There are  even two more dudes trying to sell Goodbye, and Live Again Extended respectively.  :L

Does this deserve its own thread?
Long running quiz show Mastermind was on BBC2 tonight, about an hour ago. If you can access BBC iPlayer, you can watch it here.
Ed has a brief clip of himself on Insta stories answering a couple of questions whilst watching it on TV.
That's because one of the contestants chose the Chemical Brothers as his specialist subject.
I think it's harder when you're sat in "the chair" rather than watching at home. But this guy did pretty well. He's Jake Denny in the check shirt and his Chems section is at 6:46.

The questions:
Spoiler
1) T&E met at Uni in which Engliash city?
2) T&E DJ'd under the names The Dust Brothers and the 237...what?
3) DYOH featured singles Setting Sun & BRB, and what other track, which reaached No 17 in the charts?
4) Which US hip hop singer co-wrote and performs the vox on Salmon Dance?
5) Galvanize is based on a sample of Goul El Hak El Mout Kaina by which Moroccan singer?
6) The 2012 concert film, Don't Think was recorded at what music festival in Japan?
7) What's the title of the specially commissioned piece of music that was the soundtrack for some of the cycling events at the London 2012 Olympics?
8] The track No Geography features a sample of which American poet reading his poem, "Geography"?
9) The video for OOC ...is revealed to be an advertisement for what fictional soft drink?
10) BRB takes its title from a line from which song by rapper Schoolly D?
11) When the Chems performed at Glastonbury in 2019, they dedicated their set to which musician?
12) Which Oscar winning film maker directed the video for Star Guitar?

He got No 5, 8 and 9 wrong and he passed on 11. So Jake got 8 out of 12.

Watching it in real time, I got...
Spoiler
No 3 wrong (mind went blank)
No 5 wrong. I shouted "just tell the truth" as I thought quiz master Clive was going to ask what the English translation of the track is. I don't think I would have named the singer without a google!
And I also passed on No 11 (then went "D'oh!" when Clive gave the answer).
So 9 out of 12 for me.

Incidentally regarding the cola, I don't know if this is worldwide or just Europe, but has anyone noticed the name of Aldi's own brand cola?
Aldi also used to have Disco Biscuits - which in the UK and Ireland is slang for Ecstasy pills. Eventually they changed the name, when head office in Germany were put striaght.
IT'S MORNING TIME!

I got 8

I love the sound of disco biscuits, I never noticed them before. Shame, I was always partial to a cheeky half
In nature there are neither rewards nor punishment- there are consequences

I would've been up there being awkward and laughing nervously if I were in that chair  :D

Number 5 was a tough one!

I was today years old learning about these Aldi Disco Biscuits, hahaha! I can't believe that was a thing LOL
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

Couldn't answer 5, 8 & 10.

And to #3: That album has 4 singles - otherwise the question should have been about the numbers of music videos

Or just UK. In Germany we got two different Aldi - Aldi Nord/North and Aldi Süd/South => CLICK

Both have the same name and design for their own brand of Cola which is River Cola. Aldi South and Aldi North
They also both sell Coca Cola and assuming to design of the own brand cola i would say this is also made by the Coca Cola Company

unfuck the world please

I only got 7, how many do I need to qualify as a Chemical Nerd?

Shit where do I hand in my license

In Austria they're called "Hofer". And I can confirm that many, many products they sell under their own labels are identical or at least manufacured at the same suppliers as many "big brand" products (I'm not sure if that's the case with cola, though). Somebody in my close family works as a store manager and of course knows where their inventory comes from. They even rarely get delivered the wrong products (meaning they have the wrong label).

Pretty sure Weetabix famously makes all the 'off brand' wheat biscuits as well.

An article recently written by one of Australia's leading music journalists, Cyclone in TheMusic with Ed, just before he flew out to Japan.

Highlights/spoilers:

- 'Exit Planet Dust' 30th anniversary rumours?
- a "big" break in-between albums - was FTBF the final one?
- Tom working (on a score?) with Joe Wright again?

Enjoy

Didn't know that "This Is Not A Game" was a Tom only track. Do we need to reclassify it?
That would have blown my mind. If I had a mind.
"We going up!" and then pogo for the stars
"why yes, yes you are crazy and I love you for it!" Whirly

Thanks a lot! Interesting takes from Ed. Seems like Tom's more enthusiastic about continuing making music like he made clear in one of his recent interviews. But I thought something like this might come up, now that EddyBOYsimons has become DADDyboysimons.

May this one not be their last as I hoped they'd leaving with a good one.

Ha, so we need to do that for Taste of Honey too? Wouldn't be surprised if there were more. Especially their Boize Noize remix of XTC. Always felt more Rowlands than Chemical to me.

Csar 1) It is a good one! (OK it's not in my top 3 Chems albums, but it's decent. Do we need to do a new album ranking thread?). You never did make it clear how much - if any - of the current album you like. Come on, spill the beans!
2) Why would it be their last? The Studio is at Tom's house - he's spent a fortune on that shit! He ain't gonna stop. It's clear at this point that he's the 'lead' Brother; he'll keep making music and releasing it under the Chems name. I'm sure of it (good health permitting).

Re-classify? Nah, if Tom is already the 'lead' Brother, there's no need to re-classify anything.

There was a discussion on the BROTHERHOOD!! FB page recently that seems to have been deleted now (If it's still there, someone please let me know!).
Someone mentioned the recent book and how it seems quite Tom-centric (or words to that effect). They also mentioned a 2019-ish thread on Gearspace about the Chems. The moderator is a guy called Psycho Monkey. His bio tells us he is this guy. The fact that he's a long time moderator on Gearspace suggests to me that he isn't a troll. But make up your own mind. During his time up to about 2008 as in house engineer at Miloco, he formed some opinions on the music making by T&E.

You can read his comments peppered throughout that thread yourself, and make up your own mind. I'm not inclined to type out direct quotes, as I don't feel like being a controversy-monger today! I'm not in the mood for a 'fight', I'm just sharing what's written on another forum...
IT'S MORNING TIME!

I saw that post on Facebook and skimmed through the Gearhead thread, which started with the question whether or how much of their shows are live and deteriorated to a question of what part they each play in creating and writing their music (Those are two completely separate questions, btw).

Regarding their live shows, it's not the case that each note requires a button to be pushed, but I've been to subsequent shows and there are variations all over the place. So unless all those variations are also pre-programmed, something they do on stage affects how the music sounds live.

Let's give this guy at Gearspace the benefit of the doubt and take his word that he spent some time in the studio with the Chems, where he didn't observe Ed doing anything. My take is that it is a pretty bold statement to go from this to claiming that Ed isn't involved at all. I'd think that creating their music is a creative process that will involve much more than sitting in the studio and knowing where each patch cable goes to. I think it's also obvious that Tom is more the tech and studio guy, but to claim that Ed has been some sort of freeloader in their long career is far-fetched.

Regarding the interview, that there will be "a bit of a gap" after an album and more than two years of touring comes hardly as a surprise. I think what Ed is saying here is that they won't churn out something just because they make money from it.

I don't wanna hear things like "the last album" or "a big break" or "miguel". Off with all of your heads two times!
unfuck the world please

while there inevitably will be a last album, I really hope it isn't planned

Tough, but fair. I forever regret bringing up the topic that refers to the heathen name. I shall expect the guillotine at dawn.
That would have blown my mind. If I had a mind.

Well it's not exactly the Guinness surfer/horses advert with Leftfield's Phat Planet - but then, what is? And if you don't know that advert, hit the spoiler.
Spoiler

Fun fact: This ad was diirected by Jonathan Glazer who won an Oscar for The Zone Of Interest a few weeks ago and gave an interesting and/or controversial acceptance speech.

...But it is a two minute commercial from a major beverage company using the Chems as their soundtrack.
Non-football-(soccer)-fans may like to know that the 'stars' are:
Vinicius Jr (Real Madrid & Brazil)
Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur & South Korea)
Jack Grealish (Manchester City & England)
and Vinnie Jones (ex-Wimbledon FC and and some dodgy Hollywood movies)
