dance heads going off while the young ones gossiped to their friends, ignored the show, and continually took selfies (within 10 feet of the stage). The kids only interacted on poppier tracks by filming half the song and doing the horrible no rhythm / act "sexy" dance with their friends in a circle (oblivious they are hitting everyone around them). Meanwhile the mid agers waited for an interesting track.

Mind you...take this with a grain of salt as this might just be my stance on Vancouver crowds... I really haven't been impressed since moving here.
Wow! Didn't know they weren't getting such a reception demographic wise. Their first 2 releases are too 'chill-on-a-sofa' for me. On 'Volcano', I hear 70's soulful vocal elemenets ,including alot more stand out tracks that even out the album. Lydia Kitto is uniquely voiced, ( I just learned that she was recently added to the band.)

Hopefully the band can pick up some royalty free visuals that aren't dated, but will be on the lookout for them in the future.

This is up there. Like, Star Guitar up there.

Isn't it exciting when you discover a new artist? Pete Tong plays his fair share of dross, but every now and then he introduces me to something I didn't know I was looking for.
In this case he gave us Mila Journée. She's from  São Paulo, and Tong gave her the final 30 minutes of his Friday night show to showcase a Hot Mix of her productions. You can listen here: BBC, or here: 1001 Tracklists, or here: Hear This At.
BTW does anyone know if it's easy to embed this Soundcloud rival on the forum? If not, don't worry. In the case of the 2nd and 3rd links, you need to jump to the final half hour of the show.

A couple of tracks from that mix:

Mila Journée - Insight
Anyone get EBW9 vibes from this (from 3 mins onwards), or just me?

Mila Journée - No Control
This one reminds me a bit of LFO's Freak circa 2:10

Robert Palmer - Johnny & Mary

Just learning now that Bryan Ferry's version of this song featured on Todd Terje's album 'It's Album Time' was a cover. Seems so obvious considering the tone of the song to the rest of the album...

Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross - Compress/Repress

I used to hear Palmer's original version on the radio as a kid, especially once Addicted To Love became a huge hit and the radio decided to play more of his stuff in general.
I wasn't so familiar with the Todd Terje/Bryan Ferry cover version, but listening to Ferry's vocals, I'm a bit shocked. Bryan Ferry (especially circa Slave To Love) was considered to be one of the smoothest singers in pop/rock. But I guess age takes its toll, and his voice isn't what it used to be. Ain't life a bitch.

Ferry's band, Roxy Music were of course sampled (interpolation) by The Chems on Pioneer Skies (-"Pyjamarama").

the recent Johnny Marr / James co headline tour announcement got me to listen to James' new album, which is marvelous.

Ever listen to a tune and then afterwards it distorts in your head so much that it turns into some other old tune in your memory banks? One that you can't even name? I had that today.

Anyway I eventually figured out what the old tune was.  But I must admit, listening to both, they really don't sound alike at all (it was the deep piano in the LCD track that somehow reminded me of the groove at 1:58 in the Gypsy track). If I don't post the Gypsy track, I'll forget it again.

LCD Soundsystem - Oh Baby (lovefingers remix), 2018

Gypsy - I Trance You (Mix 1), 1992
IT'S MORNING TIME!

Been listening to a number of Jaap Ligthart edits lately. Think the appeal to me comes from the WhoMadeWho / Sasha progressive house side.

That would have blown my mind. If I had a mind.
"We going up!" and then pogo for the stars
"why yes, yes you are crazy and I love you for it!" Whirly

I previously posted a track by Super Flu here back in 2021. Now they've teamed up with Sasha (yes the real one) to release this brand new track. There's also a Sasha Daydream Mix on YT etc but I prefer the original. Incidentally this track doesn't really do it for me on my tinny laptop speakers, but on headphones or 'proper' speakers, it definitely does.

Sasha & Super Flu - Astra

Speaking of Sasha, the Classic Essential Mix people have dug out a 2004 Sasha & Digweed Renaissance mix which I've been enjoying on the BBC Sounds app. Hard to believe these tracks are all at least 20 years old, or maybe I just don't want to.
Here's one of the tracks in the mix that I bought at the time - I think on 12" as  well as CD single.

Spektrum - Kinda New (Tiefschwarz Dub)

And here's the full 2 hour set on YouTube, if you're geo-blocked.

A couple of tracks from Mumbai Science. The first one came out in 2011 and makes me want to listen to Theme For Velodrome (2012). A similar energy perhaps.

Mumbai Science - Lotus (2011)

Mumbai Science - Jasmine (2017)

And if you liked those two, I put a couple more under the spoiler.
