Since we are still discussing SNL, how about this loose affiliation...

This skit is almost certainly based off the band name Lothar and the Hand People, which if you need to be reminded, is the band who The Chemical Brothers sampled on the track "It Doesn't Matter". According to google, Mike Myers wrote the sketch. The man better known as Austin Powers most certainly had a LatHP record in his collection!

EDIT: Upon further review, it apparently was based off a childhood character he made for Dungeons and Dragons. Although some other websites suggest a connection to the band...
